19.01.2022 Targeted ads, fake websites, and digital dossiers form a range of technologies used by anti-choice organisations in the UK (and USA). In particular, they are using geo-fencing technology to target ads towards women inside abortion clinics, a new report has found.

18.01.2022 "Power often derives from deep structural inequalities, but also seeps into norms and beliefs, into what we know as truth, and what we believe about the world and about ourselves within it. Power legitimizes hierarchy and authority, and manufactures consent."

18.01.2022 You are shifting the employers religious beliefs the cost of them onto the employees, Ginsburg told then-Solicitor General Noel Francisco. Women who lose birth control coverage, she added, will likely be forced to hunt for coverage from government programs like Medicaid or pay for their health care out of pocket. The women end up getting nothing.

15.01.2022 "The move will be made on a temporary basis, limited for two years or until the coronavirus crisis is over, and applies for medical abortions up to the tenth week of pregnancy. Women will be sent the two pills required for an early termination in the post following a telephone or e-consultation with a doctor."

14.01.2022 From Northern Ireland:

14.01.2022 "... then I stopped thinking about what this life would be like for me, and started to think about what this life would be like for him ... I remembered that while I didnt mind going hungry every once in a while when there are gaps between payments for my freelance work, it would be unacceptable for a child to lack food. I considered my inability to find stable work."

14.01.2022 This article discusses the abortion access situation in the UK, USA, Germany, Italy, Spain, and France. Services are being severely curtailed in Italy and Germany in particular.

13.01.2022 More than 500 health care providers across Kenya have been trained and supported by the Reproductive Health Network Kenya (RHNK) and are committed to offering q...uality reproductive health services, including safe abortion, to their clients. They provide these services to all who need them, without judgment. The global #COVID19 pandemic is now challenging them in new ways, yet they continue to find a way to ensure safety and choice remain at the centre of reproductive health care. RHNKs ambition is to contribute to the reduction of maternal morbidity and mortality among Kenyan women and girls. Unsafe abortions cause an estimated 7 women to die every day in Kenya. RHNK knows that providing services and safe products is essential to saving womens lives by preventing unsafe abortions. They engage local leaders, community health workers, pharmacists and youth peer providers, and mobilise communities to increase awareness of reproductive health and safe abortion services. https://www.safeabortionwomensright.org/kenya-covid-19-the/

13.01.2022 Namibia is debating whether to legalize abortion. A motion in Parliament would allow debate on the pros and cons of making abortion on request available, and thousands of Namibians have signed a petition calling for reform of the abortion law.

12.01.2022 Please spare a few minutes (it does not take long) to complete this important survey about community attitudes to abortion:

12.01.2022 From New Zealand:

12.01.2022 94% of all maternal deaths occur in low and lower-middle-income countries. In Nigeria, progress towards cutting the number of maternal deaths has been largely i...nsufficient. It is among the top six countries in the world that contribute more than 50% of all global maternal deaths. The high number reflects inequities in access to health services. The major complications leading to maternal death in Nigeria are severe bleeding, infections, high blood pressure, and unsafe abortion. See more

12.01.2022 "In Australia, abortion is largely classified to be an elective or semi-elective procedure. While non-urgent elective surgeries have been cancelled to increase capacity for Covid-19 patients, critical gynaecological procedures, including abortion, are classified as essential and urgent. But there are other challenges to access."

11.01.2022 All these girls know somebody that has been killed or disappeared, and they have watched the government do nothing about it, said Angélica Nadurille of the Eq...uity and Gender Collective. They’re angry. And they are right to be the government is part of the problem because they have closed their eyes to the problems that exist, and I think that is because of the personal belief of the president. 10.01.2022 "Some brands of contraceptive and hormone replacement therapy have been subject to mysterious worldwide shortages ... the expected length of the supply shortages in Australia has blown out, by more than a year in the case of the popular HRT patch Estradot."

10.01.2022 Supermodel Anja Rubik has posed nude in 3 cover photos for Vogue Poland's 'The Power of Women' issue, to protest Poland's court decision banning abortion. Rub...ik describes the covers as the 'most important and personal' of her career: '...nudity has become a symbol of the female revolution. Currently in Poland, there are ongoing government plans to deprive women of their reproductive rights and the right to decide about their own lives and bodies. ... A woman's right to choose is a litmus test for a healthy, progressive society.' See more

09.01.2022 Dr Agnes Odhiambo of Human Rights Watch in Kenya, said they should never have been jailed. While this is a good move, women and girls should never, in the fir...st place, be imprisoned for exercising their reproductive rights. The government of Rwanda should remove punitive measures for women who undergo abortions. #decriminalizeabortion #freethemnow #reproductivefreedom

09.01.2022 "Abortion providers said Covid-19 has exacerbated this fight, with some states claiming abortions need to be stopped during the pandemic to preserve hospital beds and personal protective equipment for workers ...The American Medical Association, the countrys largest association of physicians, has described such regulations as exploiting the Covid-19 pandemic ..."

08.01.2022 "Care is a womans most dangerous gateway drug. Pick up the dry-cleaning once and the next thing you know, youre knocked up and wondering where your writing career went."

06.01.2022 "Perhaps ironically, the current Covid-19 public health crisis has improved, if only temporarily, womens access to medical abortions."

05.01.2022 "When I decided to do this work and people were like its an abortion clinic and youre a midwife, I pointed out how, historically, midwives also helped people with terminations. And I said that the barriers people are having to access abortion care are the same ones theyre having to access [prenatal] care."

05.01.2022 "McCorveys opinion toward abortion evolved throughout much of her life, but what stayed consistent was the feeling she was used as a pawn by both sides in the debate."

05.01.2022 Last month, changes to the Polish Penal Code were made quietly. They include an up to eight-year prison sentence for those who provide abortions outside the lim...its of Polands already highly restrictive law, and penalties for offending the president, theft, and involuntary medical mistakes. This all took place in line with the presidential elections going ahead in #Poland. The current party in power has been accused of seeking to cement its power and rally its base, thus further eroding the rule of law, human rights protection and democracy. Under the new clauses, absolute prison sentences, without the possibility of mitigation, will now apply to anyone who has provided an illegal abortion. Fears have been expressed by women on social media that this includes those who have abortions too, *though they should be assured that it does not*. In Poland, the legislation on abortion care is already among the most restrictive in Europe. Attempts to restrict rights further have been constant, with ultra-right groups influencing the governments agenda. In May, the Polish Parliament tried to remove the legal obligation to refer patients to another facility if they refuse to provide abortion care based on their personal beliefs, for example. The new provision opens the way to heavy prosecution and sentencing of doctors and other abortion providers, who have already faced increased prosecution for many years. Womens community support groups have also become the target of attacks in the last two years. https://www.safeabortionwomensright.org/poland-criminalisa/

04.01.2022 "Anna is worried because article 356 of the UAE Penal Code states that anyone convicted of engaging in consensual sex outside of marriage, if caught, is likely ...to be punished with a jail sentence, followed by deportation. Although Dubai turns a blind eye to unmarried couples who cohabit usually wealthy expatriates pregnant women have, over the years, been arrested and then jailed if they fail to provide evidence of being married." 03.01.2022 Here is the official approval from the UK Department of Health & Social Care for home use of both abortion pills, but it is for England only. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will need to write their own because abortion is a devolved issue.
