25.01.2022 It's #internationalmensday and, like Ruth McGowan, we want to acknowledge all the men working alongside us to achieve #genderequality. We'll only get there if we're doing it together.

24.01.2022 Amazing (via Netflix UK + The Female Lead)

23.01.2022 Don't get mad, get elected. (From this weekend's Guardian piece: https://tinyurl.com/yykh9s85 )

23.01.2022 "There has been a tipping point," says Women for Election Australia CEO Licia Heath in today's Guardian Australia. "Women mobilise when they realise no one is coming to save them. And women are thinking, ‘I’ll just have to bloody well do it.’

22.01.2022 South Australia's Parliament has the worst female representation in the country and won't reach gender parity until 2050 at the current rate, according to a recent report from the Electoral Commission of SA: http://ow.ly/wJjC50BF3TT

22.01.2022 Susan Ryan, a trailblazing figure for women in Australian politics, has died at age 77. She was first female minister from the Labor Party; the first woman to hold the portfolio relating to women's affairs; and pivotal in enshrining the Sex Discrimination Act, the Equal Employment Opportunity Act, and the Affirmative Action Act. I felt from the youngest possible age that it was unfair, intolerable really, that females were regarded as second-class citizens, she told The Gu...ardian in 2017. That was going to be the big thing that I wanted to change. Vale. http://ow.ly/SPEI50BCjVP

21.01.2022 We need more women making more decisions in higher places and more First Nations voices at the table making decisions, said Greens Senator Lidia Thorpe at our In Conversation yesterday. We'll share the full recording tonight, but here are Women's Agenda's highlights in the meantime.

19.01.2022 Analysis of 194 countries during the first months of Covid-19 revealed that countries with female leaders generally had lower infection and fatality rates. So what can we learn from these leaders? https://ideas.ted.com/6-things-we-can-learn-from-how-women/

17.01.2022 "Women achieved an incredible high at the 2020 ACT Election - a majority of MLAs elected were women." Representatives from ACT Labor, Liberals and Greens will gather for a University of Canberra Zoom panel to discuss the historic outcome and consider how this result might be replicated federally and in other states and territories.

16.01.2022 We’re pleased to announce October’s In Conversation with Nicolle Flint Member for Boothby . In 2016 Nicolle became the first woman to represent the seat of Boothby since it was established in 1903. She has been outspoken about the sexist and intimidating behaviour she faced during her 2019 re-election campaign, and recently attracted national and international attention for wearing a garbage bag in response to criticisms about her appearance. There are limited places, so reg...ister now to hear more about Nicolle's journey into politics, including how her career as a newspaper columnist for Fairfax and NewsCorp shaped her view of the Australian political landscape. https://events.humanitix.com/women-for-election-in-conversa #wfea #auspol #NicolleFlint #womeningovernment

14.01.2022 Don’t read the comments, Greens Senator Lidia Thorpe told aspiring female politicians at yesterday's In Conversation. Have strong women surrounding you: someone you can trust and have a good yarn with. Surround yourself with old people and learn from them: my elders instilled within me wise stories. Watch the full In Conversation with Kat Henaway here: https://wfea.org.au/women-for-election-in-conversation-wit/

14.01.2022 New Zealand’s three-term former Prime Minister Helen Clark joined Michelle Grattan on The Conversation podcast recently. Clark noted the civility that has defined the contest between Jacinda Ardern and Judith Collins in the lead up to NZ’s October 17 election. They didn’t descend into pettiness of the kind that you can see in such debates. So I think the women leaders feel a real onus not to get down into the gutter.

14.01.2022 "When women get organised, watch out. We’re at a tipping point where women say it’s our time. We’re inspired by the international leaders in this space, we’re inspired by Kamala Harris and we’re inspired by Jacinda Ardern." - Ruth McGowan in today's Guardian Australia

12.01.2022 "I was was carried away by her power and potential." Julia Gillard's intro to this ARIA 2020 tribute to Helen Reddy and her undiminished feminist anthem

11.01.2022 Compare and contrast. "This was a debate with some policy substance. Both women supported New Zealand moving from three to four-year terms, both indicated support for free sanitary products for girls in schools and both backed gender neutral toilets." http://ow.ly/noXy50BG7D3

11.01.2022 Lidia Thorpe was sworn into the Senate this afternoon in a historic day of firsts. She is the first Aboriginal Senator for Victoria and the first federal Aboriginal representative for The Greens. If it wasn’t official before, it most certainly is now. I’m so proud to be the first Aboriginal Victorian Senator and working alongside my Greens colleagues. Thank you so much for your well wishes Now it’s time to get started. Congratulations Lidia. @lidiathorpegunnaigunditj #representationmatters

07.01.2022 "Deliberate policies from both sides of politics have resulted in huge numbers of older women and those with young children relying on unemployment benefits with a new report revealing JobSeeker has become an early age pension for many Australians." http://ow.ly/ruec50BKh38

06.01.2022 "The welfare of women was central to her. She reminded her colleagues often that 83 per cent of the payments made through her department were made to women." Dame Margaret's vision of welfare as an enabler of independence had a transformative impact on the lives of women. She prioritised outcomes for women throughout her tenure within the Fraser Government as both Minister for Social Security and Minister for Finance. We're beyond grateful for her trailblazing contribution. #inspire
