16.01.2022 FACT: There will never be as many fire trucks as there are houses. Do not depend on a fire truck being available at your home. But if you and your home are well prepared, you stand a better chance of surviving a bush fire. There are simple things you can do around your home to prepare it for a bush fire, like keeping the grass low and having a cleared area around your home. 11.01.2022 Don and Len Carter, two of the founding fathers of the volunteer bush fire brigades now established across the Sutherland Shire including Woronora Bush Fire Brigade Well deserved recognition

11.01.2022 On the 10th of October a hazard reduction burn being conducted to the West of Heathcote and Waterfall spotted across the Princess Highway into the Royal National Park. The fire, designated ‘Kangaroo Ridge’, took-off quickly into difficult terrain. Crews from Woronora assisted in containing the fire. We provided remote area firefighters who deployed via helicopter to extinguish hotspots in difficult terrain, as well as providing truck-based crews who helped contain the fire’s ...edge along the train line. The fire was officially contained on 13th October. The quick spread of the fire should serve as a reminder that the fire season is well and truly upon us. Even with recent rainfall, fuels can dry quickly and fires occur unexpectedly. We've been getting ready for the fire season, have you? https://www.myfireplan.com.au/

10.01.2022 We remember them

08.01.2022 Large Air Tanker (LAT) Drop on the Kangaroo Ridge Fire

08.01.2022 On the 13th of December we held a gathering at our station to award the NSW Bushfire Emergency Citation to our members who were active during the 2019/20 season. Recognition of our member's work in fighting fires from the QLD border to the South Coast We also took the opportunity to celebrate training accreditations our members had achieved over the past year, with covid restrictions procluding face to face celebrations for some time. This included welcoming a large contingent of newly qualified firefighters who we are excited to have join our ranks We were also honoured to have Barefoot Photography offer her services free of charge, taking a brigade photo (the first since 2004) and other images of the event. On behalf of the brigade, thank you Lisa for your kind offer of assistance!

08.01.2022 On the 18th of October we conducted joint training with our friends at Loftus Volunteer Bushfire Brigade We ran concurrent drills putting some of our new members through their paces ahead of their Basic Firefighter assessments, while also training more experienced members ahead of their Advanced Firefighter exams We've been getting ready for the fire season, have you? https://www.myfireplan.com.au/

04.01.2022 Congratulations to one of our experienced firefighters Alex who was today qualified as our newest Crew Leader Crew Leaders are required to meet a range of stringent competency requirements, that allow them to take charge of large groups of firefighters in the field and lead the emergency response to incidents Well done Alex

04.01.2022 In light of recent covid-19 cases across Sydney and an escalation of restrictions, we are currently limited to essential operations so that we can play our part in stopping the spread This unfortunately means that we will be unable to assist Santa on his annual trip down the Wonnie To say we are dissappointed would be an understatement. We get just as much from the day as all of Santa’s adoring fans... This is the first time in recent memory that Santa has not graced one of our fireboats, but it is important that we all play our role in beating covid-19 So for now, Merry Christmas, stay safe and bring on 2021!
