True conservation is about balance and encouraging diversity, not the constant negative attitudes often peddled by the ill informed. 22.01.2022 Media Release: Fallow Deer The New Way SFFP Tasmania is urging the State Government to follow through with it commitment at the last State election to support... the Agriculture Sector and recreational hunters in developing a new plan regarding wild fallow deer management in Tasmania. The current proposal adopted and tabled by the highly regarded Tasmanian Deer Advisory Committee, (TDAC) is widely accepted by recreational hunters and the agriculture sector and is a leap forward in the progressive, ethical management of a valuable wildlife resource. This plan addresses many of the concerns of the 5,000 + Tasmanian recreational deer hunters and reduces the unnecessary bureaucratic demands put on farmers. It also allows the access to conservation and other sensitive area of land management for the removal or control of fallow deer. Also it does not comprise law enforcement of wildlife regulations, nor impact on the viability of current licensed commercial deer farming operations, which produces great Tassie produce. Extended seasons, targeted zoning areas with various allocated harvest limits is a balanced and proven approach to wildlife management having been utilised by leading wildlife agencies in countries like the USA. It is without question the way forward for Game Management in this State. SFFP urge the Tasmanian Game Council to pursue this plan as soon as practicable. END

22.01.2022 Every council in Australia should have been doing this years ago and we would not have the feral cat problem we do today! there are plenty of hunters and trappers out there willing to help! I for one am still pushing for funding even if it means it only covers my costs.. I trapped in and around waratah for 4 weeks and there were 17 feral cats taken.. a pretty alarming number. After contacting councils for permission to trap on council land (waste transfer stations/dump sites.... I still cant seem to get permission or anyone on council to back my concerns this is bloody outrageous!
