08.01.2022 CASE STUDY - A LOCAL BUSINESS MAN What happened The 2019 New Years Eve Lake Conjola Bushfires destroyed the home of one of our clients.... The Resolution / Action WSIB were immediately in contact with our client and just two days after the event we met with them to get the process started and discuss their coverage. Following this and just a matter of days later the assessor visited the premises to assess the damage on behalf of the insurer. Identifiable in the clients policy were further additional benefits that we advocated were triggered. This resulted in a payout higher than their sum insured. Conclusion... 01.01.2022 CASE STUDY - AGED CARE FACILITY What happened... A ceiling within our clients’ facility collapsed following a bushfire that was bordering their property. The insurer’s assessor claimed the collapse was due to general wear and tear and were declining to payout the claim. ... The Resolution / Action... WSIB challenged the insurer’s decision and had an independent builder inspect the site who reported that the ceiling had been in good condition for 15 years leading up to this event with no major issues and that the collapse was a direct result of extreme heat from the fire. The insurer’s decision was overturned and they paid out the claim with a cash settlement. Conclusion... This outcome shows the benefit of using an insurance broker and having access to a dedicated claims department that can use their experience to challenge the decision of an insurer where necessary.
