The Woollahra Council Plaque Scheme honours famous people or events associated with our local area that have made a significant impact to the community. 21.01.2022 This morning we unveiled a plaque in honour of Montague (Monty) Alfred Noble, one of Australia's finest all-rounders and Test Cricket Captains. He was one of the few batsman to have made more than 10,000 runs in first class cricket and made 37 centuries. Monty had a long standing career with the Paddington Cricket Club and so his plaque is installed at the entrance to the cricket oval at Trumper Park (corner of Glenmore Road and Hampden Street, Paddington).... 18.01.2022 Our next Woollahra School of Philosophy will explore the topic of addiction. We can be, and are, addicted to everything in front of us. From drugs and alcohol to gambling; to online shopping and checking our social media. As our guest speakers are located overseas this session will be pre-recorded. If you have a question you would like to pose to the panel about this topic, please write in the comment section below.

17.01.2022 Tomorrow, Saturday 12 September, there will an Ausgrid power upgrade. This means there will be no internet or network connection at Paddington Library including access to WiFi, using the public access computers, printing, copying or scanning. Customers are still able to come into the library to browse and borrow. If you need to call the Library please ring the Double Bay line on 9391 7100. We apologise for any inconvenience and our friendly staff will assist wherever possible.



16.01.2022 It's Dementia Action Week. An initiative of Dementia Australia. An estimated 70% of people who live with dementia, live in the community and we wish to support these people and make them feel welcome in our Libraries. Our staff have all been trained as Dementia Friends. In the past year we have run dementia friendly programming and are working towards being a Dementia Friendly Organisation, with our Watsons Bay Library becoming a certified Dementia Friendly Venue.

You will still be able to browse, borrow, and enjoy all the same great titles, just on a different platform. 13.01.2022 Woollahra Council were proud to partner with Share the Dignity through the #itsinthebag campaign. This initiative supports teenage girls, adult women and mothers who are living in crisis by providing them with a bag filled with essential and self care items. These are gifted to people who would otherwise go without during the festive season. Coordinated by Kerry-Ann at the Library, there were 21 bags donated by staff. We know these packs will be greatly appreciated by those that receive them.

12.01.2022 Australians use more than 400 million batteries each year and less than 5% are recycled. When dumped in landfill, batteries can leak a range of toxic substances into the environment. As part of National Recycling Week, we encourage you to drop your used batteries into our recycling bin located outside the exit of our Library at Double Bay. Ecobatt is part of Ecocycle who recycle all types of batteries to safely recover mercury, lead, silver, nickel, cadmium, steel, lithium and plastic.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have rediscovered or grown a love of gardening as they have spent more time at home.
