24.01.2022 Young roosters to a new home. There are 5 young roosters available to find a new home with a flock of hens. Most are white one with orange and black markings - quite handsome. Hatched by a rescued hen. Quite friendly, some already eating their afternoon snacks from our hands. Will appreciate $10 as donation to the Foundation for each. Also 5 white young white hen pullets to find a new home - Would prefer if they found home as the flock and can separate if necessary. $15 donation will be appreciated for each. Please call Martina 0407871165

22.01.2022 Working Dogs Retirement Foundation In memory of Moss the Dog Moss had been hard at work for 12 years before she was retired and as my patient I got the privilege to adopt her. Moss, as many farm dogs like her, was riddled with arthritis and as early as 3 days after adoption I had to perform a pyometra surgery (removal of infected uterus) as well as remove three mammary gland tumours. Moss recovered well from her operations and with good management of her arthritis, she dec...ided to take her retirement very seriously. Moss adopted the back seat of my car as her home - the most expensive and luxurious kennel in Tasmania of that time. For four years the car's back door was opened day and night so she could come and go as she pleased, driving everywhere with me and enjoying every minute of it. Moss was a month short of 16 years when her failing kidneys claimed her life. Since Moss came into my life I've been thinking long and hard about how to make other hard working farm dogs happier in their retirement, even how to make them to retire rather than being 'disposed' of as soon as they 'fail' to perform for whatever reason (age, injury etc). And so the idea of Working Dogs Retirement Foundation popped in and now is established and it its first stages. It is a non profit private foundation with the aim to save any hard working dog from the fate of being disposed of at the end of their working life without the 'luxury' of peace and rest for the remainder of their days, rather than a 'bullet between their eyes' or a 'green dream' as "appreciation" for the hard work they've given through rain and hail, day in and day out, 24/7. The foundation will initially assist with relocating the dog to a new, retirement home and with medical treatments. The long term plan is to have enough land to establish a retirement home for these dogs. The Working Dog Retirement Farm will carry a small number of sheep and stock for the more active dogs to keep working at a much slower pace if required and enough space for the ones like Moss that decide that work is for the younger ones. Any donations towards Working Dogs Retirement Foundations are welcome. These donations are not tax deductible, however a receipt can be provided on request. [BSB 037012 Acc 352619 Workingdogsretirement foundation] Please contact us via FB or [email protected] if you like to register for adoption when a retiree farm dog will need to find a new home.

21.01.2022 Dex is on the way to a new home on a trial. Even though we were already told that it may be a very short 'trial' period as Dex - by the look of him - has already adopted his new family including the car :) We can easily imagine who is going to sit in the middle of the sofa watching TV every evening :)

21.01.2022 Needing a new home. Badger started her life as a farm dog. However, she is not very friendly with other farm dogs and slowly became more of a pet than working dog and will need to find a new home. She is 2 year young and desexed. She is timid, intelligent, not as energetic as you'd expect. Is good with cats and loves being inside with people. She does get anxious and separation anxiety. Also occasionally car sick. ... She really needs to be an 'only doggy child'. She'd be great with someone who works from home or needs a companion. Comes with toys and her bed.

20.01.2022 Just the other day the temperature dropped to (-2)dgC in our backyard in the morning. Yet my daffodils are thinking about spring already - and so are the birds singing their chorus since 4am. :) Once again we are 'selling' bulbs for coins donations for the Working Dogs Retirement Foundation :)

19.01.2022 Organically grown in my garden, fresh and personally made, Cat Nip bags are back! (Clive - the clinic cat has already claimed one) :) Selling at Longford Veterinary Clinic for $2.00 as donation to the Working Dogs Retirement Foundation.

18.01.2022 A new home needed for Dex 6 year young Kelpie brown/tan male. This is what the owner says: "I have had Dex since early 2014. In that time learn to jump on & off a motorcycle & a ute, cast left right & gather & push mobs of 3 - 1300 sheep. I took Dex to dog school & discovered he is afraid of sheep, initially trained as a trial dog I understand he was trained not to bark.... Dex is a beautiful dog but he is also was found with a dead ewe, he can not be around any sheep. Rather than have him destroyed it is my hope the foundation will find him a loving companion (not on a farm) who will look after him & allow him regular gentle exercise for his retirement." NB: Dex will be castrated and micro-chipped (booked 28.9.17) For any further enquiry about Dex or owner's contact, please contact Longford Veterinary Clinic on 63911737.

14.01.2022 Dex enjoying a rest after a walk! :). Dex is now walking off lead on our property and comes when called. We still keeping a very close eye on him and he does not seem to be interested in our sheep at all. He especially loves his walk to the back paddock when he can take a dip in a dam. And seems not to be 'fazed' by the house cats (at least this one) - or the other way round? :) Dex is still looking for a new loving home and long walks that he enjoys very much.

14.01.2022 Acupuncture can be applied to all creatures. I have been treating one of young roosters for sore swollen 'hock' joint. All treatment is happening 'after hours' at night when he is calmer being handled.

12.01.2022 Ollie, 8-9 year young 'fuffy' male (castrated) is looking for a new caring loving home. Ollie loves cuddles and once in mood (and that is often) can lie in the ...arms and have belly rubbed for hours.Ollie will suit a family with some acreage as he loves getting outside to check things out and sun bath. He may cope with a placid dog in a family and prefers family without one. Ollie is used to kids however would prefer quieter time for himself now. Ollie has a current vet check and blood test and is in a good health. Ollie will require a strict diet as he suffers from food allergy if he is fed any type of processed food (dry or wet) and loves his meat and tuna. Please contact Martina 0407871165 for further information and organizing meeting with Ollie. See more

11.01.2022 We extended help to another farm animal. This hen was rescued from a dog's mouth. After the treatment she was recovering in the back yard - and in gratitude presented us with 12 cute 'balls of fluff' :) Definitely a proud mum. :)

07.01.2022 We are happy to have Dr Chris on board our Foundation. Dr Chris will help with more complex surgical procedures when the need arises. :)

07.01.2022 Gracie - a cuddly affectionate 9 year young female desexed microchipped vet checked cat is looking for a new loving home. She is very loving and timid and not c...oping well in multiple cats household. She would love to find a quiet family with no other pets. May be suitable for a couple or a single person looking for an affectionate companion. Please contact Martina on 0407871165 if you'd like to give Gracie a new home. See more

06.01.2022 Dex in recovery from his surgery. Dex has been a very good patient. Not only he was castrated but also a broken canine tooth had to be removed. Dex did not wimp once and is enjoying all the attention he is getting. He is recovering at the Longford Veterinary Clinic premises and it would be easy to organize meeting with him for anyone who is interested to give him a new home. Dex responds well to a long retractable lead running around sniffing and still coming when called and is still not very happy with a short lead as he loves to explore the surroundings. In other words, he has a soft nature and could make an affectionate companion to someone who can assure not to take him close to sheep.

05.01.2022 Dex is a keeper. Hes staying with us - a message we received from his new owners! :) It is official, the trial period is over and Dex has a new home. :) Many thanks to WDRF team and namely to Vratka who took most of the care in the two months while in WDRF care; Taking him for walks, cleaning his cage and spoiling him with cuddles and little extra treats. ... All the best to Dex and his new family and Merry Christmas and happy New Year.

05.01.2022 Dex's Sunday Stroll Dex has recovered well from his surgical and dental procedures and now is enjoying his regular walks and affections that he gives plenty back. :) He will make a very loyal affectionate companion to the one who can give him lots of space (without stock or neighbors with stock) and exercise to keep them both fit :)
