25.01.2022 Somewhat sobering predictions for SE Queensland, including our Brigade area, for the next few months. Well worth a read.

24.01.2022 It's a year ago today that we responded to a 'small' grass fire in the national park, a fire that eventually burnt for weeks, threatened property in Walkers Point, the Kinkuna Estate and down Heidkes Road along the Gregory River and badly impacted on much of the national park behind our town. That no property was lost is a testiment to the many volunteer and professional emergency service responders from many services and organisations who came to our assistance from far and wide.

23.01.2022 Yesterday's hazard reduction burn at the end of Acacia Street reduced the risk of fire at the south end of town. From the road it may not look like much but a lot of ground fuel was removed, the stacks from the fire break pushed up during the big fire in November were reduced as well as a large number of native palm fronds that had accumulated over many years.

22.01.2022 Hmmmm! We put in 175 firefighter hours into this fire and probably about 40 support member hours.

22.01.2022 This afternoon's siren was a Firecall to respond to a fire at Buxton. It appears that the wind has refreshed the fire that has been burning on the Isis River for the last week. Btw If you want to see what is happening fire wise across Australia this is a very handy source of Information.

21.01.2022 Hazard reduction burning explained, featuring an interesting photo of Woodgate taken during the recent burn along the edge of the national park from Third Avenue to Seventh Avenue.

19.01.2022 Subject to weather the Brigade is assisting in a hazard reduction burn, tomorrow, Wednesday 5 August, in the block bounded by Acacia Street and the beach access at the southern end of town. It is likely that smoke will be seen from about mid morning.

19.01.2022 Along with a number of other emergency services we responded to the accident and fire just north of the Foleys Road, Goodwood Road intersection this morning. On the way home a small fire was noticed in the tree line on the northern side of Woodgate Road which got a bit attention. By the way the smoke about the place is from fires well beyond Woodgate. There are fires well to the west near Mount Perry and at Golden Fleece on the way to Dallarnil.... 19.01.2022 The siren this evening was to call the Brigade to a small fire about 1km along Theodolite Creek Drive on the edge of one of the beach access tracks. Like all fires it started small but it had the potential to grow much larger and more serious. Thanks to those who rang 000. Remember, if you see a fire call 000 and report it.The siren this evening was to call the Brigade to a small fire about 1km along Theodolite Creek Drive on the edge of one of the beach access tracks. 18.01.2022 Good afternoon Woodgate as well.....

15.01.2022 The Brigade is assisting Camp Gregory with a hazard reduction burn on the afternoon of Monday 20 July. Camp Gregory is on the Gregory River just to the west of Woodgate so if you see smoke in that direction, hopefully it is only our burn, which is being used as a training exercise for our newer members.

15.01.2022 Tomorrow we will be thinking of our late Chairman, John Bellerby. It's almost three years since that tragic accident.

14.01.2022 Seeing we live on the coast (also called our eastern firebreak) this article is particularly relevant to our area.

13.01.2022 Remembering John Bellerby, 3 years ago this evening....

13.01.2022 Some interesting photos of the Woodgate fire courtesy of Channel 7 Wide Bay.

10.01.2022 Good to see, but hopefully not in action around Woodgate this fire season.

10.01.2022 A LOCAL FIRE BAN has been declared for much of the North Coast and Wide Bay, including the Bundaberg Regional Council Area from 2355hrs on Monday 30th of November 2020 to 2355 hrs on Monday 7th December 2020. Exempt from the ban are fires lit for the purpose of cooking that are: * within a properly constructed receptacle such as a barbecue, smoker, or gas or wood fired pizza oven, and * where the fire cannot escape or cause embers to drift, and... * there must be a fire extinguishing device available (eg garden hose or fire extinguisher), and * they must not be left unattended. 09.01.2022 In case you wondered....

09.01.2022 Now that most of us in Woodgate are connected to the NBN something to think about and prepare... Use of NBN during emergency events Your home phone, computer or mobile device connected to the NBN will not work if there is a power failure during an emergency.... You may not be able to call Triple Zero (000) to access emergency services from your home phone or connected devices. You may not receive an emergency alert warning message. In planning for emergencies, consider taking the following actions: as part of your emergency plan, think about what you will do and what your options may be to get help if you need it make sure your mobile phone is fully charged, and have a charged power pack as a back up connecting with your neighbours before, during and after an event is important; you may need to rely on each other for help consider a number of alternate options to keep informed during emergencies, such as listening to local ABC Radio include a battery powered radio in your emergency kit purchase basic supplies and fuel your car as banking and electronic purchasing services may not be available during emergencies Helpful links Prepare for an emergency, https://www.nbnco.com.au//what-hap/emergencies-and-outages What happens in a power blackout, https://www.nbnco.com.au/l/what-happens-in-a-power-blackout What Services will be switched off when NBN comes to your area, https://www.nbnco.com.au//services-that-will-be-switched-o Australian Communications and Media Authority, https://www.acma.gov.au.

06.01.2022 It's always the best thing to call 000 rather than try to get in touch with a member of the Brigade. This explains why.

06.01.2022 If you can smell smoke.....

06.01.2022 The siren this morning was for a firecall to attend to some smouldering logs in the trees well to the north of the Woodgate Road about 2km west of Heidkes Road, still smoking after an approved hazard reduction burn yesterday. But better safe than sorry, Always call 000 if you are worried about fire. And a reminder that the siren is only to call in Brigade members, not sharks on the beach.

06.01.2022 You better watch out You better not cry You better not pout I'm telling you why Santa Claus is coming to Woodgate!... Santa hits the streets of Woodgate tomorrow afternoon - when you hear the sirens don't worry, not a fire (we hope - it has been raining) no sharks (don't leave the water), no tsunami (no need to run for the hills). ITS SANTA! Santa's visit to Woodgate is proudly supported by the following local businesses and organisations: A1 Realty Woodgate Beach Camera Club Woodgate Beach Community Events First National Real Estate Woodgate Men's Shed Inc Woodgate Realty Woodgate Residents Association Serenity Cove Café Woodgate Beach Tennis Club Woodgate Beach Houses Woodgate Beach Hotel Woodgate Beach Tourist Park Woodgate Club Woodgate Beach General Store Woodgate Beach Friendly Grocer We thank them all! And something to watch while you wait! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RcV8INh0d7g

04.01.2022 As camping season approaches something to think about, and remember, no fires on the beach at Woodgate, please,

04.01.2022 Check out 4660!

02.01.2022 Congratulations to our local SES brothers. Well done Charles and Kieran!

01.01.2022 Another update 12 months on.

01.01.2022 Small grass fire this afternoon on a rural block on Heidkes Road near its junction with the Woodgate Road. Our quick response plus assistance from Goodwood Brigade and a passing QPWS team member meant that it was quickly extinguished. And it was the first firecall for two of our newer members!

01.01.2022 While our rural brigade will be called and we will try to assist if you have a house fire it is worth remembering that the nearest brigades that are properly trained and equipped to deal with it are at least 40 to 50 minutes away in either Childers or Bundaberg! As well as a Bushfire Preparedness Plan you should have a Fire Escape Plan which needs to be reviewed regularly.

01.01.2022 When we are at a fire it is very reassuring to see these guys up above us. #M1Helicopters
