25.01.2022 We had an extremely successful sale on Thursday with 100% clearance of 174 rams, an average of $1545 and top of $3100 for Lot 17. In addition, Lots 19, 20 and 20A were sold as Stud Rams. This really was an exceptional result, the best sale we have had in 18 years of sales and over 33 years of breeding. We would like to sincerely thank our clients and supporters who were able to be present on the day, as well as the interest online from AuctionsPlus. It really was a bit overwhelming and also ever so pleasing that we had our biggest crowd and largest field of purchasers in the middle of Covid. It gives us great confidence that our rams are doing their job for our clients and that the stud is moving in the right direction. Thanks again, and we wish everyone all the best for the remainder of the season. #wunnamurraramsbreedbetterlambs

24.01.2022 Finally a movie for the sheep producer! They could have at least cast a Poll Dorset as the lead ram!!

24.01.2022 We had a very successful ram sale today, clearance of 125/165, top of $1900 for Lot 15 and average of $961 which is a great result considering the dry year. Thank you to everyone who came for a look or purchased rams, it was great to catch up! #wunnamurraramsbreedbetterlambs

24.01.2022 It’s been a while since our last post so we thought we would look back on a couple of property improvements we made earlier on in February. Due to the drought we replaced 1.5km of fencing and extended a dam, which was quite fortuitous as we were able to fill it last week from the recent off-allocation water, which was very pleasing! But the prize goes to the new sheep ramp into the shearing shed, it’s fantastic! I had forgotten how nice it is to work with timber! #wunnamurraramsbreedbetterlambs

24.01.2022 A few of the latest arrivals to the stud! Another lovely photo from Bel's Rural Photography #wunnamurraramsbreedbetterlambs

23.01.2022 We had a couple of pet lambs this year, they’re always so fun to watch, forever getting up to mischief and chewing everything! Does anyone else have any pet lamb pics?#wunnamurraramsbreedbetterlambs

15.01.2022 From The Rural's ram guide Wunnamurra Poll Dorset Stud at Jerilderie is offering 170 Lambplan-tested rams at its on-property sale held at 11am Thursday, Septemb...er 17 with inspections from 9am. Wunnamurra's Andrew Gillett said the sale "for the serious lamb producer" is going ahead as planned despite the current Covid-19 pandemic. "We are confident that we can hold the sale and comply with all Covid-Safe practices to ensure the health and well-being of everyone present," Andrew said. "This year's sale will be a challenge, but the auction is an essential agricultural service and as such, all returning and new clients are able to attend." If the restrictions due to Covid become difficult Wunnamurra are ready to hold the auction online with AuctionsPlus if necessary. "I'm positive that, with some flexibility and collaboration, our valued clients will get the rams they want, knowing their joining requirements are covered for 2021," Andrew said. Wunnamurra Poll Dorset Stud was started in 1987 with the initial purpose of breeding rams for their own operations, which has now grown to provide high quality genetics to a wide variety of clients. The stud runs 450 ewes and uses artificial insemination and genomic DNA testing to access the best genetics possible. ''Like everything else we produce on Wunnamurra, we wanted to be able to measure our production,'' Mr Gillett said. ''So, we joined Lambplan, which has given us the tools to record and measure growth, eye muscle and fat on our stud lambs at 100 days and at 200 days of age, as well as important pedigree information". ''We've been using Lambplan for more than 20 years - it is the best way for clients to assess the potential performance of the progeny from the rams they purchase from Wunnamurra. This enables them to make the best decisions for the production and profitability of their enterprise". Mr Gillett said that over half of Wunnamurra's rams on offer at this year's sale are in the top 20 per cent of Lambplan data. ''We're consistently achieving high growth, well above the industry average, whilst also maintaining low birth weight,'' he said. "This is key to driving profits." The stud was boosted recently with the news one of their sires, Wunnamurra 120455, is the second highest ranked Poll Dorset for Eating Quality index in Lambplan. "We believe this ram is going to be a key sire as we look to improve eating quality traits over the coming years, so our clients can achieve a premium for their lambs in the future as these market opportunities develop," Andrew said. Wunnamurra rams are known for their length, depth of body, clean faces and as usual the sale rams will present in excellent condition. The sale is being held in conjunction with Elders Jerilderie and Landmark Mills. Wunnamurra is located 10 kilometres south of Jerilderie. For more information contact Andrew Gillett on 0429 660 584, www.wunnamurra.com.au or Wunnamurra Poll Dorset on Facebook.

07.01.2022 Today marks a rather interesting time in the history of Wunnamurra. 141 years ago today, Monday 10th Feb 1879, Ned Kelly and his gang passed through the property after the raid on Jerilderie. The Kelly gang visited Jerilderie in order to rob the Bank of NSW and more importantly to Ned, to get his personal account of his life published at the printing press in the town, thereafter known as the 56 page Jerilderie Letter. The gang ended up with 2141 and a promise that the lette...r would be published, however it wasn’t published for many years after Ned’s death. Anyhow, as the Gang rode out of town, they visited Wunnamurra station in a bit of a panic and accosted the station manager A. Mackie, the brother of the bank assistant who the gang suspected of giving horses to the bank managers Living and Tarleton who subsequently rode off to Deniliquin to raise the alarm. Ned declared he would shoot Mackies brother and burn down the homestead in retribution. They continued on to the homestead and after talking to the store manager, Ned realised he was wrong and that Mackie hadn’t got the horses from Wunnamurra. Ned then spoke to the station people for a bit, asked for a glass of water and continued south through the property on their way home. Sorry for the history lesson, but it’s such a brilliant part of the past history of the property!! http://kellygang.asn.au/wi/The_Argus_at_KellyGang_18/2/1879
