17.01.2022 WILD ABOUT WOOLI & MINNIE WATER The Yuraygir Coastal Walk is a glorious way to explore our beautiful Clarence coastline. The southern section from Wooli to Red ...Rock (14.2km) is where you can truly get away from it all and immerse yourself in the remote, untouched natural beauty that Yuraygir National Park has to offer. The walk starts by crossing the Wooli Wooli River. To make the river crossing you will need to organize the trip with Wooli River Boat Hire & Eco Tours (www.wooliriverboathire.com.au). Rugged is certainly the word for the walk, with long stretches of rock platforms for the first 5km. Large outcrops of rock thrust up out of the beach in fascinating formations. Check a tide chart as at high tide this stretch can be become impassable in places. Over and around jutting headlands you will travel passing numerous stands of pandanus palms. Wildlife take advantage of the spiny leaves by living in the tree for protection and favour its fruit. The Gumbaynggirr people used pandanus leaves to weave neckbands and armbands. For most of the trek there are no serious tracks, just faint paths where other hikers have traversed; just the flawless coastline to follow. A formal path doesn't begin until the Freshwater Walking Track just north of the Pebbly Beach Camping Area (6.5km from Wooli). Unless you intend to continue all the way to Red Rock this would be a good place to turn around and return to the Wooli Wooli River to catch the boat back across at a pre-arranged time. This walk, while not easy, is well worth the effort. This is coast as nature intended. While holidaying in either Wooli or Minnie Water it would be the perfect time to experience this journey for yourself. For further information you can get a comprehensive guide of the walk from http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au//Walking-tracks/Yurayg.
