23.01.2022 Year 10 Drama. We were tasked with writing and performing a 10 minute monologue for the class. We did a rehearsal and I noticed another monologue was similar to mine, too similar, so that night I wrote a brand new script and performed it the next day. As I took a bow I noticed my teacher looking at me stunned. He said "when did you write that? and I replied "last night. In front of the whole class he went on to say how great my writing was. I felt so chuffed. Then he pulled... me aside afterwards and encouraged me to pursue writing. That was the first time I began to think of myself as a writer. Since then I’ve gone on to complete a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies majoring in scriptwriting and have spent the last 13 years writing everything from website content and e-newsletters to social media posts and funding applications in my community development roles at several not-for-profit organisations and local councils in Melbourne and Perth. 22.01.2022 I've just finished writing and re-designing a brand new website for Run4Blue - a virtual race held annually that raises money, and awareness, for Police Legacy. This is such a great cause and helps support families of fallen or injured police officers. 04.01.2022 I love hip hop. Always have. Back in the day I just listened to whatever was popular, never really giving the rhymes a second thought. But when I left high school I started listening to the words. All I heard was booty’s, ho’s and cheatin’ on repeat. Hell no. I thought there has to be better hip hop out there than this so I started looking for tracks flowing with wordsmithery that left me in awe, messages that resonated with my values and storytelling that connected with my h...eart. Sounds like a big ask but I found it. There is so much great hip hop out there, old and new, if you are prepared to look beyond what’s trending. Now hip hop for me is about beats AND rhymes.
