25.01.2022 With a sheer love of the sport and the backing of the Australian Racing Drivers' Club our own #WomenInAutomotive member, Rachelle Stirling, has founded Race Chix Motorsport and launched an all-female racing school at the Sydney Motorsports Park. The program is the first of its kind in Australia and is dedicated to training women in #motorsports aged 16 and over, to give them the same opportunities as men. Formula One, Supercars and even go-karting are heavily male-dominated industries from the driver's seats to the pits, yet motorsport is one sport where men and women can compete alongside each other with no age or gender barriers. 24.01.2022 Today, Apple announced CarKey, part of the newest features to be released with the iOS14 Update. The CarKey works with near-field communication (NFC) and will allow you to unlock the boot, the car, and turn over the engine directly from your phone. You'll also be able to send and revoke invitations to contacts so they can access your car with their phones. The first car supported will be the new 2021 BMW Group 5 Series, and Apple says they're working on an industry-wide stand...ard that would use its new U1 ultra wideband chip. What do you think? Incredible step forward in technology? Let us know!
24.01.2022 Our brain automatically tells us that we are safe with people who look, think, and act similar to us. That's a survival trick. This was useful hundreds of years ago, but actively disadvantages us today. Overcoming unconscious bias is the single most essential step for businesses and individuals that want to succeed. Want to learn more about how to overcome an unconscious bias that you are projecting, or having projected onto you, in the automotive industry? Our guidebook ...'How to Attract, Recruit, and Retain Women in the Australian Automotive Industry' is available for free download now at: https://www.womeninautomotive.com.au/guidebook See more

23.01.2022 In our guidebook, one dealership put themselves under the lens to test the theory that hiring women leads to higher turnover and expenses. When faced with poor hiring outcomes, the dealership utilised a recruitment tool to conduct blind screening to remove candidate demographics such as gender, age, and race. The results?... In just eight months they reduced turnover by 23%, with the savings in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Want to learn more about the benefits of supporting women in automotive? 23.01.2022 "When I first started selling #cars it was very rare to find another #woman in the role, which does make you feel isolated. I’d get a number of non-subtle comments along the lines of she doesn’t know what she’s doing, or customers instantly asking for a man to help them instead. Because of this, I always teach the women I work with to become overeducated in their roles. #Knowledge certainly becomes a power in that kind of a situation." This month we are proud to feature WinA member, Linzi Eccles, and her inspiring journey form part-time Salesperson to Assistant New Car Manager at Frankston Toyota . 17.01.2022 "There is no better way to learn, in my opinion, than to continuously seek feedback from people that have helped you to become who you are currently, both personally and professionally. In terms of resources outside of mentors, the growth I’ve seen of Women in Automotive - WinA has been amazing, what it has become now is inspiring. I told my colleagues about my nomination for WinA’s member of the month and they were all over it, everyone had either heard of or interacted wit...h WinA and were so excited for me. It’s become a real industry leader." Monique Cotton's journey from Trainee Sales Consultant at a Volkswagen dealership to current Regional Manager for VIC, TAS, and SA in Gumtree Australia 's Motors team is certainly one to inspire, but just like the majority of women working in automotive, it hasn't been without it's challenges. That's why we are proud to feature Monique as our September WinA Member of the Month! Read more on Monique's automotive journey at: https://www.womeninautomotive.com.au/monique-cotton-wina-me
17.01.2022 What draws you to #WomenInAutomotive ? Are you motivated by the fact that women currently only make up 22% of the Australian automotive workforce? 16.01.2022 "As I moved into #leadership positions, I would regularly be the only woman, or one of very few, in the room. Regardless of my attitude and mindset, it was very intimidating. I was made to feel like I was there in place of someone else, rather than in my own capacity and capability. In addition to that, my cultural background which I am proud of, often adds another dimension to how I am perceived. We still have much to do when it comes to unconscious bias in and outside the... workplace." Today, we are so excited to share the story of our #WomenInAutomotive Member of the Month, Priyani Withanarachi, and how falling into automotive after the birth of her second son, led her to spearheading industry first #supplychain transformations. 15.01.2022 "Learning to adjust your techniques is one of your biggest strengths. Just because you might approach a skill or a task differently doesn’t make you any less capable. Women in automotive are just as capable as our male counterparts." - Heavy Vehicle Diesel Mechanic, Ashley Beeby. This month we are so excited to feature Ashley as our #WomenInAutomotive member of the month! Whether it's completing her apprenticeship 7 months early, advocating for women working in trades, or writing her first fiction novel, Ashley is carving an inspiring path for a woman who accidentally fell into the industry. 12.01.2022 "Turning 60 this year, I found that I had to know someone just to get a foot in the door, as not only was I a minority by my gender but also by my age. When I found the #WomenInAutomotive guidebook 'How to Attract, Recruit, and Retain Women in the #AustralianAutomotive Industry', I thought that was fantastic. Resources like the guidebook weren’t there 10 years ago, and trust me, I looked very hard to find something similar." This month we are so proud to feature Jacqui Carrol...l of Bendigo Accident Repair Centre and Bendigo Retro Muscle Cars as our WinA Member of the Month! Whether it's her current roles, her past experience owning a panel shop, or her involvement with motor racing from both a grass roots and professional level, Jacqui leads an incredibly involved life in automotive, and we are proud to feature her. 06.01.2022 "When someone asks me ‘how do you work in #auto events, don’t you have long hours? Who looks after your children?’ I usually respond clearly with a reminder that a man wouldn’t be asked this question, so it’s inappropriate to ask me. I look at it as a learning opportunity. As an industry and a society, we are a work in progress when it comes to #genderequality, and I’m thankful to have such strong women working towards it with me." This month we are so proud to feature Women in Automotive - WinA member, Blaire Race, and her incredible journey from admin assistant to National Sales Administrator and Events Manager at Mitsubishi Motors Australia . 06.01.2022 Women in Automotive With just shy of 1000 members, we are proud to stand as the industry-leading platform to promote, empower, and support women working across all levels and sectors of automotive.
05.01.2022 In 2018, an industry study found that women were most likely to avoid working in automotive due to the perception that it was an "unattractive or unsuitable environment for women." When women don't see other women in the workplace, it's often taken as a cue that women don't belong. That's why we feature one #WomenInAutomotive member from a different sector of the automotive industry a month. Not a member yet? It's free and done in seconds via the link in our bio.... Know of someone you'd like to see featured? Tag them below!
