15.01.2022 Another busy week here @wpmlawyers. This week, a visa that is not often granted, the Distinguished Talent Visa. Only 200 of these are issued every year and one of our clients were fortunate to have been granted this visa. 13.01.2022 A great start to the week. Firstly, another Global Talent visa approval. These GTI visas are reserved for very high achieving applicants, from selected occupations. They are still within the Distinguished Talent group of visas, but granted much more quickly. Additionally, today we had a 6 year student visa approval. This is not that common, particularly for an applicant with not great English. But a carefully planned study plan, along with a considered course program, allowed this client to reach the first step of their goals. @wpmlawyers

11.01.2022 Australian Federal Budget 2020 - Migration implications. Here is a summary of some of the key measures to be implemented over FY20/21. - Net migration to fall to -70k. - PR visa grants to remain at 160k - good to see.... - Increase to partner visa numbers for this FY - good to see. - Increase in both Business Investment visas as well as Global Talent visas - good to see. - by 2023, migration levels will increase to 201k, which is higher than it has been over the past few years - good to see. Some concerns are: - introduction of an English test to partner visas, for some Sponsors and Visa applicants. - moving forward to split partner visas into a Sponsorship, which must be approved, before a Visa application can be made. - Australian borders look likely to continue to be restricted until late 2021. WPM Lawyers recommends: - If you have been considering a partner visa, get advice and act quickly before further changes are made. - If you are an academic, or completing a Masters or PhD, talk to us about the GTI visa as that particular program is being tripled.
