23.01.2022 Happy Birthday to IWTO! This year, The International Wool Textile Organisation celebrates 90 years. See their original post @international_wool to learn more about their objectives and the incredible legacy the organisation has in the wool industry. The IWTO resources form a solid foundation with my school presentations to the students about wool (as part of the @youngfarmingchampions )and a version of their supply chain schematic has been recreated on the windows of wher...e I work at the Elders National Wool Selling Centre in Melbourne. I have been fortunate to take part in the amazing opportunity created through the IWTO Young Professionals Program, for the next generation to learn from the best in the business. I still have the business card from Secretary General, Dalena White when I met her in Melbourne for Wool Week (when I grow up, can I be like her?). On the back, she had written about the YP Program at IWTO 2018, Hong Kong. At the time, I thought it was out of my reach professionally to attend - but with the support of Elders and acceptance into the YP Program, I soon found myself having my woolly mind completely expanded and share all I’d learnt at every opportunity- and there were many! This year, I was due to attend in IWTO 2020 in Tongxiang as part of my Broker Award but due to COVID that has been postponed. The Congress was relocated to Brussels and all the presentations were available for free online -- be sure to check them out via the their bio link. Thank you for the impact you have had on my career in wool and look forward to one day being able to meet again in person! #milestone #woolindustry #naturalfibre #celebrate #nextgen #choosewool #wooltextiles #supplychain #gratitudeattitude #happybirthdaytoyou #ninetyyearsyoung

17.01.2022 #throwbackthursday 18 months ago, I started a passion project: a blog promoting wool as the natural fibre for today - every day - by sharing online reviews on wool items I have & use. Today, it's No. 35 on Feedspot.com Top 75 Sustainable Fashion 2020 blog list! www.samanthawan.com.au As a millennial working in early stages of the wool supply chain (raw/greasy wool), I am passionate about wool and see firsthand what happens when demand wanes - when this amazing natural fibre... slows on its journey to be turned into clothing (+ more). I know how the natural benefits of wool elevate my level of living, which is so important during these uncertain times. Wool has no equal and though they try, no synthetic can copy all these benefits into one package - nature does it best. But even though I can drop the hammer at a wool auction, it's only by consuming wool as a product can that wool truly be sold. Wool For Every Day started with hearing the need and a bit of a push from a supportive community and the feedback has been fantastic. I would love to hear your thoughts or ideas on how I can can spotlight wool and grow this project! It's been a super 18 months of learning with more highs than lows, though not without them. Want to hear more? 14.01.2022 It's COLD!! Between cold floors or just naturally cold extremities, feet and toes are bearing the brunt of this cold wintery change. It doesn't even matter how warm your shoes say they are. Wool socks are a top rated and easily accessible way to utilise the natural capabilities of wool. Take a big step towards slow-fashion by investing in the health of your feet by choosing a natural fibre. Now while I'm partial to the Icebreaker wool socks, I'm opening my eyes to the huge... range of Australian made alternatives to invest in. 12.01.2022 THANK YOU! ----- In February, Wool For Every Day processed a donation of $85 to the Michael Manion Wool Industry Foundation as part of its first Pay It Forward, In Wool campaign. As as special advisor to the Foundation, Sam knows every little bit counts! ----... How did it work? Sam shared reviews for wool products she personally rates - after reading, you decided that she was onto a good thing and made a purchase via the direct links at www.samanthawan.com.au - at no additional cost to you, a small commission was paid out and went towards assisting with funding Wool For Every Day, as an online wool awareness and promotion project. For the last 6 months this has gone towards the wool industry charity foundation. Unfortunately, with the shops and brands impacted heavily with COVID - these small commissions are much, much smaller or have disappeared altogether. Wool For Every Day will continue to promote wool and wool products and is due to release its first custom designed enamel pin shortly. 10.01.2022 April 2011, Melbourne Wool Selling Centre . I was an ag science undergrad, at the Melbourne Wool Selling for the face to face segment of my @uneagriculture wool units - in awe of the wool industry, the open-cry auctions, the importance of this place in the wool industry pipeline - discretely trying to snap photos without looking like a tourist but no photo would hold that earthy lanolin smell all around.. A year later, I started as a Wool Techical Support Officer with ...Elders As a Gen Y, apparently 2 years is the average span for a job. 8 years on and its my second home and every day I count myself pretty fortunate (yep, corny) - no day is ever the same, its challenging but it makes you stretch that bit further and its wool and theres no finer feeling.
09.01.2022 With wool fitting firmly into sustainable living, it seemed only a matter of time before my quest for breaking the stigma on wearing wool crossed into other natural products.. . Meet the reusable bamboo straw from Little Green Panda I was interested to see they use wheat and bamboo and sugarcane - plant based straws a natural alternative to metal AND plastic straws! . Before purchasing I asked about moves toward Australian farms being used for these products and wa...s assured it was something they were working towards. . I was later super super excited to see Little Green Panda named in the SproutX 2020 cohort driven to be the worlds largest product of single-use products from agricultural wastes. . This was only my first use but look forward to sharing more of my 2 reusable bamboos and its handy cloth carry (2 diameters and comes with a little pipe cleaner!) . Are you as curious as I am? 05.01.2022 One of my small joys are the exchanges with my sister that start with Your. Mother. I had to share this one because of course, its a wool one. Its also a bit whoops, but yay! #sorrynotsorry Influencing my own mother in wool is a bit of a win because in our family, we dont influence our parents. Ive tried. Weve tried. It doesnt work. ... The best example of one of these failings in the kindest way is that I live in Melbourne, 5 mins from shops and I have had plenty of practice explaining why theres no need to ship me chinese sauces, mix packets and chocolate. But Mum knows best and today a number of blocks and bags of chocolate arrived for me in the post. So the fact that Mum & I are on the same page when it comes to choosing wool and buying wool is just the best win I WOOL (&my mum does too) - WOOL YOU? #iwoolwoolyou #loveyourmum #siblinglove #choosewool #lovewool #comfy #buyoncebuywell #sustainablefashion #merinowool #merinoclothing #naturalfibres #slowfashion #influencer #specialmoments #smalljoys

01.01.2022 Australian made knitwear from uimi has been on my wish list and radar for a while. They’re based in Melbourne (like me!) and have just released their new Essentials collection, Merino wool 2020 with pre-order open now, be sure to check it out. There’s something special about coming across a beautifully crafted woolly piece. The stunning colour of this one caught my eye and I had to ask more so I’m excited to introduce you to our guest reviewer Rachael! Rachael shares that s...ame joy and awe that I have when it comes to wool. Our paths crossed at a wool social event in Melbourne when she was working in the warehousing side of wool and reconnected on Instagram. Rachael didn’t let ‘no’s get her down and persisted to carve out her path in the wool industry and is a photographer with a great eye for capturing special moments (see her photos on Instagram @rmimages_). She is a wool classer who’s not afraid of hard work now back on farm with her partner Tom, currently running a mixed enterprise of cropping, Merino and Crossbred sheep and Angus cattle.....
