20.01.2022 #thenandnow Zoe 2013 "Im now working as a Paediatric Occcupational Therapist - the changes with COVD-19 have been interesting! We now do teletherapy sessions. Im just glad we can keep offering services to our families, especially as so many have children with additional needs that make navigating this virus quite challenging #1 was taken in my first week in #Michigan -> #2 is in our therapy rooms at work.... My time in #America definitely helped me gain more confidence. Having the past experience of international exchange has allowed me to develop my resilience. This is super helpful with the current global crisis, where suddenly my work has taken a shift into the online realm, something I havent really delved into before!" See more

18.01.2022 #thenandnow Alice 2013 "#WEP is definitely a pretty special organisation! Im currently in my fifth and final year of a double degree Communications and International Studies at UTS. I headed overseas last year to live and study in Mexico City and learn Spanish. It was incredible! My exchange to #Italy in 2013 definitely prepared me in a lot of ways. I knew about homesickness and feeling overwhelmed in a new country and how to deal with that. My Italian also helped ...me endlessly with picking up Spanish fluently! Un abrazo / un abbraccio" See more

18.01.2022 #thenandnow Issy 2014 "I went on exchange to Oregon, #USA with #WEP in 2014. After returning home, I decided to attend the University of South Carolina for college. I was recently elected as the first international Student Body President at the University. This means that I now represent over 50,000 US college students. Without WEP, I never would have achieved this dream nor understood the opportunities I had to attend college in the USA."... @issyrushton See more

11.01.2022 We can't wait for student exchange to resume in Australia? How about you? Student exchange not only provides teenagers with considerable language skills (in non-English speaking countries) but also ‘soft skills’ like social maturity, intercultural communication and self awareness. In turn, through the international connections they create, exchange students contribute to peace and understanding between people of different backgrounds.

05.01.2022 The fact that going for exchange is great for personality growth is no secret, but its always nice to see ones personal observations backed up with scientific research: Gavin Andrews, Professor of Psychiatry at the University of NSW, undertook a study of 500 Australian adolescents who went overseas on exchange and said: Most of them went to foreign speaking countries so they were away from their families and operating in a foreign language and they were having to cope and we know it was stressful. For most of them very enjoyable a great challenge. We compared them with their peers who were carefully matched on the sorts of things we are talking about personality and maturity but who stayed at home. And the exchange students went away 17, came back 18, but were actually 27 year olds inside their heads."

04.01.2022 Were back in the early 2000s! These photos are of students arriving in Australia, ready to start their Aussie exchange program.

04.01.2022 Did you know that WEP Australia has been contributing to Kiva since 2009? We’ve made 302 loans to social enterprises and financially excluded individuals including, most recently: Women 4 Women Group in Sierra Leone (farming and food access) Tenez Bon Group in the DRC (recycled clothing) Kashf Foundation in Pakistan (equal education). Our team believe that adventurous young students deserve to be backed by an organisation that strives to contribute to a happier society.

03.01.2022 When will Australia open its borders? This is the question we all are very eager to learn the answer to! This pandemic is a very unique, first time in the modern history event, which means it is impossible to foresee what strategies will governments across the globe take. Despite all the odds, student exchange globally has experienced one of the best and busiest years on record. Who would have thought so, right?! In Australia, this was of course not the case, as our leaders ...chose to take the safe route and take advantage of our continent's remote geographical location. It is no secret that the tourism industry, including student exchange organisations Australia wide have suffered tremendously. Fortunately, WEP Australia is blessed to be backed up by the strong WEP International network. Our team is on stand by and we are ready to facilitate international exchange programs again as soon as it's permitted to do so!

03.01.2022 Let the journey begin...soon!

01.01.2022 Make a pact with yourself, to seize every opportunity for growth, today and into the future

01.01.2022 Did you know that student exchange has existed, in some form or another, for over 100 years? Student exchange has overcome many global events, not least world wars, natural disasters and several global pandemics. However, student exchange and WEP Australia more specifically, has continued towards our shared goal of enabling young people to make global friendships, enhance their language abilities and ultimately advance harmony across communities.
