24.01.2022 Moved our cows into a new paddock on the weekend - always nice to spend some time with Lil Brett, hes still such a smoocher :)

24.01.2022 Was doing a PEMF treatment on one of the young horses I am starting. Mentally and emotionally she is doing great but physically she is struggling in her hindqu...arters. Been doing lots of different bodywork on her and making progress but this was so interesting with the pulse machine. This big indent in the muscle showed up while pulsing and the twitching movement continued for about 10 mins after I stopped pulsing. Same thing happened in a similar area on both sides. Afterwards she was so sleepy and a bit wobbly to walk. Hoping it makes a big difference for her. Helping horses physical bodies is just as important as the training. Being ridden is a big ask for a horse physically. I dont think most people actually appreciate what carrying a rider means for the horse and if their body is not right and slowly strengthened to carry a rider it is very difficult for them. Many people just assume that because they are a big strong animal it is easy for them. But I dont believe thats the case. If we want to ride them, taking care of their physical body is a big responsibility for us. Horses cant give us what we want until we give them what they need.

23.01.2022 Early bird special ends soon. Pm me for any details

22.01.2022 Thought for the Day. Something that I found in an old file on my computer from 2013. I remember writing it and that Carol and I thought it would be good to wri...te a full article on the theme at some point. I did go on to write the Super-Natural-Horse article which is along the same lines, but this kind of sums things up. ******************************************************************** The combined influence of management, training, riding and saddling creates anything from Acquired Equine Dis-ability to Acquired Equine Xtr-ability in ridden horses. Acquired Dis-ability is the status of most ridden horses and therefore, usually goes unnoticed and unchallenged. Examples are: Shortness of stride, crookedness, distorted movement and posture to accommodate restrictions and discomfort. Overloading of the forelimbs. Many lameness issues. Many training issues. Horse looks worse for being ridden. Less muscle, worse posture, more tension and more compensatory patterns of uneven bio-mechanics. Soft tissues often tight and in danger of being over-stressed. Poor blood supply, particularly effecting the gut and lower limbs and feet. Incorrect and unnatural loading of joints creating stress, long term wear and the risk of catastrophic break down. The result of taking horses down this path is, discomfort, behavioural problems, lameness, ill health, ongoing need for drug and/or surgical intervention and often, early euthanasia. Acquired Xtr-ability is the target for anyone and everyone who has the welfare of the ridden horse at heart. Examples are: Versatility in coping with many varied terrains, many different disciplines from flat work to cross country. Resistance to infection. Soundness, Progressive training seems easy. Horse looks better for being ridden. More muscle, better posture even between ridden sessions, even patterns of natural tone in the body. Soft tissues healthy and elastic, with good blood supply. Joints healthy and used in the way nature/evolution has designed them to be used. The ultimate prize for taking this road is helping the horse to achieve a state of health, expression, athleticism, soundness and versatility that he can rarely, if ever, achieve in the natural state. Neutral (BALANCE) Point!!! This is somewhere between the two extremes described above. It is a a state of being in the ridden horse that is what everyone who has any influence on that horse, needs to see as their minimum benchmark. It is a state where the human invention that we call riding is done in a way that DOES NO HARM.

20.01.2022 The more deeply grounded and centered that we become, as I teach in the clinics, the more we can truly operate from our heart space with purity and love. The co...herence talked about in this article is the same as the unification of Mind, body and spirit as happens when we are truly centered. In these states we create a positive energy field to connect and communicate with our horses in. The Heart Math Institute has done some great research on energy fields and gives some visuals for what we talk about in the clinics. Right at the end of this article it talks very briefly about how our energy fields can influence the planet. Which is why our prayers/ meditations for rain or whatever it is that we want are important. See more

20.01.2022 For those of you attended Nooras clinics here a few years back, or anyone interested, this would be a very special Body Awareness experience.

15.01.2022 What a joy it is to ride a horse who is a friend and willing partner. These horses look out for you, you are safe on them, they are a pleasure to be around and ...feel wonderful to ride. They come up to get caught and they are honest and reliable. They are not robots and have personality plus, they communicate with you and have a magnificent, majestic presence. Where do you find horses like these? They cant really be bought. You find them in the hands of people that have had the dream to have an incredible relationship with a horse and who have also had the unrelenting commitment and dedication, to develop their knowledge and skills so they could develop such a partnership. I can teach you how to develop this partnership in my courses. I have spent all my life learning and experimenting with how to build partnerships like this looking for the kindest possible ways to work with and ride horses. With my hard earned knowledge, I can fast track you so it doesnt have to take you 40 odd years to get there, however you still have to take action and do the work to develop yourself and put the time in with your horse. There is no point pretending it all just instantly happens, it requires ongoing commitment and dedication, but it is so worth the effort. Fast track at my courses. The fastest route of all is at my 1 - 6 week residential courses at Alchemy Place MOONBI. Due to all the Corona Virus Chaos this year we still have some spots available. Starts August 28th. http://www.melfleming.com.au/archives/703 Other courses where you can get started are :- Central Coast Aug 22-24 http://www.melfleming.com.au/archives/6657 Mt Mee Sunshine Coast QLD Oct 16-18 http://www.melfleming.com.au/archives/6273 Busselton WA Dec 12-14 http://www.melfleming.com.au/archives/5768 I will look forward to seeing you there Mel

09.01.2022 The horse racing industry will no doubt be hoping that this latest scandal just blows over... but caring people across Australia (and around the world) are un...iting to make sure that doesnt happen If you havent already, please support the tireless work of our friends at Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses by taking the pledge to never bet on racing cruelty: http://animalsaus.org/DNh and by sharing this heartbreaking story. Together we can keep the spotlight shining right where the racing industry would want it least -- and right where their victims, the animals, need it most

08.01.2022 Big thanks to Jill Davies from Feed Your Steed and Jo Wallace from Thompson & Redwood for all the info on horse digestion and gut health. Look forward to trying a few new products :)

04.01.2022 HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE !!!!!! Best wishes to you all. Let’s make 2021 a great year. Let’s choose it to be that way and take action to make it so.... My horsemanship goal is to bring out the best in horses and help them shine. To bring out the magnificence in the horses we have to first bring out the magnificence in ourselves. What I love about this pic above is that the horse is looking majestic and magnificent. He is a students horse that I rode in a clinic recently. The picture depicts powerful magnificence. I helped his spirit come out and for him to be able to express himself more fully, mentally, emotionally and physically. I want my horses to be calm and connected, brave, confident, powerful, spirited, expressive, dignified, strong, athletic, healthy, fun loving, joyful, happy, graceful, smart and to be good thinkers... to name just a few traits. Remember, we need to Be the change that we want to see in our horse. Truly great horsemanship is a way of being - who we are and how we are, in honesty and authenticity. It is about developing our mental, emotional and physical fitness. It encompasses all aspects of mind, body and spirit. Who is up for the challenge ? What are your horsemanship goals ? I am looking forward to becoming or continuing to be your coach in this incredible journey of horsemanship. Follow your heart, listen to your gut, develop your physical skills so you can be a great rider (if you choose to ride) and let’s action Leadership with Love and kindness in our horsemanship and our lives. HAPPY NEW YEAR Mel X
