25.01.2022 A comedian gave me the best writing advice. You just have to get up on stage, he said. Do it. The rest will follow. Im not a comedian but I do know starting is key to creating anything worthwhile.... Ive learnt the hard way. Ive spent years putting off writing because Im scared I wont get it right. Excuses like, Im not ready or I dont know enough are just that excuses. Fear getting in the way of you showing up. Now I know the only way of getting past fear is to start. No planning, template or tried and true way of writing the perfect copy. Just begin. Some days are easier than others. And of course, I avoid the blank page like everyone else. But in the end, when I start writing, the rest follows. Just begin. Youll be surprised at what happens next. Nx See more

24.01.2022 Youve been writing for hours You read back on your work but have no idea if its any good. You could probably do with a break but have too much work to do. As a professional writer, Ive had to get fresh eyes fast so I can make sense of my writing and continue editing. Here are my tips for approaching your work with a new frame of mind:... Read your writing from another deviceor print it out on paper. It will look unfamiliar and allow you to be more objective. Change the font or colour of the text (for the same reason as above). Read it aloud Embarrassing, but necessary for picking out poor flow. Make a cup of coffee Whenever coffee is on my desk, I feel like everything is restored. Exercise Endorphins give you editing energy. Call a friend Talking about something entirely unrelated gives your mind a well-earned break. How do you get fresh eyes so you can keep on working? 24.01.2022 It all started with the legendary Serial Since then, I just cant get enough. Im obsessed with podcasts. Driving, walking, cleaning, cooking Ill take any excuse to plug my earphones in and listen. Podcasts give me much-needed inspiration, entertainment and encouragement. Oh, and a big kick up the bum when I need it the most!... I can honestly say my life is better because of these insightful conversations. My latest blog gives you my favourite podcasts for creatives, as well as; Podcast summary Bio on the host Why youll love it My favourite episodes Listening suggestions Have a read then get listening. https://wordswithnaomifaye.com//best-podcasts-for-creatives

24.01.2022 Big win for me this week! If you know me, you know I fit the writer stereotype of an introvert. Im more than happy in my own company and networking to me is like saying, jump off the nearest building. So yeah, Ive put it off for years! But it was suggested to me that Fusion Biz is different. Its the opposite of white-business-man-in-a-suit-handing-out-business-cards kind of networking and more of a supportive group of women who want to learn from and inspire each... other. I wasnt convinced. But I knew I had to get out of my comfort zone and do something different. I walked in yesterday, too scared to introduce myself to anyone. I sat at a designated table and within minutes was surrounded by friendly people who made me feel super comfortable. I left feeling energised and proud that I did something so scary. I thought I would share, because so much of this business stuff IS scary. It might look like we have it figured out but we REALLY dont! Thanks Fusion Biz Co for creating such and awesome community, Steph Gordon for a motivating speech, and my business coach Creative Possibility Business Consultancy who has given me so much confidence. Ill be back! Nx

23.01.2022 Youve done the research. Youve listened to podcasts, read the articles and heard from friends. Content is marketing 101. And yep, you guessed it. Copywriting is part of the deal. But why is hiring a copywriter so important?... Apart from helping you express what you do through words, copywriters: Make you look like a legit business (bad writing is NOT a good look) Establish your brand and communicate your values (the gift that keeps on giving) Turn website stalkers into clients (we all gotta eat, right?) Give you engaging content you can use again and again (saves you time to do everything else) Help get your website found on Google (kinda a big deal) Copywriters are like the avo to your toast Without avo, you just look like plain old bread. Okay, still working on that analogy. But you get my drift! Nx See more

22.01.2022 Ive been commissioned to write content for The Pickle District An art lovers dream! Nestled between the city, Northbridge and Leederville, this little pocket of Perth is home to galleries, design and photography studios, and a boutique theatre all within a 300 metres radius of each other. Im writing a series of blogs on the area and have had the pleasure of chatting with Obscure View, Maison West Perth, Linton & Kay Galleries, Stala Contemporary and Holmes Cou...rt Gallery about culture, history, community and creativity Repurposed warehouses and secret laneways make this forgotten space a creative hub for things to come Nx

