04.01.2022 As the Director of Woods Furniture, a local Australian manufacturer of school furniture, I find it extremely disappointing that several state governments are putting our children at risk by allowing inferior imported products to be placed into our schools. Many of these products fail to meet the Australian Standard for educational furniture, as well as environmental Standards. Governments talk about value for money, but cheap imported products that fail within 12 - 24 months ...and end up in landfill, compared to quality local products, is far from obtaining value for money. Unfortunately, there are many companies that claim they are Australian manufacturers, but are actually only distributors of cheap inferior products from overseas. In recent times there have been many new schools built across Australia. Unfortunately, some of these schools have been furnished with inferior products from alternate suppliers which have started to fail. These schools have started approaching Woods to refurnish their classrooms as they know they will receive a quality product that is backed with a 10 year warranty. My suggestion to potential purchaser of any product, not only ask where it is made, but also ask to visit the manufacturing facility.
