17.01.2022 Introducing WoDaRC 2020 Content Partner: Australian Army! 20th Regiment, Royal Australian Artillery is excited to be part of the 2020 World of Drones and Robotics Conference. The unit has a long history of operating UAVs, with the first operational flight in 2005 flying a Elbit Skylark Minature UAV in support of Australian and Japanese forces in Southern Iraq. Generally, 20 Regt provides Surveillance and Target Acquisition (STA) information to the Armys Land Forces, having o...perated Skylark, Scan Eagle, Shadow 200, Schiebel S-100 Camcopter, Wasp, Puma, Blackhornet and various Multi Rotor UAS in this role over a 15 year period. The unit has flown in excess of 70,000 UAS hours during this time period; of which, 55,000 hours have been in support of ADF operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. 20 Regt recognises the importance of remaining abreast of the changes in the UAS space and seeks to continue improving its collective knowledge through attendance at events such as WoDaRC. UAVs are an evolving, fast moving sector, something that is not lost on the unit. At this moment in time, the regiment is undergoing significant changes and upgrades with the platforms and capabilities it offers: The Tactical UAS (Shadow 200) is up for replacement under L129-3 (a $400million project), which will see a tripling of the units capability bricks as well as introduce a new platform with enhanced combat characteristics and sensor suites. Further, the Army is acquiring a number of Small UAS+ (SUAS+), in the 6-20kg range, which will be operated by small teams from 20 Regt in support of larger combat units as required. Finally, under a continual commitment to fielding the best systems we can, the Army is continuing its rolling upgrade programs of the AE Wasp and FLIR Blackhornet systems; not only in 20 Regt, but across the entire land force. The Regiment is excited to be at the forefront of these new and enhanced capabilities. The integration of these systems into 20 Regt will ensure the unit is both ready now and future-ready to support the land force. Register to see them at WoDaRC today! https://www.worldofdrones.com.au/ #Drones #Drone #WoDaRC2020

08.01.2022 WoDaRC 2020 Speaker: Mr John Fardoulis, Mobility Robotics Abstract: Operating in some of the most remote, extreme and hazardous locations on the planet, the Odyssey2025 Project broke new ground in using small drones to help with the humanitarian clean-up of areas polluted with deadly landmines and explosive remnants of war in the north-central African Republic of Chad. More than 100 million landmines and hundreds of millions of pieces of unexploded ordnance are scattered in 5...9 post-conflict states around the world, posing unspeakable threats to human and animal life. There is a desperate need to innovate, as it will take centuries to rid the world of such a curse at the current rate of clean up. Many milestones were achieved during the project. The first operator programme was implemented in a country where small drones were unheard of. Two diploma levels of training were developed and implemented taking indigenous staff with no prior knowledge to becoming competent in flying small drones to map hazardous areas at deadly minefields. Socio-economic and humanitarian impact were achieved on many levels, leaving a long-lasting legacy. Register today to hear more from John.
