23.01.2022 For anyone out there with asthma don't forget to keep your inhaler in your pocket during these storms.

22.01.2022 So I decided to take the drone out to the silo and survey it for firefighting purposes and after all my hard work I worked out I need 15 ladders and "LOTS" of duct tape. I was asked to see these so if anyone is interested they are of our silo as I'm sure the locals all know. Some have been cut to size for Facebook cover photos. Disclaimer: this is not how we fight fires if we did worksafe would have us on speed dial and probably a permanent I want to slap you look.

21.01.2022 WUNGHNU RESIDENTS HAVE YOUR SAY! There are a number of tall plants and shrubs located at George Graham Park that provide a heavy screen, obscuring the playground, toilets and creek. Moira Shire Council's Parks and Town Maintenance team are proposing the removal of the large plants, replacing them with some crepe myrtles and other small ground cover plants that will allow the park to showcase its beauty. In doing this, vision both in and out of the park will be improved, incre...asing safety and also encouraging people to stop into the park as they are travelling through Wunghnu. Would you like to see the removal of the larger plants and shrubs that are currently screening the park (with them being replaced with smaller alternatives)? Please vote through the link below, or visit Wunghnu Wreckers or the Wunghnu Cafe to fill out a voting slip. Voting closes on Tuesday 7 July. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/WunghnuPark This is a Moira Shire Council project only. This post has been shared at the request of the Shire.

19.01.2022 Hi all, just a reminder that as of tonight 11:59pm on Sunday 2 August everyone in the state of Victoria must wear a face covering whenever they leave home unless an exemption applies. This is because of the higher rates of community transmission of coronavirus there. https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/face-masks-covid-19 Wearing a mask can help protect you and those around you if you are in an area with community transmission, and physical distancing is not possible, like on public ...transport. While a mask can be used as an extra precaution, you must continue to: 1. Stay at home if unwell 2. Maintain physical distance (more than 1.5m) from other people, when out 3. Avoid large gatherings and crowded indoor spaces 4. Practise hand and respiratory hygiene

19.01.2022 Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic Wunghnu Fire Brigade has had to diversify it's recruiting.

19.01.2022 Wunghnu & District Community Plan Steering Committee. Meeting minutes 24th February. Next meeting 23rd March 6pm.... Members of the Wunghnu & District Community Plan Steering Committee met on Wednesday 24 February at the Wunghnu Bowls Club the first meeting in 12 months due to COVID-19. The committee discussed the successful application of a hydration station through GV Water’s grant program (the unit will be installed in the park in the coming months), as well as a proposal for a potential market at the Wunghnu Rec Reserve. The committee reviewed the data collected at the Community Brunch in November 2019, and saw that most of it is still relevant. There were conversations around the tourism benefits of painting of the water tower or silos, history signage and a walking track through town, cleaning up of the creek front and road sealing. Next meeting, the committee will be electing office bearers to the positions of president, vice president and secretary. Please think about whether you would like to take one of these positions on. Volunteer inductions need to be completed by all members of the committee for more information about this, please contact Dana at Moira Shire Council on 5871 9222. We will be writing the Wunghnu & District Community Plan Vision next meeting. Please have a think about Wunghnu & District into the future and note some words or ideas that you would like the community to be known for. Our next meeting will be on Tuesday 23 March, 6pm at the Wunghnu Bowls Club. All welcome.

13.01.2022 Hi all. Don't forget to keep up to date with all the latest information on the covid-19 pandemic.

11.01.2022 Don't forgot to get your flute or chimney cleaned every winter.

08.01.2022 We would like to thank Chief Fire Officer Steve Warrington for his many years of service to the CFA but also for looking after the fire service during all this uncertainty. CFA Chief Officer and CEO Steve Warrington AFSM tendered his resignation, which the CFA Board has accepted. Steve has given more than forty years of dedicated service to the CFA and Victorian community. He has served the organisation and the people of Victoria with passion, skill and warmth.... Steve Warrington began his service as a CFA volunteer at Chelsea brigade in 1978 before joining the staff as a career firefighter in 1983. He continued volunteering alongside his staff role for another 14 years, demonstrating outstanding commitment to both firefighting roles. Steve has been with CFA through Ash Wednesday, the 2009 Victorian Fires and provided strong, expert leadership through the recent 2019/20 fires, minimising the loss of lives and property. Steve was appointed Chief Officer of the CFA in 2016 also accepted the concurrent role of CEO in 2019. He was awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal in 2017. See more

07.01.2022 Well this one goes without saying but any electrical items that were not designed to be used near water shouldn't be in bathrooms due to the potential to case death or injury. The chart in the second photo is a good way to work out the the likelihood of injury and the possible consequences.

06.01.2022 Don't forget to take a moment of silence today for our diggers.

05.01.2022 Many shed and garage fires are caused by bad housekeeping having a mixture of chemicals together like flammable liquids/gas, oxidating agents and explosive material. All this can be solved by just having a small shed away from the house and separate conflicting chemicals to minimize exposure and injury. Also if you do have a fire and suspect there are chemicals involved tell the emergency operator what you think is in there, don't attempt putting it our just stand well clear and give any info you have to the fire service on arrival.

04.01.2022 It's always nice to see the community showing love to our first responders after major bushfires but I didn't expect with all the hate going around that during this pandemic there is love for all our services involved in protecting Victorian's right now.

03.01.2022 FIRE RESTRICTIONS As of monday 23/11/20 at 00:01 Fire Restrictions Are Now In Force for all of moira shire.