19.01.2022 A subscription service taught me the power of communicating our values. In response to the BLM movement, the service Clearly stated their stance Admitted past mistakes Made a pledge to do better... Told their audience how theyd do it Kept their promise and took action Suffice to say, Im more than happy to keep throwing this service my money! Their communications taught me... Neutrality is a form of communication Transparency creates trust and connection Open dialogue encourages constructive conversation Acknowledging mistakes contributes to change Social consciousness is more important than ever before. Your target market has a value-driven buying power that places businesses who care about their effect on the world on top. What are your values? Do you communicate them effectively? 19.01.2022 Artist, designer and photographer Bobbi Lockyer joined the #VogueChallenge with this spectacular cover How amazing if we had more First Nations people represented on glossy magazines in Australia? The first Aboriginal model to be on the cover of Vogue Australia was Elaine George in 1993. Since then, only a handful of models have been represented.... In Vogues 127-year history in America, only 21 Black women have appeared on the magazine solo and only one Black photographer has shot the cover. The Vogue Challenge responds to this narrow representation of creatives by elevating Black voices through DIY covers. 19.01.2022 What is Brand Voice and why is it important? Brand voice is the way you speak to your target market and express your personality kind of like if your brand was a person, what would they sound like? Cool and confident ? Or thoughtful and creative?... How do you develop a brand voice? Through tone of voice, words you use or dont use, style of writing, punctuation preferences, phrases you like, and the way you interact with your audience. Why is brand voice important? Oh, let me count the ways! Brand voice influences the way your target market perceives you. And if you speak in a voice your audience resonates with, theyre going to develop an emotional connection with you Brand voice creates brand recognition and trust. You recognise brands through their visuals AND their brand voice. Brand voice communicates your brand values and core messages. What do you find important? What messages are you trying to convey? Just like your logo reflects your brand, so do your words. Example of brand voices you probably already know and love: Go-To Skincare has nailed their brand voice, e.g. Go-To wont piss off your skin. In fact, it will calm the heck out of it. Go-Tos brand voice wouldnt work for every skincare brand but it *definitely* works for what theyre about. Or Who Gives a Crap Good for Your Bum - cheeky and oh-so memorable! Want help creating your brand voice? I develop brand voice guides and write website and blog posts with a voice reflective of you. 16.01.2022 How do you choose a copywriter? Call me woo-woo but I'm a big believer in vibes. You know that feeling you get when you see someone's Insta or hear their voice on the phone? You just get a VIBE whether that person is for you.... This is how I choose my freelancers anyway. I'll take a squiz at their work, but ultimately, I trust my gut. Will this person *get* me? If you're wondering whether we'll *vibe*, here's a little "cheat sheet". We'll be a good fit if... You have a creative heart and soulful spirit You’re a little eccentric or left of centre You love a good ol’ deep and meaningful You can’t live without coffee You want to establish a meaningful brand You like writing that actually says something I believe there's a copywriter out there for everyone, and you should choose a person who feels right for you. Want to suss me out? Let's chat over the phone so you can get a sense of my vibe. Email me at [email protected] to book in a time. Nx See more

