24.01.2022 Such an inspiring gathering today at Mt Wilson Community Hall where members of the Upper Mountains fire-affected communities covered lots of ground with each other and Blue Mountains City Council. The Big Fix was thrilled to hear their proposal to develop a Rainforest Conservancy and work collaboratively on a 150 year project to recreate the type of fireproof diverse rainforest that would once have existed in the area. There was such a love for nature, so much knowledge and experience, and such a commitment to plant for future generations by returning paddocks to rainforest with coachwood, sassafras, mahogany, redwood and all the other diverse species that once thrived here.

17.01.2022 We're really excited about the Nesting Box Workshop happening at Blackheath Community Farm at 4.30pm this Saturday 29 February. Here we are checking out the best trees for installing nesting boxes around the perimeter of the Farm with Blue ARC - a Blue Mountains based group which aims to improve outcomes for animals during emergencies. Our goal this year is to create habitat and food supplies for native wildlife around Community Gardens in the Blue Mountains. The workshop will be presented by Alice McGlashan from NestBoxTales. If you'd like to know more contact jennybigelow(at)yahoo.com.au The Farm is at 60 Thirroul Ave (turn right into Thirroul before the main entrance of Mountains Christian College Blackheath.

16.01.2022 A huge thank you to Alice McGlashan and Blue ARC for an inspirational Nesting Box Workshop at Blackheath Community Farm last Saturday. A big thank you too, to the 32 attendees who were all clearly as passionate as we are about providing habitat for our wildlife now that so many tree hollows have been destroyed.

02.01.2022 They must have heard that Blackheath Community Farm is holding a nesting box installation workshop this coming Saturday 29 February at 4.30pm! For the first time at the Farm we were able to enjoy watching a male and a female Gang Gang Cockatoo frolicking in the trees around us ... were they looking for a place to nest? Come along on Saturday and learn how to help them and all the other birds in need of new homes after the fires. (NB. I wasn't able to capture the female but here's a photo of one from OzAnimals)
