25.01.2022 We would love some empty clean icecream containers and plastic fruit containers. They can be left in the kitchen

25.01.2022 Yr 5's in Kelly Packer's rm 25 class today have been very busy. Together they made 5kg of potato salad and a beetroot, broccoli and lentil salad (which will have rocket and feta added) plus some lovely chunky fig muffins. All this is headed to Kangaroo Island tomorrow and will be part of lunch and dinner on Saturday for volunteers and their families helping to repair fire damaged properties.

24.01.2022 Another interesting plant the garden is Capparis Spinosa - the caper berry plant Loving a hot, dry climate it grows well here and the buds can be pickled and used in salads and condiments Sometimes the shoots and young leaves are also picked. Today I harvested a few buds along with some more nectarines, figs and a few little apricots from our smallest tree. The caper plant has very attractive flowers too

24.01.2022 A couple of variations using similar ingredients and so simple to make. A few weeks ago we did Lebanese flatbread spread with tomato paste and lots of fresh chopped herbs like oregano, thyme and parsley and then grated cheese on top.. Baked in the oven for about 5 - 10 minutes. A great snack of simple meal! This week we made tomato, cheese and herb scrolls. We made a scone dough and used dried herbs in the dough as well Both very popular with students... https://docs.google.com//1gxyTXzImvmtJXSdRTZ9hFEq4Lg/edit

24.01.2022 We've been using some of our lovely fresh apples to make apple sauce/puree to eat with our scones https://docs.google.com//1XDi5oGjPzRH7SK1sykRIZYUY7R/edit

23.01.2022 Still busy busy in the kitchen and garden Another load of carrots and about 15 kgs of nectarines and a huge bowl of sweet basil

22.01.2022 Term 3, can't wait to be back in the garden! See you soon Woodend :)

21.01.2022 Looks like fun!

19.01.2022 What a great weekend we had on Kangaroo Island doing our little bit helping bushfire recovery. My husband helped take down destroyed fencing on a farming property and I worked at Island Care helping sort the donations for fire victims and also cleaning a home A big thank you again to Rm 25 who made salads and muffins for the volunteers and families we worked with. They loved the food and say "thank you" I spoke with KI mayor Michael Pengilly and he sends his best wishes to the class too

19.01.2022 I spy someone on a nest Taking advantage of a quiet holiday garden

15.01.2022 Still needing icecream containers please. Peaches peaches everywhere

15.01.2022 This chilly time of year is a great time for making pasties and calzone. All sorts of vegetables (and mince meat too) could be used at home. The students had to choose at least 5 vegetables to put in their pasty filling. We used ready rolled sheets of frozen puff pastry - so easy. Chopped up the vegetables nice and small. Some egg wash to seal the edges and make them golden on top. The calzone - like an enclosed pizza - we made using basic bread dough. We chopped up onion, c...apsicum, mushroom, eggplant and cooked it for a couple of minutes in a pan. Then we added some fresh herbs, feta, ricotta and cheddar cheese. Flattened balls of dough into a circle, spread some tomato paste and some of the filling, then sealed the edges and baked. Sure makes a deliciously smelling, warm kitchen See more

10.01.2022 I walk out into my garden this time of year, and all I can think of is when I'll be able to get my tomatoes and cucs in! So spend this time, clearing and prepping beds for those favourite summer veggies. Add compost and slow release fertiliser. Cover and wait for October. And if you are really keen and have a little space now, there's always the leafy green lot that are grateful for the coolish times still ahead. But don't expect to be harvesting much until spring when the warmth brings on a growth spurt. https://www.organicgardener.com.au/blogs/what-plant-august

10.01.2022 I usually miss getting photos of food because it gets eaten before I remember to take a shot. Luckily I caught these 2 serves this week before they were eaten Spicy roast potatoes using freshly harvested potatoes Peach crumble with some of our own peaches https://docs.google.com//1q4WtbDBAq1jcZK3ltJsOroVp6Z/edit https://docs.google.com//1aNbe_-Itj9SRFsI-LZEwScEPzs/edit

07.01.2022 Thanks everyone for your soft plastic n boxes! We now have plenty!

07.01.2022 You can start out small, or really challenge yourself! For 1 Day, 1 Week or ALL of July! You can choose to avoid - Single-use plastic packaging - Target takeaway items (the Top 4: bags, bottles, straws and coffee cups)... - Or go completely plastic-free! See more

05.01.2022 What plastic item will you choose to refuse? Every year millions of people around the globe take part in the Plastic Free July challenge, choosing to refuse single-use plastics and drastically reducing the amount of plastic waste ending up as litter or going to landfill. The Plastic Free Foundation provide resources and ideas to help reduce single-use plastic waste everyday at home, work, school, and even at your local cafe.... Visit plasticfreejuly.org and take the challenge.

05.01.2022 The kitchen smelling like basil. This will become basil paste in the freezer. A hard harvest from the plants now and hopefully a nice crop when school is back

04.01.2022 The fig tree loves the heat. 5kg picked this morning and they're huge this year. These turban shaped nectarines are starting to ripen too - and they're delicious

01.01.2022 We need your clean 1 and 2 litre bottles! With caps and no labels thanks! Continuing on the good work of our waste unit, looking at recycling and re-using, we are making these great biodomes in garden over the term. Each project requires 2 bottles each. As many as you can to fill up our crate outside the garden. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_UuuP3aW2E