16.01.2022 Are you living in a bubble? Focusing on your competition and forgetting about your audience? Over the last few years, I’ve followed many copywriters, and they’ve followed me. We like each other’s photos, comment thoughtful replies and give encouraging DMs it's super supportive! But I've been thinking... when does connecting with your peers become a feedback loop?... Are we limiting ourselves? And, more importantly, how does our audience fit in? Last week I was listening to an episode of Your Biz podcast with Dom Kimber @socswell on copycats. Guest @katetoon made the great point that while it’s natural to look at what everyone else is doing, especially when starting out, our focus should really be on our audience. Penny. Dropped. My feed is full of copywriters. Sometimes I feel inspired when I see their content, while other times, I'm discouraged. And this doesn't get me anywhere. Although I’ll always make time to support other writers (I love this about the community), I just unfollowed a bunch of people not because I don’t value their contributions, but I want to free up my feed so I can hear from the people I’m trying to serve. What are they struggling with? How can I help? I would love to hear from you. Do you feel like you’re in a bubble with your peers and not engaging enough with your audience? Comment below! 15.01.2022 You would think every copywriter would have their content s**t together, but even #contentqueens fall short on staying relevant. Cutting costs over the Pandy, I got rid of my socials planner subscription. And instead of creating content in batches, I posted sporadically when I had time. Two things happened.... I posted less frequently. Sometimes a week would go and I hadnt even touched my social media. The quality of my content slipped and I was less engaged. What did I do? Got my planner back and pronto! I also re-scheduled blocks of time to do my content. I chose Monday mornings. Things feel SO much better now I feel more inspired because I start my week with a task I lovewriting about content and creativity. Im posting more. And because I have more time to think about what Im writing, my posts are more thoughtful and engaging. So todays two tips? 1 If you struggle with posting regularly, get a planner to help. The investment is worth it. 2 Schedule in a window of time to create content in batches. Its easier to do it in one go. Scheduling content saves you time and unnecessary stress. It keeps you posting regularly and youll find your content improves as a result. Nx

15.01.2022 I have NOT been practising what I preach. Ive been bangin on about easy ways to come up with content and Ive failed to do it myself. Why? Because I didnt feel like I was in the right space to create something new. ... But then I remembered. I wrote a 1000-word blog with tips on making the most of the content you already have. This was one of them... One blog post can give you up to 50 captions ready to post. Go through your favourite post and find a key point your audience will find valuable. Then post it on your socials. And look, I took my own advice and had a social post ready to go. Mind blown Want more content tips? 15.01.2022 Ive been editing quite a few blogs lately I love seeing more creatives share their knowledge with the world! I thought it would be helpful to share 5 common mistakes I notice in blog posts and how to fix them. Here goes!... Long intros: People read on the run. If your blog takes too long to get to the point, your readers wont stick around. Get to your topic and fast. Self-serving content: Nobody wants to read writing by someone who likes to toot their own horn. Blogs shouldnt be about self-promotion, at least not directly. Bring it back to the reader. Irrelevant information: Always ask yourself, is this useful? How am I helping? If you cant answer these questions, start again. Too many points: I see this one a lot. People want to fit too much into one blog. Apply the KISS principle. Keep it simple, stupid. Decide on your main message and stick to it. Big chunks of writing: Make your blog easy to read. Remember to break your writing up with paragraphs, sub-headings and dot points. Is this post helpful? Let me know. Happy writing!

11.01.2022 PROJECT LOVE Evelyn Marina I absolutely love reading about art, writing about art and talking about art. Its forever inspiring to me. So when painter, ink artist and designer Evelyn Marina approached me to write her About page and Insta bio, I was absolutely rapt. ... Oh and the brief? Writing muse = Patti Smith. Yes, please. Where do I sign? Evelyn wanted to avoid inaccessible art theory and capture the emotions that inspire her instead. So the tone was whimsical, poetic and emotive. 10.01.2022 Does compare and despair get in the way of your creativity? I had a bad bout of it last week I went into a spiral of self-doubt and insecurity. I was questioning everything! But then I remembered that self-doubt is normal and my thoughts are *not* reality.... In case youre doubting yourself today, heres how Im overcoming my compare and despair and getting creative again. What lights up? Why do you do what you do? Bring the attention back to you. When you focus on your own work, you drown out comparisons, which makes creating easier. Get off the feed! Socials can be inspiring, but if you find yourself comparing and despairing, kick yourself off. Comparison stifles creativity. Remember the kind words people have said to you in the past My friend taught me to record positive feedback in a Google doc so I can revisit it when Im feeling low. It works! Do something totally non-biz related and remind yourself of your other interests. Your worth as a person has nothing to do with how productive you are or how many followers you have. Remember, youre doing what youre doing for a reason. You have something to say and its your duty to share it! I hope this helps! Nx See more

