25.01.2022 A circular system happening right here in Perth! This planters soil is boosted using the compost made from food scraps and compostable packaging we have collected from businesses around Perth. The nutrients will help to grow a wonderful crop of strawberries () - closing the loop of waste! Food waste does not belong in landfill. Is your business composting... #writesolutions #compostingbusiness #compostingcafe #perthcafe #circulareconomy

24.01.2022 We have an army of litter pickers at our hands and we didn’t even know!

24.01.2022 Have you seen similar packaging around? The clamshell is made from sugar cane and is certified home compostable making it easy for the consumer to dispose of. However the coffee cup has a bioplastic lining which means it is only certified commercially compostable. Further, not everyone has a home compost, so what can be done? Public compost bins are still a while up the road, however many of the hospitality businesses we work with will accept their compostable packaging back ...to be composted and even have a compost bin out front for you to use. The more we raise awareness around what compostable packaging is the closer we get to public compost bins. #wastewarriors #wastewisewa #organicwasteservice #wastecontamination #perthhappenings #writesolutions

22.01.2022 Don’t bag it and don’t box it! It may be one of the most common mistakes with recycling. Make sure your recyclables are loose in the bin (this means taking those beer bottles out from the cardboard carton despite the easy storage and transportation...). When recyclables are sent to the Material Recovery Facilities they need to be loose to be able to be sorted. If items are found bagged or boxed they will be knocked out of the sorting process and sent to landfill.... #recyclingtip #recycleright #wastecontamination #understandingrecycling

22.01.2022 Lightening your inbox just became all the more attractive... According to research by McAfee 78% of incoming emails are spam - 68 trillion worldwide annually. This requires 33bn KWh of electricity annually - the equivalent of powering almost 4 million homes* for the year (this includes the energy to sort through spam). Standard spam filtering can save 40% of spam energy use, and state-of-the-art spam systems can reach a 75% reduction.... Next week we will touch base on the footprint of a standard email and why short text-like emails should be avoided. *Using the standard energy use for RedEnergys household B. #writesolutions #reducereuserecycle #wastemanagement #lifestylechange #carbonfootprint

21.01.2022 Have you seen the wonderful campaign driven by @waplasticfree to reduce the prevalence of single use plastic here in Perth? They are assisting businesses to make the change to reusable or compostable products as well as encouraging the community to take the time to dine in instead of taking away. #writesolutions #waplasticfree #plasticfreeplaces #perthlife #circulareconomy

20.01.2022 Like bins, mental health should never be closeted away. Globally, the rate of suicide is alarmingly high, particularly in men. Too many men are ‘toughing it out’, keeping their feelings to themselves and struggling in silence. @Movember is aiming to reduce the rate of male suicide 25% by 2030, and I want to help them get there. Click the link below to contribute to the cause.... Help me stop men dying too young. https://au.movember.com/mospace/14420619?firstvisit=true

20.01.2022 We can’t say how important it is that your recyclables don’t have food residue. You should feel confident enough to have a box of recyclables sitting in your cupboard for a week and not have an ‘off’ smell develop. If you worry about using water rinse them out at the end of a dish wash with the leftover water or fill up a partially full dishwasher with them.... #recyclablematerials #recycleright #recyclingtip #recyclingplastic #writesolutions

19.01.2022 Welcome In Season to the #organicrevolution! @inseason_onwalcott is a local produce supplier for hospitality and food manufacturing businesses across Perth. We are working with In Season to establish a sustainable waste system, composting their organic scraps and recycling their pallet wrap. They have an open market on Sundays so why not pop in and grab some delicious fresh and seasonal produce!... #inseason #inseasononwalcott #perthmarket #walocalproduce #writesolutions #wastewisewa

18.01.2022 Did you see we had our first delivery of compost for retail today? We sent out some bags to Hollywood Hospital in Nedlands and @theorangeboxkiosk in North Fremantle where they will be available for staff and customer purchase! #recycleright #keepaustraliabeautiful #perthhappenings #circulareconomy #waronwaste #recyclinginwa #writesolutions

