24.01.2022 According to the TCM facial diagnosis theory, diagnostic significance of five colors implicates the correlation between five colors of facial skin and diseases. That is, the changes of facial colors can reveal pathological changes of different viscera and bowels with different natures. In addition, the lustre or gloss of skin refers to the reflective, shiny, and smooth characteristics of facial skin which can help TCM experts to understand the states of visceral and bowels a...nd the severity degrees of diseases. Besides, different from normal color, morbid color could be reflected on one's face on the condition that the pathological changes of five internal viscera (these are heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidney). The morbid color is classified to five colors: reddened facial color, bluish facial color, yellow facial color, pale facial color, and darkish facial color. Their correlation with syndrome in TCM can be simply stated as follows: - reddened color implies heat syndrome -bluish color represents blood stasis syndrome -yellow color suggests dampness syndrome -pale color indicates deficiency syndrome and cold syndrome - darkish color hints cold syndrome, blood stasis syndrome, fluid-retention syndrome, and the deficiency of kidney syndrome Furthermore, various lustre or gloss of skin also manifests different states of diseases. For example, if a patient is considered normal and with healthy facial color, the gloss of skin would be always bright and moist; that is, glossy skin indicates that patient is healthy. However, for the morbid color patient, the gloss of skin reflects the severity of diseases. 23.01.2022 Cupping is a therapy used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to remove stagnation and stimulate the flow of qi. Qi is the free flow of vital energy circulating through the body and the world around us, if the qi is disrupted or disturbed, it can create stagnation or imbalances in the body. In a recent press release, the NIH referred to a2015 systematic review and meta-analysisof cupping that concluded, cupping could be effective in treating the pain and disability assoc...iated with chronic neck pain and chronic low-back pain in the shortterm. In a study of 70 patients suffering from tension and migraine headaches, the application of wet-cupping improved 95 percent of the cases reducing the severity of the headaches by an average of 66 percent, and the patients experienced the equivalent of 12.6 fewer days of headache per month.Unquestionably, those results indicate cupping is a very safe and powerful non-pharmacological approach. In 2010, Chinese researchers performed a systematic review of cupping literature identifying 4,696 citations, paring down to 550 clinical studies, the majority of which evaluated cupping therapy for pain conditions. The researchers concluded that themajority of studies show potential benefit on pain conditions, herpes zoster and other diseases. However, further rigorous designed trials in relevant conditions are warranted to support their use in practice. This same group of researchers evaluated eight RCT’s involving 651 patients on wet-cupping therapy for the treatment of herpes zoster. The meta-analysis found that the wet-cupping therapy was superior to western medication, and also reduced the incidence of post-herpetic neuralgia. The data unequivocally show that cupping therapy is far from a placebo, however further investigations must be performed in order to fully understand its mechanism of action. 23.01.2022 The use of mind-body therapies, such as tai chi, yoga, qigong, and meditation are well-studied, and frequently reported as a means of coping with anxiety and depression. Psychological benefits from regular qigong training include antidepressant effects,increased self-efficacy, and stress reduction. Despite these findings, there is little knowledge of the impact of qigong exercise on an elite athlete’s physical and mental states during training. Therefore,a re conducted a st...udy to determinethe efficacy of qigong to facilitate strength gainsand wellbeing in collegiate athletes. The aim of the study was to find out if qigong could be used to increase strength in collegiate athletes, with the potential to improve sport performance and reduce likelihood of injury. Seventy-three athletes (47M, 26F, 18-22 years old) volunteered to participate in the study, and were divided into a qigong exercise group or a standard care group. Each group underwent the same prescribed weight training program, which consisted of eight weeks of training, four days per week. Strength gains were measured through a vertical jump test and a 3RM front squat, bench press, and deadlift before and after the program. Wellbeing was measured through a questionnaire, which was administered before, weekly, and after the weight training program. In addition to the training program and questionnaire, the qigong group performed qigong exercises five days a week for fifteen minutes each day. The qigong group’s average strength values were higher versus the controlfor bench press (+ 52%; P= 0.00), deadlift (+15%; P= 0.09), front squat (+28%; P= 0.004), and vertical jump (+52%, P= 0.223). The qigong group also had a higher average overall wellbeing score (+6%; P= 0.00). 