08.01.2022 1947 would see the Woori Yallock Football Club win it first every premiership, in what was described as one of the most thrilling Grand Final wins, where our boys would hold off a determined Healesville team. An article from the Healesville Guardian reporter on the year that was: ARTICLE FROM THE HEALESVILLE GUARDIAN... A RECORD YEAR - 1947 Reporting on matters concerning the Yarra Valley Football League at the annual meeting. *h- secretary, Mr. W. E. Valentine, said that 1947 could be claimed to be a record season in every way. The admittance of Yarra Glen offset the departure of Lilydale, and ten Clubs again competed for the premiership. This was won by Woori Yallock for the first time in the league's history, after the most thrilling grand final seen for many years. Financially, the finals matches were an all-time record, gate takings amounting to 358/1/2, and yielding a profit of 194/13/-. As a result, all clubs received their highest dividends for all time. The league's credit balance stood at 25/10/7.J. Comerford, of Yarra Glen, won the trophy for best and fairest player, the runner-up being R. Bates, of Healesville. The trophies were donated by Mr. Strudwick, of Yering, through the Yarra Glen secretary, Mr. Mc Coomb. During the year, eleven players and one official were reported to' the Investigation Committee; one player was disqualified for 9% years; one player for six weeks, one for three weeks, two for two weeks, and four for a week,., while 2 players and the official were reprimanded. Broadcasting over two stations of results of all matches, helped undoubtedly towards the success of the season, and club secretaries were thanked for their co-operation in making this possible. Thanking officials, delegates and club secretaries for their help during the season, Mr. Valentine said all must feel proud of the progress made by the league over the years. He felt sure that all club delegates and officials would continue 'to work for the betterment of the Yarra Valley League. See more