18.01.2022 Most products whether in our grocery stores or retail stores come wrapped in soft plastic. Soft plastic cannot go in our home recycling bins so what can be done with it? Out the front of Coles and Woolworths there are around bins labelled as RedCycle bins - these are for your soft plastics. Here are some examples of soft plastics that can be REDCycled. I would f it is SCRUNCHABLE, CLEAN and DRY it can be Redcycled. ... #writesolutions #recyclingtip #conciousconsumer #recycleright #understandingwaste

15.01.2022 Cigarettes are the most polluting item globally. About 4.5 trillion are discarded each year and cause severe impacts on wildlife and the environment. Cigarettes leach toxic chemicals into water (which can remain for up to a decade), shed micro plastics, and are often consumed by wildlife. We thought this was a pretty cool way to encourage disposal. Photo credit @nmcsbarcelona via @get.waste.ed ... #writesolutions #keepaustraliabeautiful #cigarettebutts #litter #circulareconomy

15.01.2022 It’s planting season! But what comes with setting up garden begs and pots for seedlings? Lots of soil and compost bags. The past few weeks we have focused on what you can RedCycle and these bags are another material which to add to that list. Getting the pesky soil residue out from the bags can be a bit of a hassle but watch our stories to see how you can easily do so without wasting either the residue or water!... Then simply hang them up on the washing line to dry! #producesticker #composting #wastecontamination #fruitandveg

14.01.2022 Recycling is ever evolving - you don’t learn how to recycle once and know how to recycle for life. If you do one thing this weekend we ask that you check the Recycle Right app if you live in WA. Recycling changes and it is very easy to make a simple mistake based of what may have been ingrained in you for years.... Do it now, and do it with a friend or family member. Then get them to ask another friend or family member to do so too! #recycleright #keepaustraliabeautiful #perthhappenings #circulareconomy #waronwaste #recyclinginwa

13.01.2022 @bunnings commits to sizzling sausages and not the planet! (Yes we did steal this Tagline from @greenpeaceap but it was too good not to!) By 2025 Bunnings will source 100% of their energy from renewables. This will involve improving energy efficiency, and installing solar panels, wind turbines and batteries to stores across Australia. Now we know they still have a way to go in terms of waste management and sustainable product sourcing but this is well and truly a step in the... right direction from a large company. #renewableenergy #bunningssnag #bunningssausage #bunningstrip #writesolutions

11.01.2022 Consumer behaviours have changed in the last quarter of a century, they can change again. Let’s turn this stat around and rethink fashion: how we buy clothes, how we wear our clothes, and how we repair or alter our clothes. Shop second hand or clothes swap to update your wardrobe. This is a great way to freshen up your wardrobe without the environmental footprint of purchasing new.... Buy once, buy well. Do your research and invest in a multi use, well designed item. Buying good quality makes a world of difference, and think of a variety of ways the item can be worn to get good bang for your buck. Learn some basic sewing skills. Simply being able to adjust a hem, reattach a button, or bring in a waist band can not only extend the life of a garment but refresh the look. After all that’s where the term ‘cutoffs’ came from! #writesolutions #fastfashion #sustainablefashion #perthlife #circulareconomy

10.01.2022 Any guesses as to what the pipes are for? For those of you that compost at home you would know that a vital ingredient to effective composting is aeration. In the commercial composting method we use, windrow composting, the waste is placed over these pipes which blow air up through the pile. This ensures that enough oxygen is supplied and the food waste and compostable packaging effectively break down.... #saveourplanet #saveplanetearth #environment #futuregenerations #composting

08.01.2022 These have been flying out of the warehouse over the past few months! Customisable to suit all venues and a diverse range of waste streams the Method Recycling range is nicknamed our ‘sexy’ bin range for a reason. #recyclingstation #keepaustraliabeautiful #perthhappenings #circulareconomy #waronwaste #methodrecycling

