19.01.2022 To the Central Queensland Community, Many of you may be familiar with a digital billboard that is located on our premises. We would like to make it very clear ...that we do not own this sign, nor are we able to control or influence any of the content that displays on it. The controversial and offensive sign that was part of the sign’s rotation does not in any way represent the values of our business or staff. We truly wish that this was not something that the community had been exposed to, and we are deeply apologetic for the offence that this caused. Please know that we have contacted the owners, and the image has been removed. Tropical Auto Group is committed to equality and inclusion for all, and we stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement. Our deepest apologies, Tropical Auto Group

16.01.2022 Here in Australia, it is NAIDOC Week. What is that you ask? NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islande...r people. NAIDOC Week is celebrated by all Australians and is a great opportunity to learn more about First Nations communities. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. This is what we usually do when travelling around the world. Since 2020 has not turned out the way we thought it would, we decided to travel around Australia and learn about our own history and culture. One of the amazing Aboriginal experiences we have had was in Rockhampton. We went on 2 tours here. One tour to the Culture Centre that taught us about the history of the tribes in the area and about the Torres Strait Islands. Another tour with a local Elder who taught us about bushtucker, the land and Dreamtime stories. Both were so fascinating and we learnt so much. The indigineous people we have met have been incredible and so inviting to speak to us so we can learn about their history. Australian history with our First Nations people is very sad and heartbreaking. We are trying to learn and ask questions and we thank the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders people for being so open and inviting us in. It's so important to learn and respect our history.

14.01.2022 The Darumbal Charitable Trust (DCT) holds the Native Title compensation benefits in Trust for the Darumbal People. To apply for benefits through the Trust you must apply through the Socio Support Programs covered in the Socio Support Policy. The Darumbal Board put together the Socio Support Policy which provides us with guidelines for all programs and all applications that come through Darumbal seeking support. In 2019, the ILUA with Defence made it possible for DCT to not on...ly continue, but increase the level of support offered to Darumbal people through socio support. Education Support is one of the programs included in the Socio Support Policy. This year, 493 students received education support from DCT. Education Support has been part of the Darumbal Socio Support Policy for over 10 years. The Defence ILUA will keep this support available for many years to come. DCT have received more applications for Tertiary Scholarships and now DCT provide scholarships for 8 Darumbal University students to assist with their education costs. Darumbal have been overwhelmed with applications for scholarships. At this point in time, Darumbal have filled their allocation for scholarships. If you would like to be considered for a scholarship in 2021 please send your details through and it will be held until such times as there is enough funding allocated to support another scholarship. Elderly support and Funeral support have always been included on the Socio Support Policy and is still included for times when support is needed most. Some changes on the policy include;- Sporting support due to financial restrictions this was not available for the last few years. Sporting support is available for individuals that are excelling in their sport of choice, and are representing at a State/National level.- support for Tafe course fees (career-based)are now included.- Training related activities (eg tickets, registration costs) are also new to the policy. To apply for socio support through DCT you can apply online darumbal.com.au or please contact our Office. #sociopolicy #darumbaldpac #caringforstudents #lookingaftermob #darumbalnunthi

12.01.2022 Over the past several years DNRME has acted, with community support, to change or remove some offensive names. We recognise the hurt offensive place names can ...cause to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and others, and will continue to progress name change suggestions made by Traditional Owner groups or members of the public. For some, offensive names of places also represent painful but important reminders of our history. The following racially offensive names were changed or removed in Queensland in 2017: Niggers Bounce, a locality about 100km west of Charters Towers Mount Nigger, about 300km west of Cardwell Nigger Head, near the tip of Cape York Seven creeks named Nigger Creek in North and Far North Queensland. In 2018, two mountains in central Queensland were renamed to Baga (formerly Mount Jim Crow's) and Gai-I (formerly Mount Wheeler), following an application from the Darumbal people. DNRME is also following suggestions from the public about Murrays Creek in Gladstone and Blacks Place at Longreach. The traditional owners of Blackfellow Creek in Noosa Shire have been consulted and will address a name change after their current native title claim is resolved. You can have your say on the current proposal to rename Black Gin Creek to Dundula Creek online. This name change suggestion came from the Darumbal people who have Native Title in the area. https://bit.ly/2ZdQsGi
