24.01.2022 Part of the preparation for servicing a watch movement is selecting and adjusting the correct screwdrivers. For servicing this vintage Rolex movement, the majority of screws will be removed using a blade that is 1.10mm in diameter. Depending on the calibre of movement, the screw slots will differ in width. In this case, I have sharpened and shaped the blade so that it fits perfectly into the screw slot, allowing no wiggle so as to produce evenly distributed pressure across the entire inner surface of the slot and therefore not distort and damage the screw. It also reduces the chances of the blade slipping out of the screw slot and scratching the surrounding components. This operation of checking and adjusting the screwdriver blades is done before every movement service in order to preserve the condition of the movement.