19.01.2022 Last night's Tao Te Ching discussion of chapter 8. , , , . ... , , ,, , , , ,. Like Water Highest good is like water. Water is good at benefitting all things without contending. It flows to places where people detest so it is almost like Tao. It is tranquil in dwelling. It is deep in heart. It is benevolent in dealing with others. It is trustworthy in functioning. It is good in governing. It is capable of undertaking, It is timely in action. As it does not contend, there is no resentment. Take home notes. No matter what external forces water is subjected to, it never loses its property. If it freezes it waits patiently until warmth melts it away to resume it's purpose. If it evaporates it does not hold on or resend the fire, it adapts and transforms, still flowing and completing it's task. It provides life to all beings and all plants without contending nor asking for thanks, it simply goes about its way without attachment or expectation. It always flows through the path of least resistance yet does not stop it's way if there is obstruction. It bends and thrashes as it needs and when it needs to keep its true nature. Remember we humans are 70-80% water. If we can find the quality of water in our life we will be able to feel more in tune with our true nature rather than our mind/ego. Next time your at the ocean a stream or a river, meditate on the quality of water and how it can teach you about your own true nature and how to flow more with the Tao.

ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that is characterised by cognitive disabilities such as inattention, impulsivity and/or hyperactivity. In Australia over 800,000 individuals are said to experience one or more symptoms of ADHD with 1 in 20 children below the age of 7 years old suffering from the condition... Organic oolong tea is described as slightly fermented and semi-oxidized,and as a result has a taste that falls between these two types of tea. Current research has revealed the bio-chemical and pharmaceutical properties of Oolong tea to be strongly linked to itshigh amount of antioxidants called polyphenols, which include theaflavins, thearubig...ins and Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Another beneficial component in it is theanine, an amino acid with relaxing properties. The polyphenols in oolong tea help control fat metabolism in the body by activating certain enzymes. 11.01.2022 2nd post from my ADHD research. This research involves Taijiquan and Qigong for children with ADHD. The basic principle of Taichi Chuan is yin-yang balance and deficiency-excess change, which share the same principles... as TCM theories. Only when one follows the ideas of yin-yang and deficiency-excess in TCM can one attain the acme of perfection in taijiquan. Taijiquan features slow movements of both dynamic andstatic forms. By exercising breathing and body movements, Taijiquan activates and harmonize qi-blood. Every form and motion of tai chi chuan is guided by thought (Yi-nian) and combined with slowly regulated breathing to synchronize both the inner and outer uni-verse and to improve mental concentration. An integration of diaphragmatic breathing(deep, full, and shallow) and body movements (slow, gentle, graceful) can quell inner restlessness, quiet the mind, and slowly transfer the underlying distracting thoughts into the tai chi chuan postures that concentrate attention. Long-term practicing Tai chi improves attention, reduces hot temper, anxiety, and irritability and thereby alleviates ADHD symptoms. There have been few clinical trials using tai chi chuan for the treatment of ADHD. Wen 56 randomized ADHD children into a tai chi chuan group (16 cases) and a control group (14 cases). In a 12-week training program, taiwas practiced 3 times per week for 45 minutes. The forms practiced were modified from the Chen-tai-chi old style. The tai chi chuan group was superior to the control group in reducing hyperactivity and aggressiveness and improving vestibular function, proprioception, and learning abilities. Hernandez-Reif and colleagues observed 13 adolescents with ADHD practicing taijiquan twice a week for 5 weeks. The adolescents displayed improvement in anxiety, daydreaming, inappropriate emotions, hyperactivity, and conduct disorder, which