24.01.2022 The Cracked Log Lamps are made from salvaged logs which would otherwise have been burnt. These lamps embrace, rather than avoid the naturally occurring cracks in refuse logs. By turning them into a vessel for light, we can bring the outside in, and be reminded of our intrinsic connection with nature. The warm yellow light coming through each lamps unique light pattern highlights the fiery fate that the salvaged timber would have otherwise been exposed to. Being legally blind,... this vision of light emanating from the peripheries and the highly tactile nature of my work, reflect the alternative sensory world within which I design. These lamps embrace the cracks often avoided in timber based designs pushing the light through the things often associated with darkness. Arthur Koutoulas, Sorb Stool or Planter, 2020 @akoutoulas The Sorb Stool or Sorb pot plant is based on an investigative series of small objects that explore the possibilities of tube as furniture. It consists of the idea of cutting into the tube to create its function and purpose. By varying the heights it can be a body of objects. A stool, a seat, a chair, a table a storage unit etc. From a sustainability point of view The Sorb uses the whole steel sheet with no waste or off-cuts. Arthur Koutoulas is a designer with over 20 years of practice who explores the boundaries where design, art and architecture blur. He designs branded environments for commercial, retail and hospitality experiences. 17.01.2022 Style and connection to purity of Nature. This minimalist piece combines natural timber elements with an unexpected light source. The light is recessed into the specially selected horizontal timber and the custom made LED light source includes an aluminium heat sink, light diffuser and wooden end caps. The result is what looks to be a branch hanging in space with light glowing from the underneath, with a neatly hidden light source.... Each piece of timber has been specially selected for its linear nature, bark composition and appropriate diameter. The Horizontal Scrub timber is salvaged, with the bark remaining on the item indefinitely, keeping one of the central appeals through each lights unique polished yet rustic appearance. This light is currently made in two lengths, all around the 50mm diameter (with variations in diameter due to the salvaged nature of the material): 730 mm and 1000 mm. This process can be used on any of the Tasmanian eucalypt propellers. Designed as a user-friendly flat pack system in order to reduce the cost of shipping and its effect on the environment, the Propeller Pendant ...and Propeller Droop Pendant lights are the latest of Duncan Meerdings celebrated lighting solutions. Meshing organic and industrial shapes, These lights cast dramatic shadows through an 8-bladed form. A mix of hand-driven and computer-aided machines have been used in the construction of these lights, which are designed and produced in Tasmania. The 8 curved blades slot into a custom central bracket and are held in place with small grub screws. The bracket then fixes into a turned Tasmanian Blackwood nose cone cover cap.
