24.01.2022 Making progress on the pergola in Leura. Ready for roofing next week

23.01.2022 We have poured the slab for the new art studio in Katoomba. The slab on this job will be the finished floor and has a beautiful burnished finish. This leaves a very smooth and naturally patterned look on the slab. To ensure that the slab stays looking this good during the construction period, we have a few layers of protection. The geo-tech and black plastic will hold the moisture in the slab to make sure it hardens as best as it can. We then have a layer of plywood to protect the slab from any falling objects during the build. Finally we have a huge tarp that will remain and be cut out at the end of the job. This will keep any water, and potential staining from the hardwood and steel, off the slab during the construction process.

23.01.2022 Progress shots of Wentworth Falls. The whole house has now been re-clad with modern fibro weather boards and fire resistant insulation. The new decks are nearly completely tiled and ready for the glass ballustrade.

23.01.2022 Today we went back to the pergola in Leura to install the custom verandah brackets. This neat little pergola is full of character and nice finishes to match in with the existing building. All ready for painting and some summer lunches.

23.01.2022 A few progress shots of the new Wentworth Falls job. We have removed the old house supports and the existing house is now fully supported by the new frame. We have also just started on the big steel deck frame.

22.01.2022 A few more progress shots from Hazelbrook. The gyprock is now finished, wet areas are waterproofed and the kitchen cabinets are in.

22.01.2022 Today we said goodbye to the scaffold at our project in Hazelbrook. Its great to be able to see how this place is taking shape and appreciate the finished look of the outside

22.01.2022 Weve had a busy couple of weeks at Hazelbrook. All of the framing is now complete, including the curved roof which provided a challenging couple of days. The bricks are now laid up to scaffold height and the scaffolding is in place.

21.01.2022 The gyprock is nearly complete at the Katoomba art studio. Nearly time for the finishing touches before we hand this one over

19.01.2022 Hand over time at the Art Studio in Katoomba. This was a very interesting and challenging build structurally, as we tried to keep everything as neat and minimalist as possible with such high walls and so much glass. The end result is better than anyone expected and we wish the owners all the best with their new studio/gallery.

19.01.2022 This is a repair job we recently finished in Megalong. The old roofing had deteriorated and had rotting timber. The old timber posts had rotted away at the base so we propped the roof and replaced the posts with these newer merbau posts.

17.01.2022 Getting started on the wall frames at the Katoomba art studio. These frames are about 5 metres at the high point. As a result we need to attach steel posts to every 2nd stud, with bolts at every 500mm

14.01.2022 The new house at Hazelbrook is now finished and ready for the owners to move in. This was such an interesting and challenging project with stange angles, curves and split levels with retaining walls. A big thank you to everyone that worked on this project, everything here looks amazing.

13.01.2022 We have just completed re-cladding this mountains cottage. After the asbestos cladding was safely removed, the owners took the opportunity to install new insulation throughout the building. A few new windows and Rusticated treated pine weather boards has really rejuvinated this lovely old cottage.

13.01.2022 The Hazelbrook job is starting to take shape. The block section will become a storeroom and also support the suspended slab above. The old garage slab and new laundry slab have been polished and look great.

12.01.2022 The suspended deck slab over the store room is ready for concrete on Monday. The owners have decided to have a Honed finish on the concrete deck to expose the aggregate but maintain some grip. This resulted in needing to upgrade the steel reinforcement in the slab to reduce cracking. The drainage and waterproofing behind the storeroom has also been completed.

12.01.2022 Some progress shots of the art studio in Katoomba. The Blackbutt post and beam wall has been checked out for the double glazing. This was a challenging but rewarding structure to build as we have kept all of the fixings and tie-downs concealed while making sure the stucture meets the engineering requirements for such a large load bearing wall. There are also some noticeably large pieces of steel in the other parts of the building, that have provided some challenges on a site with no vehicle access.

12.01.2022 The concreters are still hard at it on the job in Wentworth Falls. Working to get the burnished finish on the slab is proving difficult in this cool mountains weather

12.01.2022 Getting the frames up at the Leura job. The external walls on the main room stick up past the roof frame to create a parapet wall above the roof. The big opening in the roof structure is to make room for a solar powered skylight which will direct sun into the main room and also increase the ventilation

11.01.2022 Getting the ground work sorted on our new job in Hazelbrook. This job will see the under house garage converted into a rumpus room with a new bathroom as well as a new storage room and deck wrapped around the house.

