24.01.2022 The Shows Must Go On! Being Shakespeare, Simon Callow Featuring a tour de force performance from Simon Callow, Being Shakespeare is a one-man show about the life and work of the world’s greatest playwright.... Written by the renowned scholar Jonathan Bate, and taking its cue from Jacques’ famous ‘Seven Ages of Man’ speech in As You Like It, the drama traces Shakespeare’s life from his birth in Stratford-upon-Avon in 1564 to his burial there fifty-two years later. Weaving together this story with extracts from many of Shakespeare’s most famous plays, Simon Callow presents a vivid and very human portrait of the man and of the Elizabethan world in which he lived. Recorded before an audience during the play’s triumphant London run, Being Shakespeare is both a wonderful introduction to the author and a richly nuanced, funny and fascinating study for those who already love his plays. #WhatsonStage #TheShowMustGoOn #BeingShakespeare #SimonCallow #Plays #Theatre #WestEnd #London #Performance #Entertainment #PerformingArts #Staysafe #BassCoast #Wonthaggi #WonthaggiArtsCentre #Online #Family

21.01.2022 Australian Music Vault The Silent voice Episode 1... As part of our commitment to capturing and sharing great Australian music stories, the Australian Music Vault responded to the challenges of COVID-19 by creating a series of video stories that capture, in real time, the impact that this pandemic has had on the music community. This episode tells how the music industry was before COVID-19, what it was like when it had to shut down immediately, the consequences of staged restrictions, how it is responding to these challenges and ultimately, the mental health and wellbeing on an entire industry’s workforce. Many of the insights come from the unsung heroes whose stories are not often told, and give good advice for everybody on staying well and creative during lock down. 21.01.2022 Tyrown Waigana, a Perth based artist and designer, has been named as this year’s winner of the prestigious National NAIDOC Poster Competition. His winning entry - Shape of Land - was judged by the National #NAIDOC Committee to have best illustrated the 2020 NAIDOC theme: Always Was Always Will Be. Waigana, a proud Noongar and Saibai Islander, has previously been named as one of WA’s best new and emerging Indigenous artists.... According to the 23-year-old, his winning entry depicts the Rainbow Serpent coming out of the Dreamtime to create this country and how we are strongly connected to it. The Rainbow Serpent is represented by the snake and it forms the shape of Australia, which symbolises how it created our lands. The colour from the Rainbow Serpent is reflected on to the figure to display our connection to the Rainbow Serpent, thus our connection to country. The overlapping colours on the outside is the Dreamtime. The figure inside the shape of Australia is a representation of Indigenous Australians showing that this country - since the dawn of time - always was, and always will be Aboriginal land, Mr Waigana added. #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #Indigenous #Aboriginal #TorresStrait #FirstNations

14.01.2022 How does a revolve work? Melbourne Theatre Company Have you every wondered how a revolve works or do you know what a revolve is? It's a turntable in a stage which can be used to change the view of sets revealing a different location, or it could be used to show the passing of time. A Revolve can me used for a multitude of things. However MTC might be able to explain it in a little more detail!... A standard revolve is a round floor or turntable within the stage floor that spins around a central pivot point, driven by a motor and controlled by an automation operator. A motor is connected to the turntable by a friction drive. The revolve is modular by design, made up by a number of steel wedges with timber on top (like pieces of a pie) and wheels on the bottom, which fit together. A painted scenic floor is then added on top to disguise the revolve. #theatre #basscoast #MTC #MelbourneTheatreCompany #set #turntable #stage #stayathome #wonthaggi #artscentre #popcorn #entertainment #article #stagecraft #PerformingArts #performing #wonthaggiartscentre
