25.01.2022 This week is NAIDOC Week, where we acknowledge the histories, cultures and languages of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Within our centres, we embed many practices to acknowledge this, not just during NAIDOC Week but also throughout the year. Join us as we explore this year's theme, 'always was, always will be'.

24.01.2022 In honour of NAIDOC Week this week, we’d love to share the stories of six Aboriginal and Indigenous Australians who inspire us, and what we have learned from them. We recognise and thank the First Nations peoples for allowing us to be a guest on their Country which we now call home. Always Was, Always Will Be. [Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander readers are advised that some of the following content contains images of people who have died.]

24.01.2022 Not all superheroes wear capes At Leumeah World of Learning, the children participated in Superhero Dress Up Week by dressing up as their favourite superheroes! Through various play experiences, the children were given the opportunity to discover that not all superheroes wear capes. Shout out to all the heroes in our community - teachers, doctors, scientist, police officers and fire fighters, to name just a few. We appreciate you so much

23.01.2022 Incursions are a continuous part of our program here at Kingsgrove World of Learning. We recently had an exciting day with our local Fire brigade team. While learning about fire safety, the children also had the opportunity to explore the fire truck, water hose, small learning areas indoors, and get to know our local fire fighters.

21.01.2022 This International Men’s Day, we are celebrating the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities. This year’s theme is better health for men and boys, highlighting great role models and raising awareness of wellbeing. We are so proud to have the opportunity to lead by example in our centres, inspiring the next generation of men, and creating a fair and safe society that allows the children in our care to prosper. In the words of one of our Early C...hildhood Teachers, James: I love working with children because every single day brings something new. You get to have a huge impact on children’s lives, and it’s an absolute privilege, something that I never take for granted. Being a male in child care, I get to knock down biases. Boys and girls can both be who we want to be. #internationalmensday

21.01.2022 The butterfly children at St Helens Park World of Learning illustrated their own story books recently. This stemmed from their interest in reading and retelling stories that we read. The activity allowed them to be in control of their own story and bring their imagination to life. It also helps build the children’s understanding of books, words and their meanings. We had stories about Pokémon, rainbows and princesses. The children wrote the words along with drawings of pictures with the help from their educators. What do you think of their work?

20.01.2022 Recently the Wombat's children at Leumeah World of Learning recognised Brave Hearts White Balloon Day. Brave Hearts has a commitment to protecting Australian children and a commitment that all educators of Leumeah World of Learning share. Throughout the week leading up to White Balloon Day, our educators spent time reading our safe series books with the children and discussing topics such as who are our 5 heroes, emotions, how to be a safe explorer and what is the undies rule. On White Balloon Day, the children collaborated in an art project where they drew portraits of their 5 heroes, which included the people that make them feel safe and loved.

19.01.2022 The Possums at Leumeah World of Learning have recently been exploring dinosaurs as an extension of their own interests The Educators created a dinosaur land play area under the shade of our fig tree, which the children explored in small groups. Our educators have also been assisting the Possums in researching dinosaurs during group learning, encouraging the Possums to share any questions they may have about dinosaurs.

18.01.2022 Here at Leumeah World of Learning we use unique materials to further assist the children in learning and developing essential skills. Recently, the Puggles used a whisk filled with pom poms to encourage the children’s fine motor development, as they attempt to collect the pom poms from inside the whisk. This is a simple and easy activity that could very much be replicated at home for your children too!

15.01.2022 Here at Leumeah World of Learning the Possums, have further explored their knowledge of indigenous Australians during NAIDOC week recently. Using stones with Aboriginal symbols, the children engaged in storytelling in small groups. We explored what these symbols mean and how they can be used to share messages or stories with others. The Possums also explored the differences between bush tucker and store bought foods in a sorting game.

14.01.2022 Here at Mooringe World of Learning, the Pre-Kindy Room celebrated NAIDOC week with a display to bring about awareness and respect for cultural diversity. We listened to aboriginal music, talked about the different flags, artefacts, culture, symbols and arts of the indigenous people. In addition to this did some dot painting on natural materials and boomerang cutouts. What a wonderful experience this was!

14.01.2022 At Leumeah World of Learning, a key area of our school readiness program includes developing positive social skills. 13.01.2022 Recently in the Puggles room at World of Learning Leumeah, we are recognising Reconciliation Week. As part of this, the babies participated in creating some dot paintings in honour of the aboriginal culture. Did you know? Aboriginal artwork is an important tool that aboriginals use to tell stories from different tribes and the events they go through. A reason they began dot painting was to help disguise the sacred meanings behind their tribe's stories.

13.01.2022 Recently at Punchbowl World of Learning, we have been loving all the bugs that have visited our yard in the past few weeks. The children have enjoyed watching them crawl around and wander through their environment. We have been learning about the importance of not touching bugs if we are not sure what they are, and being extra careful with spiders that may bite us. The children demonstrated their love for bugs through drawing, as they documented their findings.

12.01.2022 Throwback to our Halloween celebrations at Amberley Park World of Learning recently! This year, we decided to add a healthy twist to our spooky treats for trick or treating. What do you think?

12.01.2022 As part of our school readiness program here at Leumeah World of Learning, we host a lunch box month for the children in the preschool room throughout November as they prepare to start kindergarten in just a few short months! Our aim during this is to support the children and help them develop the skills they will need when they are at school and provide opportunities for children to get a better understanding of what it will be like during lunch times at school next year.

11.01.2022 Last week at St Helens Park World of Learning we have been reflecting on the significance of the colours within the aboriginal and the Torres Strait islander flags. Here the children painted rocks red, yellow and black then used them to match printed flags. While the experience was taking place the children enagaged in conversation, discussing amongst themselves what colours they were using and what they represent.

03.01.2022 Recently at St Helens Park we used natural materials from around the yard such as leaves and mud to create spring inspired potions. We first went on a nature hunt and collected all the materials from the ground to use and we added them all into a tub to share. Then, the children collected pots and pans from the sand pit and began cooking. Natural items from the yard are a resource we love to use at St Helens Park as it provides endless opportunities for play and development.

01.01.2022 The Possums at Leumeah World of Learning recently engaged in one-on-one discussions with their educators throughout the day on R U OK? Day. During these discussions the children used images of faces to help identify their own emotions. Educators encouraged the children to share what makes them feel happy, sad, angry or excited. It was so lovely to hear so many Possums identify themselves as happy or excited during our one-on-one chats!