persisted at the 2-week posttreatment follow-up. 06.01.2022 Jng is the Chinese word for "essence", specificallykidneyessence. Along withqìandshén, it is considered one of theThree Treasures(Sanbao)oftraditional Chinese medicineor TCM. According to tradition, Jng is stored in the kidneys and is the most dense physical matter within the body (as opposed to shén which is the most volatile). ... It is said to be the material basis for the physical body and isynin nature, which means it nourishes, fuels, and cools the body. As such it is an important concept in theinternal martial arts. Jng is also believed by some to be the carrier of our heritage (similar toDNA). Production of semen, in the man, and menstrual blood (or pregnancy), in the woman, are believed to place the biggest strains on jng. Because of this, some even equate jng with semen, but this is inaccurate; the jng circulates through the eight extraordinary vessels and creates marrow and semen, among other functions The characteristics which constitute signs of good Jing (e.g. facial structure, teeth, hair, strength of adrenals or kidneys) share the embryological origin of neural crest cells. These cells undergo immense and challenging cellular migrations requiring great organisation. As such, Jing may simply represent the strength of embryological self-organisation in the organism. This will be manifestated most strongly in those cells which require most organisation; that is, the neural crest cells. One is said to be born with a fixed amount ofjng(prenataljngis sometimes calledyuanqi) and also can acquirejngfrom food and various forms of stimulation (exercise, study, meditation.) Theoretically,jngis consumed continuously in life; by everyday stress, illness, substance abuse, sexual intemperance, etc. Prenataljngis very difficult to be renewed, and it is said it is completely consumed upon dying. Jng is therefore considered quite important for longevity in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM); many disciplines related toqìgngare devoted to the replenishment of "lost" jng by restoration of the post-natal jng. In particular, the internal martial arts (esp.T'ai chi ch'uan) and the Circle Walking ofBaguazhang.

05.01.2022 Acupuncture and CHM is often combined with outer therapeutic modalities such as Qigong and Taijiquan. Taijiquan and Qigong play an important role in paediatric health as they provide a cost-effective, extracurricular activity that supports the child’s personal and social development. In a pilot study, a combination of TCM exercise was taught to four selected children aged between six and ten diagnosed with ADHD. The main goal of the study was to understand if these exercise m...odalities had any effect in reducing symptoms and improving academic productivity. Results gathered by the Achenbach Teachers Report Form was impressive with an overall improvement of 43% in academic productivity. Qualitative results revealed significant improvements in school commitment and grades but most importantly the students showed a positive response to practice, pleasure, and perception of regular TCM exercise with a likelihood of future commitment. 04.01.2022 Trees are the ultimate manifestation the element of Wood. Wood is considered the first element, corresponding to spring, and referred to as young yang. It covers and penetrates the earth, growing, rooted, and proliferating outwards. Wood is flexible, yielding, strong and durable. It expands away from its center, grasping the Earth and drawing it toward heaven. Wood burns to make fire. The bodily organ systems that correspond to Wood are the Liver (yin) and Gallbladder (yang...). The Liver makes two liters of bile daily and ensures free flowing energy throughout the body. The gallbladder works with liver, and stores bile. In the physical body, the element of Wood governs the inner legs, groin, diaphragm, eyes, eyebrows and lashes, ring finger, tendons, ligaments, sinews, connective tissue, nails, small muscles that move joints, peripheral nerves, vagina and labia, penis and scrotum. Bile and tears are the fluids governed by The Wood Element. The liver is said to be the home of the soul. Physical imbalances associated with Wood may manifest as acne, boils, eczema, visual problems, bloating, breast cysts and tenderness, constipation, hemorrhoids, flatulence, fatigue, morning grogginess, nerve tension, painful and irregular periods, headaches and migraines, muscle pain, weak and brittle nails, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and seasonal allergies. Emotions associated with Wood involve anger, aggression, irritability, repressing emotions, frustration, impatience, impulsive, rigid and negative attitude, and nervous tension aswell as depression and inability to make plans.
