12.01.2022 PCOS Awareness Month PCOS is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Fun facts: ... PCOS affects 1 in 10 women. The name is misleading, and there is a push for it to be renamed or changed back to its old name Stein- Leventhal Syndrome, this is because you do not need cysts in order to have PCOS and cysts alone do not mean you have PCOS. Diagnosis is made by bloods and ultrasound combined. While there is no known cause, there is strong research indicating it is a genetic condition that can be passed from a female or male and that it starts in utero. For males the condition is called metabolic X syndrome. There is no cure, but it can be managed by lifestyle alone or in conjunction with medication for individual symptoms and side affects. Ignoring the symptoms and not taking the appropriate precautions and lifestyle changes can lead to further more serious health complications such as cancer and diabetes. Having PCOS does not guarantee you will have fertility problems, many women including myself conceive with no medical intervention. *The below is not a full list of symptoms or complications that can arise from having PCOS, they wouldnt all fit on the board. #pcos #pcosawareness