09.01.2022 You want new followers, more leads and better brand authority, but creating new content week after week is getting too much. When I first started my business, I wrote a new Facebook post every two days I thought each post had to be original and authoritative with new tips, examples, research the whole lot!... I ran myself ragged. And because I was so focused on socials, more valuable content fell through the cracks. Want to stop overdoing it? Or feeling guilty for not doing enough? My latest blog gives you 5 ways to make the most of your content and reach a wider audience. Heres the short version: 1 Refresh and Repost Surely people will notice? Dont worry, they wont. Think of all the information you consume on a daily basis, and remember how tricky the algorithm is. So why not repost your old content and gain new followers? 2 Tailor to Platform Do you post your Instagram content to Facebook but struggle to think where else it will go? Your content can be reshaped for different platforms. The only rule? Think about the audience and tweak accordingly. 3 Snip & tip Im surprised at how many people pay for great copywriting but dont reuse the content. Your website copy and blogs are ripe for the picking. You can get up to 50 captions from a single blog post! 4 Ease into email Are you in the process of creating a newsletter but scared of running out of content? Dont be. Your EDM can be made of 80% content youve already written, like snippets from your blog of social posts. 5 Create a hero Once you start repurposing, youll naturally be inclined to create hero content with the purpose of reusing it. Want to read my blog and get extra tips and tricks? Read it here https://wordswithnaomifaye.com//5-ways-to-make-the-most-of

07.01.2022 Are you feeling the pressure to make the most out of ISO? Theres a lot of talk about being productive right now. If its not #pivoting, its learning a new language or creating a masterpiece. I saw a post the other day that said, We are going through a collective traumatic experience. Not everyone has the privilege of turning a pandemic into something fun or productive. I love this And it was a good reminder for me. Ive definitely fallen into this must make the most... of it energy field and to tell you the truth, its getting exhausting! 06.01.2022 Do you produce content for the sake of it? Dont worry, were all guilty of it. You havent written a blog or showed up on social media for a while, so you smash up a random post and feel better. But what is this actually achieving? ... Every piece of content you produce needs to have a purpose. Even if its as simple as increasing engagement or establishing brand authority, purposeful content is the only way youll get results. Here are 5 questions to ask yourself before you start creating: 1 What is the purpose of this content? It should either educate, entertain, engage or inspire. 2 Who am I speaking to? Your audience will determine what you share. 3 What problem does my audience have? Successful content is underpinned by an understanding of audience. 4 How am I providing a solution? Tell your audience how youre the one who has the answer. 5 What value am I providing? If you can answer the above questions, then your content is adding value. I hope this helps. Let me know! 05.01.2022 Are you still living and dying on how many followers you have on Instagram? What about your like count? Those seductive love hearts and seemingly impressive numbers arent the best way to measure the success of your content. Entrepreneur and author Gary Vynerchuk says, numbers dont matter, influence does. Follower counts only matter if the audience actually cares and actively consumes your content.... We need to focus on the value our content brings our audience. Heres five ways to measure the success of your Instagram content. 1 Saves. Im super stoked when my post has been saved. Why? Because it means my content is valuable enough that people want to revisit it later. The ultimate compliment! 2 Comments. It takes precious time to comment on a post. If your content sparks a conversation, your followers are engaged. 3 Profile views. Are people checking out your profile? Your posts must be good enough that people want to know who you are. 4 Shares. The holy of holy. Your content is so valuable people want their network to read it. The best way to grow your audience. 5 Clicks. If people are leaving Instagram to check out your website, youre closer to converting them to clients. And thats the point, right? Instagram can feel like chucking pickles at the wall and hoping one sticks. But it doesnt have to be. Create content you would find useful. Take notice of what posts are getting the most engagement, then post more like it. Youll grow an audience who actually engages with you and takes action.
