25.01.2022 For the best #democracysausage in #Northcote make your way to Westgarth Primary to vote in the by-election. As well as sausages and drinks, Westgarth Kinder will also be selling delicious baked goods.

25.01.2022 BREAKING NEWS: Laura Chipp Reason Northcote has confirmed that she is committed to funding for the Westgarth Primary Redevelopment. Check out her video at https://www.facebook.com/reasonnort/videos/148695485863367/ Thanks to Laura for her support!

24.01.2022 The Whopping Great Fete, Westgarth Primary School is on this Sunday. It will be HUGE. All funds raised go towards the Westgarth Primary Redevelopment Project. Thanks Jellis Craig - Inner North, Team Rigopoulos and Ben Harrison Real Estate Agent for being such amazing sponsors. This video theyve produced tells our story beautifully.... See you on Sunday!

24.01.2022 21st October. The Whopping Great Fete is an event that demands a spot in your diary. This is an amazing community event. And any funds raised go towards the next stage of the Westgarth Primary redevelopment project.

23.01.2022 Thank you to Fiona Patten MP for raising the condition of the Westgarth Primary School roof in the Legislative Council this week. Well let you know once we hear a response from Education Minister James Merlino.

23.01.2022 Its less than three weeks until the Northcote by-election. None of the candidates have yet committed to funding for the much-needed Westgarth Primary School redevelopment, so we cant yet recommend a vote for any of them. However, Clare Burns, Lidia Thorpe and Laura Chipp Reason Northcote have all taken the time to visit the school for a briefing on the project, and have provided messages of support. ... We now need them to take the next step and commit funding to the project.

23.01.2022 The Northcote by-election will be held this Saturday, 18th November. You can vote from 8am to 6pm at Westgarth Primary Schools Clarke Street campus. Heres our handy guide showing which candidates are supporting the Westgarth Primary School Redevelopment Project.

22.01.2022 In 2018, Westgarth Primary School council will continue to seek funding from State Government for the school redevelopment project. Key project elements include: -A full-sized gymnasium, that will provide: space for the whole school to meet indoors; a stage; and a full-sized netball/basketball court (to be used by the broader community outside of school hours) -an upgraded STEM area (including space for science experiments)... -upgraded music facilities -contemporary teaching and learning spaces, including 6 new general learning spaces to replace some of the portable classrooms -an expanded staff room that will accommodate all staff Funds raised by the school community will assist with minor works as part of Stage 1. The attached document provides a quick overview of the masterplan.

22.01.2022 Oh No ....I will never get to wander aimlessly around K-mart ever again

20.01.2022 One of the best things about Westgarth Primary is the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation program. And now, garden beds have re-built, and a new greenhouse installed. This is part of Stage 1 of the Westgarth Primary Redevelopment Project. ... All made possible with funds raised by the school community through events such as the Whopping Great Fete. Whopping Great Fete, Westgarth Primary School

20.01.2022 Welcome to Westgarth Primary School for 2018! This year, there are 655 students enrolled, 70% more than in 2007.

19.01.2022 Congratulations to the Whopping Great Fete, Westgarth Primary School - $91,000 raised for the school! It was an absolutely amazing day and an incredible effort from the fete team and everyone who volunteered!

19.01.2022 We love our public schools in #Northcote 4 out of every 5 primary school-aged kids in Northcote attend a public school like Westgarth Primary. This is significantly above the state average of 67%. ... http://www.theage.com.au//where-do-your-neighbours-send-th

19.01.2022 The WPS Redvelopment committee were thrilled that 58 parents wrote a total of 52 letters to Kat Theophanous MP about providing funding for the infrastructure of the school. We apologise that we have not been in touch sooner to thank you for the time you took to write to Kat and provide you an update about the meeting we had with her at the end of July and again last week. The volume of letters and engagement from the school community certainly captured Kat’s attention. Kat ...has advocated with the Victorian School Building Authority (VSBA) for funds to repair the ongoing roof issues which has contributed to WPS receiving approximately $150k to fund emergency maintenance work to the roof, guttering etc. She has also raised our concerns with the Deputy Premier and Education Minister, Hon. James Merlino. We are yet to receive a commitment to deliver on the WPS Master Plan, so this is just the beginning of our campaign and we need you to stay involved. Every year parents and friends of the school raise around $200,000 from our fundraising activities. This has enabled the refurbishment of the Canteen into the new Science Lab (Stage 1 of the MasterPlan) (photos below : Note: all parents provided consent for these photos to be shared) . I will be back in touch very soon with next steps in our campaign

19.01.2022 Its now less than 6 weeks to the Northcote by-election. Neither Clare Burns, Lidia Thorpe or Laura Chipp Reason Northcote has yet committed to funding the Westgarth Primary Redevelopment Project. We need your help to remind the candidates why we need their support.... -student enrolments have increased by 68% over the past 10 years -250 kids are currently being taught in portables -with one or two exceptions, school facilities have not been updated in more than 25 years -substantive works to address these major challenges cant happen without government support. Well continue to keep you updated as the campaign progresses.