10.01.2022 A bit of a sneak peak at the Wentworth Falls job that will be completed next week. This is the barn style door that we made up from some rough sawn slabs that the customer had sourced. Everything was dressed down and biscuit joined on site to fit into a custom built steel frame with soft close rollers. The end result is beautiful and really adds to the room. Stay tuned for some final photos of this whole job

10.01.2022 We have finished the steel work and started on the framing for our job in Wentworth Falls. The steel awning will have no posts when it is finished and will be supported by the steel frame and the roof frame from the main building. There are also some interesting angles and roof lines in the extension at the rear of the existing building.

10.01.2022 It was great today to be a part of the Blue Mountains Eco Home Tour. For the second year in a row we had the opportunity to show one of our projects to over 30 people. It was also great to hear from 2 of the Blue Mountains leading architects about solar passive principles and how they are being applied in this design.

09.01.2022 This art studio in Katoomba is nearly locked up and is looking amazing. The double glazed and hardwood wall stands almost 5 metres from the floor and lets in an incredible amount of light. The rails have been installed for the big entry doors that are currently being built.

08.01.2022 Getting started on this freestanding pergola in Leura

08.01.2022 This garage conversion in Blackheath has finished off nicely. The original footprint has remained the same but with the use of canterlevered bays, we have been able to increase the internal size. The studio now has a living area, ensuite, walk-in robe and bedroom complete with a bay window seat.

08.01.2022 The studio in Leura is now complete. This studio utilised the empty space behind the existing garage. The different materials and finishes give this small building so much character and detail. The solar passive design by the architect ensures sun through the skylight and shading provided by the large awning and skylight blind.

08.01.2022 Today I had the pleasure of showcasing our Wentworth Falls extension to around 50 participants of the Blue Mountains ECOhomes tour. It was a great opportunity to talk about the advantages of renovating and extending as well as discuss the use of light and passive solar designs.

07.01.2022 The slab is ready to be poured tomorrow morning in Wentworth Falls. The existing house required a fair amount of underpinning and termite protection to try and bring it up to todays standards. All of the purple pipes in the main slab are part of the hydronic heating system which will keep the exposed slab nice and warm during the winter months.

06.01.2022 The Blackheath house is coming along nicely and we have just packed the site down for our Christmas break. Ready to get on with the first floor frames and the big hardwood posts and beams when we get back in the new year.

06.01.2022 Our new job in Wentworth Falls, all ready for the asbestos removalists on Monday. This job will see part of the existing house demolished to make way for a new bathroom and laundry. There will also be a large living and new kitchen room, projecting from the side of the house at a 30 degree angle, to make the most of the natural light

06.01.2022 We are finishing up at the extension/renovation in Wentworth Falls. This job grew as the owners decided that this was a great opportunity to rejuvinate the whole house, with new fire rated cladding and remove all of the old asbestos. The inside also has all new flooring, kitchen, doors and architraves plus a fresh paint job and new ducted heating and cooling. The extension on this job utilised the steep block by adding rooms underneath the existing building, all without disturbing the existing building. The new decks and balustrade really allow the owners to soak up that amazing view.

05.01.2022 The new Wentworth Falls job is moving along. All of the internal drainage has been installed and the footing for the retaining wall has been concreted.

04.01.2022 The extension in Wentworth Falls is all wrapped up for the holidays. Ready for the roofing and re-cladding in the new year.

02.01.2022 A whole lotta timber. This week we built the ground floor frames at the Blackheath house. Getting ready for Posistrut floor joists and some HUGE hardwood posts and beams before we get onto the next level.

01.01.2022 The job at Leura is ready for roofing and the deck frame is nearly complete

01.01.2022 Today we got started on the steel floor frame for this new studio in Leura. This architecturally designed studio makes the most of the natural light available and will use a number of different external and internal finishes.

01.01.2022 This wonderful project at Wentworth Falls has come to an end and the result speaks for itself. This extension incorporates the best in passive solar window layout together with a temperature moderating concrete slab equipped with hydronic heating to help during winter. The open space living area has a beautiful kitchen, library and a canterlevered window seat that takes in the large garden. The angle of the extension also opens up to the warm northern sun and creates a private courtyard off the main living area. This was a very enjoyable project to work on and I wish the owners all the best with their new space
