22.01.2022 Today is world Hepatitis Day. Hepatitis in our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities is a preventable disease with both short term and potentially ...chronic implications. Hepatitis has a significant impact on our mobs health and we need to work together to ensure we practice prevention in our communities, but also that we get tested and detect the disease earlier and have access to best practice treatment and management. Visit one of our local Apunipima clinics for a screening. #OurHealthInOurHands #WorldHepatitisDay #FindTheMissingMillions

20.01.2022 COVID-19 With the announced hard closure of the Queensland/NSW border from Saturday we are getting heaps of enquiries about Cape York closures. At this point in time there has been no indication from government that the Cape will be closed down again. This could change at any time but if all Queenslanders continue to do the right thing it is less likely. REMEMBER Social Distancing, hand and cough hygiene and most important if you have even slight symptoms STAY HOME and GET TESTED

20.01.2022 A message from Tahlia O'Brien from Education Queensland I will now be arriving in Wujal Wujal on Monday 16th November at approximately 930am Mayor Bradley will be organising community members to meet at the mango tree near council at 10am. ... The questions we will be focusing on during the community meeting are: 1. Why is engagement with the school important? 2. What is working well? (in regards to existing relationships, educational practices etc) 3. What can be improved? 4. How would you like to see the school and community working together (as an ideal future) In the afternoon, we can continue any additional individual/small group consults with community (if appropriate). 18.01.2022 Statewide testing blitz (Cairns Esplanade pop up fever clinic) Since 10 July, anyone who enters Queensland from another state must sign a declaration saying the...y will get tested if they develop COVID-19 symptoms. Visitors who develop symptoms and dont get tested can be fined $4004. This new requirement also applies to Queenslanders who have been interstate and return to Queensland. As part of a statewide testing blitz, mobile testing clinics and pop-up clinics will be set up in high tourism destinations to allow visitors to get tested quickly if they develop symptoms. Last weekend, CHHHS had a pop-up COVID-19 testing clinic at the Cairns Esplanade near the lagoon. Additional pop-up clinics are being planned.

10.01.2022 Photo: CEO Stephen Wilton and Kindergarten Manager Coraleen Shipton with Wujal Wujal local children and donated gifts from Coles Innisfail. Recently the Manager of the Coles Supermarket in Innisfail, Lynn Lees faced a problem due to the travel restrictions bought on by the COVID-19 coronavirus. Staff at the store normally collect the small toys that come in magazines and send them to a community down south. This was not possible with the restrictions in place. When staff memb...er Joyce Kelly mentioned this to her sister-in-law Tracey, Tracey told her she knew the Wujal Wujal Council CEO, and a solution to their problem was found. Long story short, two boxes of the small toys and books were delivered by Steve to the Wujal Wujal Kindergarten this week. Kindergarten Manager Coraleen Shipton and the kids were happy to receive the donated gifts and thank Coles Innisfail for their generosity.
