24.01.2022 It is with immense sadness that Virunga National Park confirms the deaths of six Park Rangers in an attack by armed assailants this morning, Sunday, January 10, 2021. One Ranger was seriously wounded in the assault. Fortunately, the Ranger has been taken to a hospital in Goma and his injuries are no longer considered life-threatening. At approximately 7:30am, the Rangers were ambushed while on foot patrol inside the Park. According to a statement by Virunga National Park,... preliminary investigations indicate that the Rangers were taken by surprise and had no opportunity to defend themselves, and that those responsible for the attack are local Mai-Mai groups. 17.01.2022 White lions are not albino they're leucistic, which means they have a recessive mutation of genes that cause their coats to be white to blonde, rather than tawny. A cub is born white only if both of parents carry the recessive gene. White lions once roamed wild in the Timbavati area of South Africa. Their presence threads through the cultural history of the Sepedi and Tsonga communities, who revered the white lion and considered it sacred, divine, sent from above. But decad...es of trophy hunting, first started by Europeans, wiped out the white lion's wild gene pool. They were also put in zoos and bred in captivity today they are still put in canned hunts and as cute blue-eyed cubs put in petting zoos.
