24.01.2022 Due to ongoing COVID 19 restrictions for venue capacity at the Wonthaggi Boxing Club / Yes Youth Hub, the AGM set for Tuesday 28th of July has been postponed until the 25th August at 6:00pm. This will be confirmed closer to this date as restrictions are eased or tightened. Keep safe.

22.01.2022 Good advise for people in tough times. We might have some relief soon from stage 3 restrictions in rural areas with no virus. Keep your fingers crossed. Stay safe and happy.

21.01.2022 We all have to do the right thing to get rid of this horrible virus. It's a problem we all need to work hard to overcome. Stay healthy and safe. The club wishes you all the very best.

20.01.2022 Now that the government has told us that gyms can open again this week we will be holding our AGM asap. As a not for profit organization and an Incorporated Club this has to happen first. At this meeting we will work out how to operate safely under covid guidelines and open the gym. The rooms are ready to go we just have to sort the personnel.

18.01.2022 How to get around rules.

17.01.2022 Well the gym is open again on Monday and Wednesday nights for two sessions. If you are sick in any way please do not attend training. Session 1 starts at 5.30 pm and finishes 6.15 pm. The second session will need to start at 6.25 pm and go to 7.10 pm to allow 10 minutes between sessions to clean. The first session is nearly full and there are a few places available in the second sessions. Please remember you enter the gym through the room with the ring in it. You will be ask...ed about your health and have your temperature taken. Then we'll take details needed for covid tracing. When we leave we will leave through the wooden door in the long room. So people coming in don't meet people leaving. Parents need to stay out of the gym unless they have been asked to help. If parents come in we need your details and your temperature needs to be taken. If we have 10 people training parents should watch from outside the building they wont be asked to help We probably need to isolate a few of those extra kilos and get rid of them. Thank you for your help in this. Cheers See more

12.01.2022 How to keep fit in iso. This guy has so much energy. He is talented and oozes enthusiasm.

10.01.2022 Gene Parini from Gippsports has been trying to support not for profit sporting clubs during this time of the COVID 19 crisis. Gippsports have been working on podcasts, webinars and phone calls with clubs. With restrictions easing and it’s now allowed up to 10 people outside for training some clubs are considering going back. Football clubs are meant to train with 10 people to half the oval. The cleaning and hygiene around the sporting clubs is a huge priority for clubs that g...o back to training and some clubs have been concerned with their insurances under these restrictions. They have been trying to navigate how to re-engage young people in a sports capacity In relation to boxing we are still only allowed to train outside with lots of social distancing. When training does resume we will not be able to share gloves or head gear. Members will need their own. Bags will need to be wiped over after each person’s use. Jiu jitsu is a problem due to the need for constant close contact. We are just listening to the experts and the government health officers for direction and advice. The Flow program (Flexible Learning) were utilising the Hub from Mon-Wed during Term 1 and had to stop at the beginning of Term 2 due to the COVID 19 lockdown. They have informed us that they are planning to go back into the Hub on the 26th of May along with other schools that will be back in operation. See more

09.01.2022 Thanks to Steve, Aaron and Ben from the Wonthaggi Boxing Club for being part of our soon to be released Victoria Youth Week Video! We'll be sharing this video... at the end of this month and can't wait for you to see it! (Trust us, physics has never been so interesting.) After being postponed earlier this year due to coronavirus (COVID-19), Victorian Youth Week 2020 has a new date and a new format. A special month-long Victorian Youth Week will be held from 15 November to 15 December 2020, with all events to take place online and in line with coronavirus restrictions at the time of the activity. #youthweek2020 #vicyouthweek

08.01.2022 We have appointed a new committee at our AGM last night. This is what they decided. The Wonthaggi Boxing Club Inc. will open again on Monday the 9th of November and Wednesday the 11th of November. We will have a soft approach and get used to the new covid guidelines for training. So on Monday and Wednesday from 5.30 pm to 7.00 pm there will be training for males and females at the same time. We will run two forty five minute sessions and the maximum people training will be 10... people. At first we are going to start with only 12 year olds and up. We have to keep social distancing, regular cleans of equipment and none of your gear can be left around the room. If you take something off such as gloves they need to go in your own bag. We will no longer share club gloves. You will have to have your own. Only four people at a time will use the punching bags. The offer to our 50+ members we haven’t seen in months is that you email the club or send the club a message on face book if you want to train. You need to say which day/days you want to train and which of the two sessions you want to attend. The first to express an interest in getting back to the gym will get first priority. We will then have a list of any member that misses out and any new person who wants to join the club and train. We are sorry that some people might have to wait. Just remember this is a not for profit club, none of our coaches are paid and they volunteer their time. So knowing covid 19 the way we do now all our members have varying degrees of concern with the virus and we are just moving slowly to re-open. The jiu jitsu, which is all contact can’t be offered yet. Our two coaches are still keen but we will look at how the situation stands next year. After months of missing exercise we understand everyone will be keen to get into sport and activities that are good for the mind and body. It doesn’t matter what sport or exercise you do. Just get into something. Good luck! The Wonthaggi Boxing Club Committee. See more

07.01.2022 The science behind movement. The sports include boxing, surfing and skateboarding. Thanks to Karen Bateman and the Libraries for putting this together.

07.01.2022 This is great news.

05.01.2022 Thank you to all those involved in setting this up then making it happen. Thank you to the YES Youth Hub.

04.01.2022 We want to hold the AGM for the Wonthaggi Boxing Club Incorporated this Thursday the 29th of October. Start 5:30pm at the Wonthaggi Boxing Club. Please let us know if you have any objections to this short notice and also if you can attend. Many of our club members haven't seen each other since March so we look forward to seeing our adult members on Thursday. Once we have a new committee we can reopen with limited numbers and dedicated COVID Safety Officers for each session.

02.01.2022 Tim Tszyu has beaten Jeff Horn by technical knockout in their super welterweight contest in Townsville. The decision came when Horn failed to come out for the ninth round, having been comprehensively beaten by his younger opponent. Tszyu worked over Horn throughout the fight with some vicious body shots and punishing right hands.... Horn was knocked down in the third round thanks to a brutal left uppercut, but gamely hung on in typical fashion for another five rounds before failing to rise from his stool. By that point, Horn looked weary, battered and ultimately, defeated. Tszyu looked the more composed from the very first bell, stalking a cagey and lumbering Horn from the outset. The 25-year-old dominated both at distance with his jab and in close with some brutal body shots and upper cuts. It was a remarkable performance from Tszyu, who belied his relative inexperience in what was the first genuine test of his 16-fight professional career.

02.01.2022 It is easy to make one of these. Using the head band to a head torch also works well. Work on getting your fitness and coordination back. A perfect skill to learn in iso.

01.01.2022 It is now time to register for training sessions starting next week. Please tell the club with an email or message on our facebook page if you want to train Monday at 5.00 pm or Monday at 5.45 pm. Wednesdays will have the same training times. So what times do you want to be there? Please reply if you want to train and please reply if you don’t want to be involved. We have had people who are not club members wanting to train. The members should get first chance. The final l...ist for each training session will be put together on the weekend. We have not forgotten our under 12 members but we have always asked for parents to attend with under ten members and we can’t have parents involved inside the club with covid restrictions. There will probably be 5 weeks training to Christmas. Hopefully, we might have more freedom when we start back in 2021. So please, please, please reply to the club if you are a member either way so your unpaid coaches know who will be training next week. The info below is part of our last post on facebook page.