07.01.2022 Have you met Tom? We have recently been working with @theorangeboxkiosk and last month Tom was introduced. Tom is a hungry organics bin and is always ready to be fed any of the compostable packaging or food scraps from the cafe. He is great for controllable areas with a high volume of waste and is a part of our Orwak Equipment range.... @theorangeboxkiosk is also capturing any of the organic waste produced in the preparation of your delicious breakky, lunch or morning tea. #theorangebox #writesolutions #leightonbeach #compostablepackaging #organicwaste

07.01.2022 Do you check the number on your plastics prior to recycling? There are over seven different types of plastic which are identified with the numbers 1 through to 7 within the recycling emblem. Here in WA only numbers 1, 2, and 5 are accepted in residential and commercial recycling streams.... Most of your rigid plastics will be one of these three types of plastics: HDPE, PET or PP. #recycleright #recyclingtip #recycling #recycleright #wastewisewa #writesolutions

06.01.2022 I spy... It is important for us to follow up with our clients any contamination we find. As new staff join a business it is critical they are run through the waste systems used as often we find increases in contamination, such as incorrect use of bin liners, as a result of information not being passed on to new staff. These liners are a common mistake as often they have the words ‘degradable’, ‘eco-friendly’ or ‘green’ upon them misleading consumers that they are suitable fo...r composting. #reducereuserecycle #commercialcompost #compostingbusiness #wastemanagement #writesolutions

05.01.2022 One flea treatment for a medium sized dog with imidacloprid contains enough pesticide to kill 60 million bee’s. Research from the UK shows fipronil in 99% of samples taken from 20 rivers, fipronil sulfone in 97% and imidacloprid was found in 66%. Toxicity levels were 5, 38 and 7 times the limit respectively. The researchers propose a need for new regulation. Unfortunately we couldn’t find any other suggestions to lessen the impact.... #doggosofperth #perthdoggo #fleatreatment #fleas #insecticide #writesolutions

03.01.2022 A reminder that the waste hierarchy goes: Reduce Reuse Recycle... Every little bit that we do to keep materials within a cycle of use the less energy, water and finite resources we use. Is there something that you are currently focusing on to reduce your impact? #writesolutions #reducereuserecycle #wastemanagement #lifestylechange #zerowastelifestyle

02.01.2022 Tissue’s, paper towel and napkins. These are quite a common waste item whether you at at home, in an office or hospitality environment. All tissues, napkins and paper towel are accepted in our compost service and are also perfect for a home compost. Please do not ever recycle!... They add to the necessary element of carbon in the composting process, balancing the nitrogen from food scraps. #perthcafe #coffeeinperth #perthbarista #circulareconomy #writesolutions

01.01.2022 A big element of developing a circular economy is ensuring that products stay in use for a long period of time. With the price of goods becoming cheaper it can be tempting to just buy new, however the monetary cost isn’t the only cost to new products - there will always be an environmental cost. Repair cafes are volunteer organisations whereby community members can drop in to one of the events with an item in need of repair and a handy volunteer will work their magic!... You can take anything from clothing, to ornaments, small technology items, and nick-nacks. Of course there is no guarantee of repair but well worth the shot we say, as the success rate seems pretty high at the events we’ve been to. #repaircafe #repaircafeperth #communityevent #circulareconomy #writesolutions

01.01.2022 The heat is back and with it can come stinky bins. We are a distributer of Bin Bombs which are a natural bin deodoriser created by a local Perth couple and we can’t recommend them more! We use them in our own bins after cleaning to keep our warehouse smelling fresh and often you will find them in the bottom of a newly delivered bin. They look similar to cat litter and a small scoop in the bottom of an empty bin will help keep smells at bay and deter pests. After a while the s...cent will absorb into the plastic of the bin and reduce the need for reapplication after the bin is emptied. If you would like to give them a go flick us a message. #binbombs #recyclingtip #recycling #organicwaste #wastewisewa #writesolutions
