25.01.2022 Go Play outside boys! ... it sounded way too quiet so I went to investigate what they were up to I have to admit I had to laugh at their ingenuity and ‘rule bending’ minds We are playing outside mum! And we’re got sitting on the couch!... Point taken Yep, I couldn’t argue that they had obeyed my instructions, literally! We do have pretty firm, but fair, household rules around #gaming and #screentime, especially on school nights... But REALLY BOYS! 18.01.2022 In winter time many of us find our shoulders shrugged up around our ears and our back hunched as we brace against the cold. While shivering is our bodys natural response to help keep us warm, and in fact it even helps boost our metabolism- it thrusts us into a poor posture. This Winter Warming, 2 Minute Be Fit 2 Sit break will help!... So many teachers tell me they feel achy in their legs and back at the end of a day in the classroom and theres many quick and easy things you can do to help. The easiest trick is to place a stool or desk/ table at the front of the room, within easy reach when youre addressing your class of students. PERCH YOUR BOTTOM ON THE STOOL OR DESK, SO YOU GIVE YOUR BACK AND LEGS A MINI-BREAK This simple act gives your circulation and your standing muscles a well-earned rest so they can re-charge. Ergonomics refers to the science of how we choose, arrange and use our learning and/or work environment, including our furniture and accessories, so were most efficient and most safe while we learn or work. When weve given careful consideration to our ergonomics we are most productive and have least stress and strain on our mind and body.... Doesnt that sound worthwhile? 04.01.2022 Ergonomics is not a static state. BELOW is an IMPORTANT TIP related to your Ergonomic Setup We dont setup our desk & chair once and thats it for good Ergonomics box ticked!... As humans we are constantly changing up what were doing as we learn, study and work and so should our setup! For example, we might want to spend time learning in the sunshine so might setup outdoors for a short while. Or we might be in the library or caf for a while, so need to consider how we set ourselves up if were in that situation for any length of time. We are supposed to MOVE our bodies, not sit in a chair in one position for any longer than 20-30 mins (refer to Prof Alan Hedges publications on the ideal cycle of work for details).
