24.01.2022 My wonderful son, Blaine is once again taking part in the Marathon 3 day bike ride Westpac Tour de Cure 2021 to raise money for cancer research. This year the ride starts in Forster tomorrow and actually comes to the Central Coast this year, on Monday afternoon and leaves on Tuesday. You may see the huge group of riders coming through! If you would like to sponsor him on this ride, go to the Westpac Tour de Cure 2021 website. ... There is a red button which says " donate to a team member" his team member name is Blaine Pickering. That is him with the wild pink shoes! All donations are tax deductible and you will receive a receipt. This ride has raised a huge amount over the years, thanks to the volunteer riders and support crew who train for months to complete the ride. Thank you so much to those who have sponsored him in the past and to anyone who can for this ride. Any amount is appreciated and can be claimed on tax.

21.01.2022 Groomers "bath and tidy" When you take your dog to the groomer, you will be asked what you want done. Some groomers will have a set menu to choose from, and most will offer the choice of a "full clip and groom", or a "bath and tidy" though they may call them different names.... Most groomers will include the same things in each groom, but to be sure it is best that you check what is included, so you get the groom you want. In winter, and for many of my regular clients for between clips, a " bath and tidy" is all they need. A "bath and tidy" does not include clipping any of the hair on the body. It includes clipping the hair under the eyes, the pads and the tail. And, if needed, in the groin area. Your dog is then bathed, conditioned and blow dried. The ears are checked and the nails trimmed and filed. Your groomers will then usually shape around the mouth and above the eyes, blend in around the back of the thighs and shape around the feet. A spritz of cologne and a bow and the dog is ready to go home. This will also generally cost less than a full clip and groom. ( provided there isn't any extra work that needs doing, such a matt removal) If you ask your groomer to take a little off the body, you are now asking for a "full clip and groom." Unlike going to a hairdresser, taking a little off the length on a dog is actually more work than clipping the dog short. It takes longer to bath, much longer to dry and involves more work shaping and blending the hair. The more you ask your groomer to do, the longer it will take and usually, the more it will cost. If you are a valued regular, your groomer may know you and your dog well and will include a trim up of the legs and the tummy line to keep the dog cleaner, if that is what you like, they may also tidy the ears or tail if needed. This is an complimentary added extra for a valued client, and will vary depending on the breed of dog. A "Bath and tidy" is a great way to keep your dog maintained between grooms, or if you don't want the coat clipped especially in cold weather. And done regularly, it is a great way to prevent matting over the winter period, so you can enjoy having your dog with a longer coat.

21.01.2022 Jennie's Dog Grooming Home Help. This is a new Facebook page I have started to help you with your home dog maintenance. I am hoping it will help you through this enforced incarceration and will give you the skills to maintain your dogs at home, between grooming appointments for those who use a groomer, and for everyone who baths their own dogs.... I will post regular articles aiming to build your knowledge and skills in manageable chunks. Feel free to ask questions if you need something made clearer. Please see the link in the comments.

18.01.2022 Well, that is that then. I am just waiting on confirmation of an appointment and am now fully booked up until Christmas. If you have been caught out and still need your dog groomed in December, I will have a cancellation list. Please message or call and I will let you know as soon as something becomes available. PS cards pictured are available from her website.

15.01.2022 My wonderful son, Blaine, is once again challenging himself on the Tour de Cure bike ride to raise funds for cancer research. This time they are riding from Bathurst to Barangaroo! Any donations you can make towards his profile on the Tour de Cure page will be greatly appreciated, and the knowledge that you are all behind him on this ride will help to spur him on when his muscles are screaming and his motivation and determination wane. Thank you.

15.01.2022 The salon is operating as usual for the moment. observing social distancing and washing requirements. perhaps if you are considering getting your dog groomed, we should do it soon rather than risk a shut down later. However if you have any signs of illness at all, please cancel your appointment. Most dogs can go another few months without harm.... we will just sort out the coat problem when the situation eases. I am planning a series of helpful information to hopefully ease you over any containment period, until I can groom your dog again. Check back here. thank you to my lovely client for the bunch of roses from her garden, it has given a lot of pleasure.

