22.01.2022 Duckies, training is back on from tomorrow. Same time, same location.
18.01.2022 A weekend of mixed results for the first game back after the Christmas and New Year break. Thirds got up by 17 runs, whereas Sixths went down by 8 runs. The MO'R Mortgage Options Third Grade Team took on Panthers. Winning the toss, Turbo opted to bat first a beautiful day for cricket. Brendan (37) and Marty (21) put on a fifty-run opening stand and got things off to a good start. Harry pitched in with 36 and Nath wound back the clock anchoring our innings for a well-played 46.... The guys finished on a very competitive 177. The bowling innings was very much a tale of three distinct thirds. The first was dominated by the Wood Ducks, going into the first drinks break with the Panthers at 5/48. The next, not so much, with the Panthers putting on 100 runs in 15 overs. But, the guys kept their heads, executed two perfect run outs, and got home with 17 runs to spare. Mo (4/21) and Jesse (3/26) led the way, with Jason picking up one too. The Rose Cottage Sixth Grade Team took on ANU. ANU won the toss and chose to bat, putting on a very competitive 205 from their 45 overs. A number of chances were created, but the Duckies probably had one too many puddings over the break and didn't quite capitalise. At drinks, ANU were 1/114 and set for a bigger total. The guys managed to regroup with some tight bowling, led the way by Hoops (5/41) and JP (1/18), with a bonus run out. With a big total to chase, the Duckies got off to a very wobbly start being 4/19 in the eighth over. However, Al stepped up to the plate to post his second century for the club and almost guide us to victory. Al fell on 101, but was well supported by Jeremy (34) and Jimmy (17). Unfortunately, the Duckies couldn't quite get there falling just 8 runs short. Captain's Picks for the Real Jerks Beef Jerky go to Nath, for reminding us why he was one of the premier batsmen in the earlier years of the club, and Al, for almost single-handedly guiding Sixth Grade to victory.
05.01.2022 Congratulations to Scotty Martens who today became the newest member of the 50-game club for the Wood Ducks! Mate, you frustrate me sometimes with your approach to 'making friends' on the field () but you're a great guy off it and a really important member of the club, and our top side. Here's to 50 more! ... Luke
02.01.2022 A tough weekend for the Duckies, losing both games in the derby with Canberra Rhinos. The MO'R Mortgage Options Third Grade Team batted first, aiming to set a decent score and apply strong pressure on the Rhinos during the chase. Unfortunately, at 7/40 odd it didn't quite go to plan with Turbo (17) the only top order batsmen offering any level of resistance. However, a rear guard action from Scotty (19) and Ash (36*) ensured the Duckies limped to 9/109, and something to bowl ...at. And we certainly put on a bowling performance that almost secured the win. Mo (0/3 off five overs) bowled awesomely, before hurting his leg and not being able to continue. Luckily, Turbo (3/22), Scotty (3/30) and Ash (2/22), plus a wicket to Brad, certainly rattled the Rhinos batting line up. In the end, two drop catches, the 10th wicket no less, meant the Duckies went down by one wicket. Great effort though, considering the start. The Rose Cottage Sixth Grade Team won the toss and elected to send the Rhinos into bat first. Unfortunately the boys didn’t take enough chances, and the score ballooned to 222 when they were bowled out in the final over. The silver lining to the innings was AJ standing up as a genuine bowling option, taking 4/28 off six overs at the death. Chet, Brendo, and Jeremy also chipped in for a wicket each, while Sam bowled very tidily for his two wickets. The boys needed to come out aggressively but unfortunately it just wasn’t our day. Only Jeremy (26), Sam (23), and Harry (14) were able to crack double figures. Ash and AJ took home the Captain's Pick for the Real Jerks Beef Jerky award. With six games left in the regular season both teams are still on track for the finals but will need a few wins to secure their spots. Go the Ducks!