19.01.2022 The Greens candidate at the upcoming Northcote by-election will be Lidia Thorpe. Well be writing to her shortly, and look forward to briefing her on the Westgarth Primary redevelopment project. Lidia has identified overcrowding as a key issue for the election. Given Westgarths student population has grown by 68% in 10 years, and 250 kids are now being taught in portable classrooms, we hope shell be a big supporter of the project.... You might like to get in touch with her too, to let her know what you think about the need for investment at Westgarth.

19.01.2022 Westgarth Primary School is a HUGE part of Northcote. 648 students 1000+ parents & guardians... And the Whopping Great Fete is one of the biggest events in town! (see you there on 22 October).

18.01.2022 Northcote has a massive shortage of netball courts. As the Darebin City Council says, this is letting girls down badly. The Westgarth Primary Redevelopment Project includes plans to expand our gym into a full-sized netball/basketball stadium. This will finally allow the whole school to meet undercover. ... Importantly, out of school hours, the stadium will be a community resource, addressing the netball court shortage in the area. This is yet another reason that were calling on Lidia Thorpe, Clare Burns and other candidates in the Northcote by-election to commit to funding for the project.

17.01.2022 The latest update on the Westgarth Primary Redevelopment Project from this weeks school newsletter.

17.01.2022 Westgarth Idol showcases the rather impressive talents of Westgarth parents. Its an incredible event, and lots of fun. The funds raised contribute towards the Westgarth Primary School redevelopment. You should definitely go.

17.01.2022 Congratulations to Thornbury High School, which has secured $5million from the Victorian government towards a new performing arts centre and gymnasium. This is a great result. With 250 kids being taught in portables, and 68% student growth over the past 10 years, we think the case is also pretty strong for investment in Westgarth Primary. Well continue to work with Clare Burns, Laura Chipp Reason Northcote, Lidia Thorpe and other candidates in the Northcote by-election to advocate for a commitment to the Westgarth Primary Redevelopment Project.

16.01.2022 The inner north is one of the fastest growing areas of Melbourne. Schools in #Northcote are under extreme pressure. We are disappointed that neither Lidia Thorpe or Clare Burns has yet committed to funding for the Westgarth Primary School redevelopment. In just over two weeks theres an election for the state seat of Northcote. Education is a key issue for Northcote and we want to see all candidates commit the desperately needed funding for Northcotes schools.

16.01.2022 This will be a fantastic event, and all proceeds go to Westgarth Primary! Dont miss out on a ticket!

16.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who has jumped on board with the Redevelopment campaign. So far a whopping 96 parents have written letters to Kat Theophanous sharing their concerns regarding the lack of State government infrastructure investment in the school. This will demonstrate to her that the school community is behind this campaign and care about this issue. ... Some of you have even written a second letter :) Please share with your friends about this campaign and encourage them to join this Facebook group for updates

15.01.2022 Lidia Thorpe visited the school recently, and has now followed up with this message. We thank Lidia for her support.

14.01.2022 Great work Westgarth Idol! A cracking night. And $14,560 donated to Westgarth Primary that will go towards the school redevelopment project.

14.01.2022 An update on the Westgarth redevelopment project via the school newsletter.

13.01.2022 Westgarth Primary School has a fantastic Spanish language program. It uses a Content Language and Integrated Learning approach, with Spanish taught through Discovery (Science and Humanities) and Visual Arts. The Department of Education & Training, Victoria has profiled Westgarth as a best practice case study in languages education. Check out this fantastic video!

11.01.2022 Right on cue, the school roof had a major leak on Election Day. A perfect illustration of why the government needs to fund the Westgarth Primary redevelopment.

10.01.2022 This week, we were delighted to welcome Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Tanya Plibersek, and new Member for Batman, Ged Kearney to Westgarth Primary. They had a tour of the school, led by our wonderful school captains, visiting the prep classrooms, the kitchen garden and the art room. It was a great opportunity to point out the funding and growth challenges being experienced by the school.... We look forward to following up with Ged to provide a more detailed briefing on the schools redevelopment plans.