14.01.2022 For something different, I am uploading some of the videos on maintenance that I have done for my Jennies Dog Grooming Home Help page. Thank you to the models for their cooperation that enabled me to make the videos. I hope they help you to maintain your dog when needed, but just don't cut too much off! I can't stick it back on. ... 14.01.2022 I know it is a frightening thought, but we need to think Christmas grooming appointments soon. For those regular clients who are having appointments now, you may also need another just before Christmas. For those once a year clip offs, please don't leave it until the week before Christmas to ring for an appointment as I am usually booked up by the beginning of December. I am only off between Christmas Eve and New Year, back working on the first week of January. I am currently... working mornings Monday to Friday. I can work in afternoon appointments if needed. Photo of Casper, just because he looks cute. See more

11.01.2022 Torrential rain for the Westpac Tour de Cure Ride very safely everyone.

11.01.2022 Getting the groom you want for your dog. I read, on many of the Facebook sites, about dog owners disappointed with the groom their dog has received. This is something that needs addressing with more knowledge about groomers and the grooming process. Getting the groom you want depends on three factors.... The groomer you choose, their level of experience and grooming and communication skills. You, the owner. How well you maintain your dog's hair, your communication and dog handling skills. Your dog. Their coat type, breed/s, temperament and training level. I will deal with each of these things separately as there are very many variables to consider. You need to get all three elements right to get the best groom for your dog. It disappoints me that when a new client rings me, the only thing they ask is how much it will cost to groom their dog. This is then followed with when I have time available, if they like my answer. There are many many differences between groomers, not just the price of the groom. Dog ( and cat) grooming is an unregulated industry. It is quite possible for anyone to pick up some clippers and advertise themselves as a dog groomer. While there are grooming course available, they vary from a week to several months and can cover very different amounts of information. Some courses are just intended for owners to maintain their own dogs while other courses are very indepth and are intended for groomers going into business. They are expensive. Pet grooming is also an industry that attracts idealistic young people who love animals. While that is a good thing, it does not in itself make a good groomer. If you have a longhaired dog or one that is going to require grooming you need to choose and form a good relationship with your groomer. You are going to see them on a regular basis for 12-16 years, if you are lucky for your dog to live a long life. Let's make going to the groomer an enjoyable and rewarding experience, and the groom one that you feel happy with and is easy for you to maintain. I will go through the elements that will help you choose your groomer, learn what your skills as a dog owner are, and what your dog contributes to the outcome of the grooming appointment.

10.01.2022 Winter tidy up Grooms. Many clients like to keep their dogs with more hair on during the cooler weather, but find that areas such as the bottom, feet and face still get mucky and overlong. Bath and tidy up grooms might be what you need. Bath and tidy up grooms for long haired dogs include:... Shampoo, conditioner and blowdry. Clip area under feet and eyes and tail, and trim up long hair in those areas. Body hair is brushed and dried but not cut. Nails checked, trimmed and filed as needed. Prices start at $55 for small dogs such as Maltese. $60 for Toy Poodles This is suitable for clients who do not need the body hair clipped. Full grooms include body hair clipping but this can be left longer during the cooler months if wanted. Full grooms include: Shampoo, conditioner and blowdry. Body clipping to length required, feet, face and tail areas clipped, faces shaped if required. Nails checked, trimmed and filed as required. Prices start at $70 for a small dog such as Maltese/$75 for Toy Poodles

10.01.2022 To all my valued clients, it is business as usual at the moment. The only restriction is if you are self isolating due to overseas travel or contact with someone who tested positive, please wait until your quarantine period is over before bringing your dog in for grooming. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing you for your pre winter clips and for your winter tidy ups or longer clips as we would usually do.

09.01.2022 I tried to get Patches to show me his beautifully shaped face today, but he didn't want his photo taken. If you need help with maintenance trimming to get you through home isolation, or if your groomer is closed, go across to my Facebook page. Jennies Dog Grooming Home Help. For some videos on how to trim face, feet and bottom.

08.01.2022 Getting the groom you want from your groomer - part 1 - The Groomer. Dog Grooming is an unregulated industry. There is alot of difference between groomers, apart from the price. It is up to you, the dog owner, to find the groomer that suits you....Continue reading

05.01.2022 I am still open for grooming during this difficult time. Dog Groomers are not required to close, and it is permitted to travel for that purpose. However, if you are unwell, or have had any contact with someone with Corona Virus, please reschedule your appointment until a safer time. I have very elderly parents who I care for and cannot risk their safety.... I am practising safe distancing and have hand sanitiser available for use. So if you are in need of an appointment, please give me a call.

04.01.2022 Getting The Groom You Want - part 2 You, the Owner. Probably about 80% of the responsibility for getting the groom you want relies on you, the Owner. About 10% the Groomer and about 10% your dog, its temperament, coat type and shape....Continue reading
