20.01.2022 The Year 5/6 students in Room 12 and 13 made their own liquid hand soap. Then they created a poster and wrote a text to persuade their audience why their product is the best on the market!

19.01.2022 Monsters love colours (so do we). Today in room 3 we read monsters love colours. The monsters in this book introduce their favourite colour. They use primary colours to create secondary colours. Did you know monsters love to scribble, mix, dance and wiggle. Why? Because monsters love to make new colours! ... We made our scribble monster using crayons to identify, explore and make new colours.

18.01.2022 Pyjama Day isn’t complete without blanket forts! Yesterday all students in rooms 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 participated in a STEM Blanket Fort Building Challenge. They showed amazing creativity, collaboration, communication, designing and problem solving skills.

14.01.2022 Woodville Primary was invited to host the Life FM 1079 radio van at our school today to promote our wonderful school, the students, learning programs and especially our Pastoral Care Worker Kathy and how she contributes to our school community. Our theme this year is ‘KINDNESS’ so share a little kindness wherever you are. Thanks to Life FM 1079 and the SMG group for this opportunity to showcase our school.

12.01.2022 Exploring patterns in room 3 We had a range of equipment to choose from. The students were asked to make a pattern. We discussed how we know if something is a pattern and how they know what comes next. We decided something is a pattern if it’s repeated at least twice. ... The students had to identify the ‘core unit’ of their pattern. The core unit is what we are calling the repeating part of our pattern. See more

05.01.2022 Fee Fi Fo Fum, There was a lot of measuring to be done! In room 3 we are learning how to measure using non-standard units. We had a variety of activities to explore. We measured many different characters or items from Jack and the Beanstalk including Jack, his mother, the giant, the goose and the golden egg. We used beans to measure how tall they were, then we counted and recorded this amount. We also had a beanstalk challenge we were had to make a beanstalk that was 3,5 or 7... cubes tall. First, we had to count out the appropriate number of cubes. Next, we had to make our beanstalk using playdough and then we had to measure our beanstalk against our stack of cubes. Fee Fi Fo Fum, There was some problem solving to be done! Some beanstalks were to short and some were too tall so we had to problem solve to find a solution! Fee Fi Fo Fum, Measuring things is so much fun! Next week we have more measurement activities planned such as a castle building challenge. We will also be using giant's footprints to measure ourselves and various objects around the classroom such as table, chairs, smartboard etc. Lots of hands-on fun and engagement.

03.01.2022 On Friday 21st of February, German movie production company Schiwago came to Woodville Primary School to shoot a small part of a large made for television movie titled Murray River Outback Odyssey. Based on a girl name Kira and her mother, it’s a story of adventure featuring the River Murray and outback scenes. Today’s shoot featured a sports day scene starring Kira and about 20 student extras. Cast and crew worked all day for approximately 4 minutes of film. The cr...ew and actors head off to Port Augusta tomorrow and then on the Coober Pedy and the car park will return to normal after being an outside broadcasting nerve centre with 10 large trucks, a food station and even a small eating area for the actors and crew. Many classes took the opportunity to watch the process of making a film. The endless rehearsals, large film crew and technical equipment. A great learning experience for our students. The films are viewed by over 4 million viewers in Germany. We’re now not only a great school but a famous movie location!! See more

03.01.2022 Learning to write is a gradual process over a long period of time. There are a lot of skills involved such as learning to control finger and hand movements; connecting the letter with a sound in their heads; memory and confidence. In Room 3 we find unusual, fun and engaging ways topractice our writing skills. Last week we wrote in shaving cream! It's wonderfully messy but very clean. The children were a little hesitant at first. They probably thought I had gone crazy when I ...started to squirt shaving cream on their tables! But once they got over the initial shock, they loved the sensory aspect to this task. Wepracticed writing the sounds we had learned and our names with our pointing finger. Using shaving cream makes it easy to erase a mistake by smearing the shaving cream. It is also easy for me to support their learning by could guide their hands to form the letter/number/word correctly if needed. I could quickly write an example in the shaving cream for them to copy. This is building knowledge, confidence, growth mindset and risk taking skills all while having fun. See more
