20.01.2022 Some food for thought With the drought effecting 60% of Qld, 95% of NSW and now starting to effect parts of Vic and SA. The impact to every day Australians is ...going to take effect in many ways. With most farmers who breed cattle, sheep, pigs and even chickens are destocking to only their breeders or in a lot of cases no stock what so ever. Leading to shortages of beef, lamb, pork and chicken which in turn will lead to increases in price for these products. Dairy cattle are also affected as with less feed available, less milk produced with some dairy farmers reporting up to 5lt per cow less milk per day. Which will affect the cost of dairy products. Crop like wheat etc are just not being produced as no rain in time for crops to grow. It is not only animal farmers effected, fruit and vegetable farmers are effected too as they have not received any rain so crop yields are the worst they have seen for years. Thus increase in prices as well. Australia is a major supplier for agricultural product overseas with 77% of our produce and products exported. People will say well just don't export lets feed our country first. If it was that simple we would, but if we don't maintain our exports other countries will step in and fill the gap left by our lack of exports. To tap back into these markets when we recover would be hard and costly (discounting), yes we will be forced to cut back some exports but we can not just stop. So this drought is not only effecting farmers but will in the end effect one and all. See more

12.01.2022 If anyone is wondering how this works, the process of buying from the bush is: 1. Find something you love. 2. Click through to that business' Instagram/Facebook... page. 3. If they have an online store, buy from there. If they don't, send them a direct message via Instagram/Facebook. They will then arrange the purchase. 4. They'll pop it in the post and you'll get a lovely piece of the bush in your mailbox. NB: We don't sell through this page. We are encouraging people to contact the business directly through their own website, social media or picking up the phone. Bush businesses are usually flexible and grateful!

03.01.2022 Why this drought will affect you. Every day, multiple times a day, I question if this campaign is of any benefit to anyone. Please, do not be mistaken that this... is a statement of "give me praise", this is a self reflection of insight into talking, visiting and caring for people who are terribly vulnerable, struggling and need so much more than a stranger who shares a meal or a cuppa with them. I am having sleepless nights, am disturbingly worried and can barely focus, not because I am directly effected by this drought, but because what I am seeing and hearing is traumatic. I can throw the towel in and go back to my holidays tomorrow. The opt out option is bloody easy in comparison to continuing with this campaign. Yet something greater lies ahead. I cannot comprehend how our Government is doing so little and that this isn't at the forefront of mainstream media right now. This drought is the most important issue facing our nation. Personally I believe it is catastrophic and I also kind of think that the Government knows this and have chucked it in the too hard basket... The truth is, this drought may not directly affect those who live in metropolitan Australia right now, but give it time. On a weekly basis I see segments in the media on how to cut back costs on groceries and the high cost of living in the city, but I guarantee, in a very short time, it will be much worse. The cost of eating therefore surviving is going to rise, even if the drought is broken next month. The cost of meat, fresh produce, dairy, cereals, all grains etc will go up. Even when it rains and the paddocks replenish to a bright green and the financial weight of this drought eases for producers, the flow on effects of what is immediately happening will still be felt, possibly not just for months, but dare I say, for years. In the minimal areas that crops have germinated and grown in our country, this fodder either goes interstate to feed livestock or for human consumption. The limited supply of yields will soon take effect. It has to. The ol' supply and demand scale will be felt by the hip pockets of many. For all of those graziers who have had no choice but to minimise their livestock herd numbers or totally de-stock, they cannot simply buy more cattle tomorrow. The turn around time to breed a calf and have it grow to an age to also breed is 3-4 years. As the country's stock numbers quickly decline, your meat prices are going to go up. Yet again, we see the supply and demand scale. By the time the cost of food has risen, and hopefully it has rained, it may simply be too late for any city folk to understand and connect the dots as to why the cost of their food has risen, because, hey, the drought is broken. Like anything though, when the cost to supply and produce a product goes up or a product is in low supply, the difference has to be made up somewhere. For all of you that naively believe this drought does not affect you, I'll touch base with you again soon. Start saving, you're going to need it.
