25.01.2022 The future of @WritingNSW is at risk after the latest @createNSW funding decision. Funding for the arts is crucial in times of crisis. Call or write to your local MP member here >> https://writingnsw.org.au/create-nsw-funding-decision/ #SaveWritingNSW #SupportWriters #WritingCommunity

23.01.2022 A slightly different approach to the 'how to hire a copywriter' advice: Five idioms to remember when hiring a copywriter. #copywriter #contentwriting #outsourcing

23.01.2022 I'm no poet, but oh! Amanda Gorman's inauguration poem! The rhythm, the clever plays with rhyme, the imagery, her delivery... so damn moving. This is the power of words. #wordsmatter #copyenergy #poetry https://www.theguardian.com//youth-poet-laureate-amanda-go

23.01.2022 I love this helpful post from The Smarter Writer on knowing when to use 'that' or 'which' in your copy. The real world examples from news websites are even better! 'That vs which' still trips me up sometimes. So much so, there's a whole lotta reading out loud in this office. Great article, Sandra!

21.01.2022 "... your tone of voice plays a big part in how you cut through and connect with your audience." What exactly is a brand's tone of voice in marketing? This article explains it well, with some questions to ask yourself to help you create a voice your audience relates to - equating it to questions an actor may ask of their performance. "Was I convincing?" is an interesting one. How will you know you were convincing until your content - in your brand's tone of voice - is out there being consumed and/or acted upon? #branding #toneofvoice #contentmarketing

20.01.2022 Where To Now? This is the question mulling over in my mind as I officially start the working year. If 2020 taught us anything, it's to expect the unexpected and that plans can be derailed. For 2021, I'm embracing the unpredictable. Loose, not fixed plans. More flow, and energy - not time - management. How about you? Are you planning in the same way or trying new approaches? I'd love to hear about them! #energymanagement #planning

20.01.2022 Working on #health content is one of my specialties - whether it's words that are written *or* spoken. Here's my latest explainer video voice-over, for Performance Health. #voiceover #explainervideo #femalevoiceover #Australianvoiceover #voiceoverartist #voicetalent #videocontentmarketing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7l6LMjhy-MY

18.01.2022 How's the noise level in your workplace? Is working from home noisier than in your office? Do you find excess noise affects your mood and productivity, or can you easily tune it out? And how do you manage it? I'm super sensitive to noise, and living in a neighbourhood with 24/7 construction, plus neighbours having daytime dance parties, it can impact my productivity and amp up my anxiety levels. I've learned to live with it (earplugs, noise-cancelling headphones) but I'm always curious about how noise affects others in their work. You? #mentalhealthatwork #anxiety

15.01.2022 Waiting for my sleep-deprived brain to kick in so it can tell me what my body wants for brekkie. Meanwhile, it's readin'-writin'-woo-woo time. Leonard Cohen's coming at me from the great beyond. Never been a fan, but I'll take his message here: "When it comes to art, all that matters is telling your story well. Travel lightly through the darkness. Learn to live in the intervals between events." Next, a daily writing prompt exercise, and swotting up on memoir structure from Pa...tti Miller's Writing True Stories. If I don't get distracted by chores n stuff. How's your Wednesday shaping up?

13.01.2022 HAPPY NEW YEAR! Here's hoping 2021 is more bearable, and yes, happy, even. It's what we make it though, isn't it? Life happens, and godawful shit happens, but we choose how we respond. There's the challenge! I've been exploring resilience and strategies to achieve it. In part, that's doing the healing work and self reflection - and there's no better time for that than in the change from old year to new. Clean up, clean out, make room.... So I indulge my planner obsession this time of year, and now I'm into stickers, too! This year's theme? Look to the stars, look within, reconnect to my spiritual side, find my place in the bigger picture - and get comfy there (gulp!). I'm diggin' the naked, six-armed, Rapunzel-haired lady sitting cross-legged beneath a zodiac wheel on the cover of this planner. It's dark purple, too - perfect! What better to guide me through even deeper realms this year? How are you feeling about this newly birthed year?

