25.01.2022 Influenza vaccinations We have received our flu immunisations this week, and will be running immunisation appointments over the next few weeks. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our flu clinics will look rather different this year. For adults, flu immunisations will be carried out in our car park (located on Sale Street). Please arrive at the time of appointment, not earlier. ... We will assess you in your car, administer your immunisation, and ask you to remain in the car park for 10 minutes after the immunisation to ensure you have had no adverse reaction. If you require any other input from our doctors, please make a separate Telehealth appointment with our reception. Our younger patients will have their flu immunisations administered inside the practice, but parents will then be asked to wait in the car with their children for 10minutes, rather than in the practice. Please contact the practice on 63601115 to make your appointment for flu immunisation. Who qualifies for Medicare funded flu immunisations? all patients aged 65 years and over All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island patients aged 6 months and over All patients aged 6 months to less than 5 years of age (if this is the first year they have had influenza immunisation, they will require 2 immunisations at least 4 weeks apart) Pregnant women (at any stage of their pregnancy) Patients with medical conditions which increase the risk of influenza complications What happens if I don’t qualify for a Medicare funded flu immunisation? we stock a limited number of private flu immunisations- please ask our admin for more details. When should I receive my flu vaccination? Optimal protection against influenza occurs within the first three to four months following vaccination. Vaccinating from April provides protection for the peak influenza season (typically June to August) Will this year’s influenza immunisation protect me against COVID-19? unfortunately there is currently no immunisation to protect against COVID-19, but reducing the risk of influenza and its complications at a time when the health service is stretched with the pandemic, is essential. My child is due routine immunisations. Can they have their influenza immunisation at the same time? yes, we can give them the influenza immunisation alongside their childhood vaccinations. Please do not hesitate to contact the practice if you have any questions regarding influenza immunisations, or any of the other immunisations.

19.01.2022 Information on COVID-19

18.01.2022 To all our patients, we are committed to providing the best care to all our patients, whilst ensuring the safety of our staff. From Monday, Drs Best and Overton will be running our clinics by phone/skype so patients dont have to come to the practice. We have a narrow window of opportunity to do this, this could not be more urgent. more information on how this will work over the next 24hours. Shared from Dr Dan Suan, Immunologist at Westmead Hospital. ... Hi a few people asked me where Australia is at the moment with Covid-19. We reached our 100th case on Tuesday the 10th of March (3 days ago, x-axis), and we now have 199 confirmed cases (y-axis) - Ive plotted this point with a red dot. We are testing really well, so it is a fairly accurate number, waaayyy more accurate than the USA which is on the precipice of a total disaster (separate story, Im so upset). Its at a very early part of the curve, but you can see we are doing really well compared to other industrialised nations (we want to be as close to the Japanese, Singaporean and Hong Kong curves as possible). The next two weeks is absolutely critical to the direction of this curve. Total social isolation, complete interpersonal distancing, combined with massively increased testing (which we have just built capacity for this week in our labs) will flatten this curve and save countless Australian lives. We can do this with no vaccine and no effective antivirals. Each individual simply has to make it their personal responsibility to have minimal contact with all other people. Cancel all unnecessary things. I hope you understand I would not say this if I was not absolutely sure of how critical this is. Please share with your family and friends. Sending lots of love, take care please Dan Suan MBBS FRACP FRCPA PhD Staff Specialist Immunologist, Westmead Hospital Staff Specialist Immunopathologist, NSW Health Pathology Research Officer, Immunogenomics Lab, Garvan Institute
