A highlight occurs on the 19th when Mercury is joined by the star Spica and a thin slither of the Moon, to form a very pretty trio.... The brightest object youll see directly above the western horizon is the crescent Moon. The Moon, bright star, Spica and Mercury form a neat triangle in the evening sky. Spica appears above and to the left of the Moon. Mercury is the brighter star-like object directly below Spica. When to look: 6:45pm, 19th September Which direction to look: West https://astrotourismwa.com.au/september-moon/ #AstrotourismWA #wongantourism

03.01.2022 The Magical Constellation of Scorpio Now is the time to find Scorpio! Learning to point out constellations can be challenging but lots of fun, and one of the easiest to find is Scorpius the Scorpion. 03.01.2022 Can You Really See Jupiter During the Daytime?? Jupiter is so big and bright that, if you know where to look, you can see it during the day. Heres how! https://astrotourismwa.com.au/september-planets/ #AstrotourismWA #WonganTourism
02.01.2022 Two great movies booked for the 26th September. Make a weekend of it and experience watching a movie under the stars. The wildflowers will be in full bloom and the weather should be warming up too.
01.01.2022 Are you looking forward to the return of the hot weather? Kambarang (second spring) is the Nyoongar season of birth and sees an abundance of colours and flow...ers exploding around us. One of the most striking displays of flowers seen during this season is the "Moodjar", or Australian Christmas Tree (nuytsia floribunda). The bright orange flowers are a signal the heat is on its way and longer dry periods accompany a definite warming trend. The Moodjar is a powerful symbol for Noongar culture, with the spirits of ancestors resting in the branches. However, the unique, giant mistletoe has a sinister side it is the world's tallest parasitic tree that sucks moisture from other plants. Kambarang sees the yellows of acacias continue to abound, along with banksias and other smaller delicate flowering plants including kangaroo paws and orchids. Also during this time balgas will also start to flower especially if they've been burnt in the past year. October is the time of the year you'll most likely encounter a snake as the reptiles awaken from hibernation and look to make the most of the warm weather as they look for food. It's also a time many young families of birds will be singing out for their parents to feed them and koolbardies (magpies) will also be out protecting their nests and their babies. The Nyoongar calendar has six seasons, each representing the changes we see in the environment. Learn more about the six seasons on the Bureau of Meteorology's website: https://bit.ly/2rP5zbx.