09.01.2022 The Westgarth Primary teaching staff do an amazing job. This interview with Assistant Principal Donald Eddington in Teacher Magazine describes how Westgarth has been implementing an innovative, evidence-based approach to teaching and learning. *picture does not show actual Westgarth staff!

09.01.2022 Its almost Whopping Great Fete time! Our chance to contribute to progressive improvements to Westgarth Primary. Like we did with the playground.... The music room. And the kitchen garden.

07.01.2022 The Northcote by-election will be held on Saturday 18 November. But youll only have a chance to vote for candidates supporting the Westgarth Primary redevelopment project if youre correctly enrolled. If youve moved recently, you have until 8pm on 28 September to update your details.

07.01.2022 The results are in. Last months fete raised a whopping $96,000! On top of this is the generous $25,000 donation from Team Rigopoulos and Ben Harrison Real Estate Agent that will come our way in 2018.... Funds will go towards refurbishing the old canteen area into a multi purpose space. Thanks to everyone for such amazing generosity of both time and money.

07.01.2022 Wasnt the Whopping Great Fete, Westgarth Primary School an amazing day? It was great to see the interest from our local politicians, including Lidia Thorpe, Clare Burns, Laura Chipp Reason Northcote, Fiona Patten MP and David Feeney MP. With 4 weeks until the Northcote by-election, well continue to work hard to see that interest translate into firm funding commitments for the Westgarth Primary redevelopment project.

05.01.2022 "When schools become overcrowded, as enrolment rises above the intended capacity of the school, the evidence suggests that students learn less effectively." Dr Peter Goss, Grattan Institute Westgarth has seen enormous growth over the past decade, and this growth shows no sign of abating. Squeezing in more portable classrooms is not the answer.... We need the government to invest in an upgrade to our school so that we can effectively manage this growth. Were calling on Clare Burns and Lidia Thorpe to commit to funding during the campaign for the Northcote by-election.

05.01.2022 Westgarth Primary has a roof problem. Despite regular maintenance, the roof at the Brooke St campus continues to leak. Mould was found growing all over the carpet and two adjoining walls. We recently discovered major mould inside a wall.... Thanks to some effective advocacy last year by Fiona Patten MP, the government has funded remediation works that are underway, but the problem is much worse than anticipated. The Brooke St classroom is still being dried out, keeping it out of action. This is having a significant impact on Grade 1 students, who have been without their classroom all term. A 2015-16 condition report indicated that the Brooke St campus needs a new roof. Until the roof is done properly, the likelihood of reoccurrence is high. The Clarke St campus has also been leaking, with another classroom out of action due to extremely high mould. Remediation will take some time. As per Brooke St, the solution lies in tackling the source of dampness. The roof regularly leaks. On Election Day last year, it was ankle deep inside the building. This poses a major risk to students and the community members who regularly use the school. The school has been seeking government funding for roofing upgrades for almost 10 years. In 2018, school council will again be calling on the government to address this issue properly by funding a new roof.

03.01.2022 Westgarth Primary was pleased to welcome Clare Burns to school on a recent visit. Clare is the Victorian Labor candidate in the upcoming Northcote by-election. School Council President, Gary Selwyn, and Principal, Jo Wheeler, briefed Clare on the redevelopment project, and explained that government support is required to progress the project further. ... Clare was interested to learn that enrolments at Westgarth have risen by 68% over the past 10 years, and that 250 kids are now being taught in portables. We thank Clare for her interest, and look forward to working with her to progress this important project.

03.01.2022 Congratulations to local schools, Clifton Hill Primary School, Spensley Street Primary School, Richmond Primary School and Richmond West Primary School which all received funding in this weeks Victorian budget. There was lots of money in the budget for education. However disappointingly, no funding was allocated to the Westgarth Primary School redevelopment. With 70% growth in student enrollments over the past decade, and - with one or two exceptions - no updates to school f...acilities for over 25 years, the school redevelopment project is critical. We will continue to work with Local MPs to advocate for funding.

02.01.2022 Congratulations to Lidia Thorpe, our newly-elected Member for Northcote. Lidia visited Westgarth Primary twice during the campaign, and has been very supportive of our efforts to secure much needed funding for our school redevelopment. We look forward to working closely with her to progress the redevelopment project.

01.01.2022 This will be a fantastic event, and all proceeds go to Westgarth Primary! Don't miss out on a ticket!
