21.01.2022 Good looking pair of coaches at central on rail replacement coach work this weekend. Thank goodness for plenty of rail work this year. Would have been quiet without

14.01.2022 #Throwback Thursday. Western Road Liners Pty Ltd (WRL) at Parkes is a second generation family business that has served the Western New South Wales town of Park...es since 1975. In May of that year, Peter McQuie and Merv Hennock joined forces to take over Reg Waser's Bus Lines with 7 vehicles. The duo parted ways in 1980, McQuie continuing with WRL and Hennock relocating to Forbes, where the family continues to operate Forbes Bus Lines. WRL went from strength to strength in the 1980's, building a coach operation based on the Denning marque and later Austral. The company conducted its own touring programme, held mine contracts and touring contracts with Thomas Cook, Jetset Tours, Evergreen Tours, Golden Age Holidays and others. Their own express coach division formed under the name Trans City Express. A brief foray into bus ownership in Sydney occurred in early 1986, when WRL took over route 64 (Bundeena township) from Golden Tours, allowing the company to enter the Sydney charter market in the days prior to deregulation. After peaking in size during the 1980's, WRL contracted after the demise of the Australian express coach industry. WRL has gradually taken over the majority of bus services in Parkes, culminating in the take over of Harris Bus Lines on 1 May 2006 with 17 vehicles. The company has continued to serve the town with their Parkes town service, rural school runs and a small charter/touring fleet. In 2021, the McQuie family will celebrate their 50th year in the industry, reflecting Peter McQuie's purchase of the Parkes - Back Yamma school run from Percy Jones in 1971, four years prior to establishing Western Road Liners. Thank you Peter and Chris for accommodating us bus enthusiasts for so many decades.
