24.01.2022 Perth is suffering a cold snap of weather, especially early in the mornings! With the colder weather some people may suffer from chilblains. They are red, blue or white swollen patches that can get very itchy! Prevention includes: 1. Avoiding exposure to cold for long periods. 2. Wearing woollen socks and well fitted shoes. 3. Layering! Wear several layers of clothes to stay warm all over.... 4. Gentle exercise such as walking. See one of our Podiatrists today for more advice. http://woodlandspodiatry.com.au

23.01.2022 #1 Your foot contains 26 bones, 33 joints, more than 100 tendons, muscles, and ligaments, and a whopping 250,000 sweat glands? #2 After a baby is born, the obstetrician usually checks for 10 little fingers and 10 little toes. But occasionally, a surprise may turn up...an extra digit (or two). This is known as Polydactylism, and the condition is reported in about 1-2 of every 1,000 children. The more the merrier we say! #3 Compared with fingernails, toenails grow much more slo...wly, (about 1 mm per month.) It takes at least five to six months to grow an entirely new toenail. #4 Your toenails hold all kinds of clues to your overall health, including whether youre anaemic, (spoon-shaped indentations,) or have poor blood circulation, (hairless toes) or psoriasis, (pits in the nail surface.) #4 We all know feet can smell. It is no wonder, as each foot contains about 250,000 sweat glands. While the sweat itself doesnt smell, socks and shoes can trap odor-causing bacteria, which thrive in dark, damp environments. #5 Animals can be divided into, plantigrades, creatures that walk on the whole of their feet, i.e., people, bears, baboons, alligators and frogs and digitigrade, creatures that walk on their toes i.e., dogs, cats and birds. #6 Butterflies taste with their feet and elephants use their feet to hear, (they pick up vibrations of the earth through their soles.)

22.01.2022 Your feet contain one quarter of the bones in your entire body! All the more reason to keep your feet happy and healthy! Dont leave sore toes, twisted ankles or ingrown toenails untreated, call your Podiatrist today. http://woodlandspodiatry.com.au

14.01.2022 Let’s talk about shoes for growing feet. It is vital that shoes fit growing feet properly so as not cause problems in later life. Here are some simple tips for choosing shoes for your child: 1. There should be a thumb width between the longest toe and end of the shoe for correct length.... 2. You should be able to pinch the top of the shoe between the laces and the toes for correct width. 3. Choose a breathable material and ensure there’s a good fastener for a stable fit. 4. Get your child’s feet measured there are more and more retail stores that specialise in children’s footwear, please use them! See more

11.01.2022 Whether youre a long-distance runner or you just spend most of the day standing, coming home to tired and sore feet can leave you searching for relief. If you dont have access to a foot spa, stretching exercises are one of your best bets for getting temporary relief of your minor foot pain. Stretching your feet will also help to prevent injury. Here are some stretching exercises to get you started Plantar Fasciitis Stretch - To stretch out the plantar fascia, sit on the f...loor with your knee bent and grab the toes of your foot with one hand. Slowly bend back your toes with your hand and hold for 10 to 15 seconds. Step Stretch - Find a step or elevated surface that can support your weight. Stand with your toes on the step and your heels hanging over the edge. Slowly lower your body so your heels dip down below the edge of the step and hold for 10 to 15 seconds. Foot Roll stretch - Take a golf or tennis ball, and roll it back and forth from your toes to your heels 10 times. Ankle Circles - Sit or lie on the floor with your leg extended and your ankle elevated slightly off the floor. Slowly turn your ankle in a clockwise fashion 10 times. Reverse the ankle circles by turning your ankle counter-clockwise 10 times A little stretching goes a long way and can prevent injuries. So keep stretching your feet!
