25.01.2022 Our Spring Backyard Bioblitz will take place over the weekend of 10 and 11 October. This is our fifth Backyard Bioblitz since we introduced them in April during the original CoVID lockdown. The survey covers any backyard anywhere between Gympie Regional Council and Bundaberg Regional Council areas, including, of course, Fraser Coast. You need to be able to record your observations as pictures (via camera/phone) and/or sound recording and to upload them onto the iNaturalist Au...stralia website, which is linked to the Atlas of Living Australia. You can also download iNaturalist for free as a mobile phone app. You do not have to be able to identify the subject of your observation(s). iNaturalist itself, or someone else, may be able to do that for you. It is helpful though if you can narrow it down to ‘animal' or ‘plant' or ‘fungus' or ‘insect' etc The link is to the Spring Backyard Bioblitz project is https://inaturalist.ala.org.au//fraser-coast-backyard-biob Thanks to Scott for a couple of photos from his 'backyard'.
23.01.2022 If you have ten spare minutes, watch this. Sir David Attenborough discusses what he believes to be one of the most pressing issues of our time the increase of the world's human population and its impact on our planet. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiBzbY-Gz0o
20.01.2022 Member Diane Christensen has enlisted the help of some of her fluffy friends for our Branch's contribution to this Thursday's PlushieProtest. Let this Federal Government know our cherished wildlife is far more important than their quest to clear an unscrutinised pathway for development approvals. #PlushieProtest
19.01.2022 Some of the first results of this weekend's Backyard Bioblitz. You can keep lodging observations made on the weekend into the coming week if you haven't had time to do so, but at this stage 15 observers have made 127 observations of 98 species.
17.01.2022 We are privileged to live in a region with such diverse wildlife, and indebted to locals who have worked for nature conservation over many years
14.01.2022 A pair of Pied Oystercatchers nesting on the barren wastelands of the new "Pandanus on the Point" subdivision in Murphy Street Point Vernon last week. They were there for a few days. On Thursday night they were attacked by crows. They were gone in the morning and there were no eggs. Nearby resident Paul Woods got these shots the day before. Thanks for sharing Paul Our wildlife is running out of places to nest, feed, and shelter, as priority is given to the holy grail of economic growth. As the biodiversity of our natural environment shrinks through neglect, we look to a future where we are so much the poorer.

12.01.2022 Congratulations to Jenny and the nursery volunteers.
10.01.2022 Want a distraction in a week full of testosterone fuelled footy finals talk? Look no further than the September issue of our newsletter, Wambaliman. It's full of thought provoking dialogue, probing issues, and delightful insights into the Fraser Coast's magical wildlife. Non-members can view it on Wildlife Queensland's website, wildlife.org.au/fraser-coast/ There is plenty of good reading in the back issues if you have to cleanse yourself of Cam Smith or Dusty Martin exposure!!
07.01.2022 Don't forget to get your backyard bioblitz observations in to our weekend survey. Log them into the Fraser Coast Backyard Bioblitz Spring 2020 project on iNatualist. Image from JBBC
