21.01.2022 DON'T PAT THE BAT! HNE Health is reminding our communities to avoid handling bats. Bat bites and scratches can result in people being infected with Lyssavirus,... which is related to the rabies virus and can be lethal. If someone is bitten or scratched by any type of bat, they should thoroughly clean the wound for at least five minutes, with soap and water as soon as possible, apply an antiseptic solution to help prevent infection and seek urgent medical advice. If you are injured by a bat, call your GP or the Population Health Unit on 1300 066 055.

16.01.2022 Bowel cancer affects men of all ages. 1 in 10 Aussie men will develop bowel cancer in their lifetime, and it is Australia's second biggest cancer killer. In its early stages bowel cancer often has no obvious symptoms; however, any of the following may be suggestive of bowel cancer: Persistent change in bowel habit (looser more diarrhoea-like bowel movements, constipation, or smaller more frequent bowel movements) Change in appearance of bowel movements... Blood in the bowel movement or rectal bleeding Unexplained tiredness, weakness or weight loss Abdominal pain, especially if severe A lump or pain in the rectum or anus Not everyone who experiences these symptoms has bowel cancer. Other medical conditions, some foods and certain medicines can also cause these changes. However, if you are experiencing any of the above symptoms for more than two weeks, don’t delay in talking to your GP about them. Early detection could save your life. See more

09.01.2022 Here are some simple steps you can take to reduce the risk of COVID-19.

07.01.2022 As many as one in in five expecting or new mums, and one in ten expecting or new dads will experience perinatal anxiety or depression during the pregnancy or af...ter birth. While this can be a difficult time for those involved, it is important to remember that having perinatal anxiety or depression does not make you a bad parent. Many women and men have come through this experience to find joy and fulfilment as a parent. You are not alone, and you don’t have to go through it alone. Throughout Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Awareness (PANDA) Week, we are encouraging new parents, family, and friends to have open and honest conversations about their mental health. If you’re concerned about your wellbeing, reach out to your midwife, General Practitioner, friends or family. Help and support is available and getting help early leads to a faster recovery. For more information visit www.panda.org.au #pandaweek #postnatalanxiety #postnataldepression
