20.01.2022 Eggs made by WSQ members for the students of grades 4 and 5 at Greenslopes State School to decorate. The decorated eggs will be displayed at the WSQ Open Weekend of 23 and 24 March.

19.01.2022 On Saturday, I did a demonstration at Woodturners Society of Queensland. I repurposed an old wooden carpet bowl into a lidded container. The wood is called lignum vitae.

16.01.2022 WSQ will opening up for limited workshop sessions, starting Tuesday 26 May. Sessions are limited to 10 members, including convenors, with only 8 lathes in operation. Sessions must be pre-booked. The Management Committee has approved a Covid-19 Safe Plan, with details of social distancing and hygiene control measures. The plan has been e-mailed to members, with a hard copy available in the workshop.

13.01.2022 WSQ was founded on 23 June 1979. The 40th Birthday cake was cut by Foundation members Gary Beck and John Linek, with Terri Butler (federal MP for Griffith), Joe Kelly (Qld MP for Greenslopes) and Fiona Cunningham (Councillor for Cooparoo Ward) looking on.

10.01.2022 My latest woodturning project - a standard lamp made from native cherry. I made it for a client who approached WSQ through our Facebook page.



09.01.2022 To reduce the spread of coronavirus in our community, WSQ has shut down all events and activities for 4 weeks from 21 March.

09.01.2022 WSQ today hosted a visit from 8 residents of Sunnybank Hills Aged Care Residence and their carers, Lauren and Jacinta. The visitors included WSQ Past President (2003-04) and Life Member, Jack (John) Turner. Jacks lasting legacy to WSQ is the old kitchen that Jack built in the early days of WSQ, remembered as "Turners Retreat".

05.01.2022 WSQ's Annual Christmas Woodturning Exhibition is on the weekend of 28-29 November, Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens Auditorium, 9 am to 4 pm. Free entry.

04.01.2022 WSQ currently has a display of woodturned items in the Kenmore Library. The display continues until 26 February, when it will be moved to Everton Park. Another display will be in Logan West Library from 26 February to 2 April.

03.01.2022 One of our many wodnderful library displays, featuring woodturning, phyrography and wooden toys all made by our talented woodworkers.



02.01.2022 WSQ normally holds a Woodturning Sales and Exhibition Event at Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens in August. The Exhibition scheduled for 8-9 August this year has been cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic.
