16.01.2022 Prolapse & Pessaries Pelvic organ prolapse is when one or more of the pelvic organs like bladder, bowel and uterus drop into the vagina causing a bulge/lump, heaviness and dragging sensation. Prolapse occurs due to damage of the support structures of the pelvic floor including muscles, fascia and ligaments.... Pelvic floor specialist physios can help you with prolapse where Pelvic floor retraining is critical in the overall support of the pelvic organs. What is a pessary and how does it help to manage with Pelvic organ prolapse. A pessary is a silicone device that is inserted into the vagina to help support a pelvic organ prolapse. A pessary is a long term, removable, non-surgical way of supporting the pelvic organs in a better position to relieve your symptoms. In some women, especially younger women or those in the early post-partum phase, we can even see recovery of the prolapse. In these cases, the pessary is used as a temporary support, a similar idea to using a knee or ankle brace to support a ligament whilst it heals. What kind of pessary should I have? The decision about which type of pessary each woman should use depends on the type of prolapse and the symptoms it causes. With a best fitted pessary, you wont be able to feel it and you can carry on your normal daily activities. If you are concerned, feel free to call us as we are here to help and empower you to embark on pelvic floor retraining. #prolapse #pessary #postnatal #hillsdistrictmums #pelvicfloorhealth #womenshealth #wowphysio #worldofwomen #wow

With proper assessment, teaching pelvic floor muscle exercises correctly and education about healthy bladder and bowel, 80 % of people can benefit. At WOW Physio, We do a thorough examination of your condition and will also check your ability to perform correct pelvic floor contractions. Assessment of pelvic floor muscles can be done either with real time ultrasound or internal vaginal / rectal examination depending on your choice and consent. 11.01.2022 WOW physio is welcoming all wonderful Women to the first day of Womens Health week 2020. Today we are going to talk about the role of pelvic floor in female body. The pelvic floor is made up of a number of layers of muscle tissue and ligaments that are attached within the hammock of pelvis. They are connected to the pubic bone in the front, the tailbone at the back, between the sitting bones and also to the hip muscles deep inside the pelvis.... The muscles and ligaments support all of the organs present inside the pelvis including the bladder, small intestine, rectum, and, in women, the uterus and vagina. The pelvic floor controls the passage of urine and faeces through the urethra and anus. Muscular structures called sphincters surround the urethra and anus. When the pelvic floor muscles contract, the internal organs are lifted and the sphincters tighten around the openings. This sphincter contraction also prevents leaking of urine and stool. When the pelvic floor muscles relax, the sphincters open which enables urine and faeces to be eliminated. In addition to providing vital bladder and bowel control, pelvic floor muscles also contribute to sexual function. Strong pelvic floor muscles help in increasing sexual sensation and arousal. Pelvic floor muscle spasm however, can result in pain during intercourse and orgasm, as well as causing constipation and bladder problems. The ability of the pelvic floor muscles to both contract as well as relax is critical to normal bowel, bladder and sexual function. Pelvic floor dysfunction, be it weakness, laxity or spasm, can have a significant impact on overall health.