13.01.2022 Not quite sure of the difference between content writing and copywriting? This article explains it well, touching on important points to consider like length, purpose, emotions and SEO. "Content writing involves the creation of text content to educate or entertain readers. It may drive sales as well, but that's not its primary purpose... Copywriting ... persuade[s] readers to take some type of action related to your business's sales process... Another difference between content writing and copywriting is that the latter often invokes an emotional response, while the former does not." #writingtips #contentwriting #copywriting #digitalmarketing

11.01.2022 CUSTOMER SURVEYS. I rarely do them. I don't see the point. You? I get at least one daily, and it seems that brands contacting you after an interaction with 'how did we do?' has become inversely proportional to getting satisfactory, personalised service. Funnily, yesterday I posted some great client feedback I got, but I didn’t harangue them for it. Since then, I got 2 pop-ups in my OneDrive app; the 2nd more pleading than the 1st: Can you *please* rate this app?. Just now, ...an email from my health fund to rate a ‘recent claim experience’ which was entirely automated online. No humans involved. No ‘experience’. Maybe cos I'm older and remember when good service didn't require constant validation, I find these surveys annoying. Sure, I’ll give great feedback when a company goes above and beyond, but for service that’s expected, or automated (like my health fund) Nope! If companies spent the same time and $$ on employing more staff and training them to give good old fashioned service that they devote to creating surveys, maybe they wouldn't need their customers to constantly boost their self-esteem? Just a thought. How do you feel about customer surveys? #customerservice #communication #marketing

10.01.2022 "... the most annoying thing about writing by hand is also what makes it so effective for learning. 'The primary advantage of longhand notes was that it slowed people down' ... When you write by hand, you write more thoughtfully. Such mindful writing rests the brain, unlocking potential creativity ..." I LOVE that! I'm a journaller, so I write long-form by hand most days. And I use a paper, not digital, planner, so I write appointments and tasks by hand too. (I find it faste...r than punching stuff into my phone's calendar!) For client work, study and creative writing though? Strictly keyboard. How about you? How much do you still write by hand? Do you notice if your thoughts move more easily from head to paper or screen depending on how you capture them? https://www.fastcompany.com//the-psychological-benefits-of

07.01.2022 I loved working on the copy for this website and I'm thrilled to see it go live - ready for the new year! If learning to sing is on your 2021 goals list, I recommend Kathleen Connell. She doesn't just teach you to sing, she helps you master your voice as an instrument, your craft as a performer. https://kathleenconnell.com.au/

07.01.2022 Some days, I just can't... I'd planned to batch social posts today, and work on a side project. I sent one invoice to a client, walked the dog and did 1 Instagram post before being derailed by a flare-up of neck and back pain. Some days ya just gotta accept you won't tick everything off your To Do list. Or bin the damn list! ... I'm stepping away from the desk to flop horizontally somewhere. In the meantime, here's a magpie fetching lunch for his chicks who we've been watching grow these last few weeks. Nature knows how to ebb and flow... #chronicpain #scoliosis #reallife

06.01.2022 Who doesn’t love some praise? This lovely client testimonial popped into my inbox this afternoon: WriteNOISE was recommended as being good at developing relevant, easy-to-read web content. I got this and more. Virginia was easy to interact with, made sure she knew my website story then set about developing content that's simple to understand, addresses what I want and portrays my business with purpose and clarity. Thank you. ... I love asking clients the questions that dig deep into their brand story, their offerings and their customers. That’s how you get the goods to write content that speaks FOR the client and TO their audience. I love it even more when my clients love the results! Check out those results, in web copy I wrote for this client here: https://smarthabitat.com.au/ #webcopywriter #happyclient #sydneycopywriter #contentwriter #digitalmarketing #testimonial #copywritingprocess #wordsmatter

05.01.2022 Bogged down by your blogging? I know the feeling, trust me. I don't exactly blog regularly on my own website. Partly because I don’t want to replicate the kinda content I see on other copywriter blogs and also... it takes time and energy, you know? Yes, each of us has our own take on a topic, but I still feel I’d be reinventing the wheel, adding to the noise. See, if I’m not fired up by a topic, you’re not gonna be fired up to read it, right? Let’s just say I put the SLOOOW...WWW in slow content. As you’d know, brainstorming ideas takes time and brain power you don’t always have, because you get busy actually doing work for your clients. I love collaborating with *my* clients, freeing them up to work with *their* clients. Nutting out ideas and writing the blog content itself that gets them noticed and gets readers engaged. So, when I get feedback like this? Priceless! If you need a hand to lift you out of your blog bog, get in touch! #contentmarketing #blogwriter #copywriter #businessblog #slowcontent

03.01.2022 Giving myself a day off from writing client stories, to study the craft of writing my own. Thrilled to be starting Patti Miller's Life Writing course this Friday, through Australian Writers' Centre, and you could say I'm cramming various influences before lesson 1.
